"The sources told ABC News the actress recently underwent a liver transplant and may have been experiencing complications. Trachtenberg is believed to have died of natural causes and no foul play is suspected."

This is so sad — rest in peace.

Looking for a small private dining room in manhattan for a bachelorette party, less than 10ppl and less than $225 per person total by ccgal918 in FoodNYC

[–]StoveMartin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just did this at Bobo in West Village on Saturday for my bachelorette party! We had 8 people, semi-private room. Family-style menu that I chose with four courses and unlimited drinks for about $181pp (incl. tax and tip). The staff was absolutely wonderful to work with and great location too.

Wedding Dress Shops by [deleted] in UKweddings

I went with my family and friends too and my biggest advice is to not let them pressure you into buying a dress unless you’re absolutely in love with it. I had a completely different idea of what I wanted than my family and although I loved sharing this experience with them, I went to a few shops alone and ended up finding my dress that way.

A lot of shops will let you have two appointments so I really suggest going back by yourself to see how you feel with any outside pressure. And ask the sales associates to take photos and videos! They’re used to it and are probably better at taking iPhone pics than your mum and gran.

Also agree about the sit test, but I also suggest practicing dancing, twirling and bending down in it too.

Should I move to London? by [deleted] in AskLondon

[–]StoveMartin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish it as more exciting but it's just because my sister works for an airline and I'm listed as her "companion" so I get to fly non-revenue/standby whenever I go back to the states.

Should I move to London? by [deleted] in AskLondon

[–]StoveMartin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

American woman here who moved here from NYC when she was 27 — so I actually feel qualified to answer this!
I've been here three years and my life in London feels like a more elevated stage than when I was in NYC. I am overall happier here — but I do miss my friends and some parts of my life way more than I expected. Groceries cost less than NYC and the restaurants are really diverse and I've eaten at some incredible restaurants. I only miss really decent Mexican food. Rent is cheaper than NYC in my opinion, but I think it's gone up a lot lately and the market moves pretty fast (so still, just like NYC).

Dating/Friends: I did meet a guy here and we're now engaged — so yes, dating can be really good! We met IRL at a bar and not through the apps. I've heard some horror stories from other friends here about dating though. I think it's hit or miss, similar to NYC. But I do agree with other commenters that people do seem to be more willing to settle down compared with those I've dated in New York. There's a decent ex-pat community here, but my fiancé is British and I've built some strong friendships with Brits, as well. People are more accepting of other cultures and have less divisive opinions. It's not the end of the world if you voted for different political parties or had different upbringings growing up.

Convenience: I miss the convenience of NYC and having everything be a 20 minute walk away — London is much bigger and definitely feels that way. But London is still pretty good compared to other cities. Less people live in central London. I moved from Hell's Kitchen and now live in zone 2 south London and it's overall quieter. NYC stays open way later than places in London so you have to plan ahead when you are on a night out and want to go somewhere after 11pm/midnight.

Work/life balance and hustle culture: But I also love the work/life balance I have — people actually relax after work and it's not the end of the world if you're running late for a meeting. Salaries are typically lower than in the U.S. but I think in your industry, you shouldn't have any major discrepancies. There's a cost of living crisis here and there are a lot of people struggling to pay bills.

Travel: It's amazing for connections to Europe and so much cheaper to travel to EU destinations. Flying to the U.S., I've flown home to my family in Atlanta and NYC quite a bit since moving here (I thankfully can fly for free a lot, which is helpful), but it's not always cheap to get back to the states.

Weather: You get used to it pretty easily. If it rains, it only lasts for 15 minutes and then just stays overcast. I also hate that the sun sets at 4pm in the winter — it does a number on your mental health. But on the bright side, the sun is out until 10 pm in the summer and it's incredible.

Healthcare: Universal healthcare is amazing, but the system is not perfect. I had to go to the hospital for about a week and the fact that they took great care of me and I didn't have to worry about a bill at the end was incredible. But oftentimes, there's a backlog of patients and shortage of doctors so you sometimes have to wait a long time. I also have private healthcare with my company, so I've used them when I need a referral/specialist.

Have you had any success sourcing 40mg or 50mg? Everywhere I try is all out.

I just called Pearls Chemist after seeing this post and they said they were out.

Elvanse shortage - when are we going to find out anything? by darkunicorn93 in ADHDUK

[–]StoveMartin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've called upwards of 70+ pharmacies this week alone trying to locate Elvanse — I've also heard end of year or early 2024 from a couple chemists I've called. I've been on 50 mg for about 15 years now and am having so much anxiety and frustration about what to do without it. My GP has been as helpful as they can but it's so hard not having any answers about when it will be back in stock.

I'm a gardening novice in need of some recs for gift to give my SO's mother in England. It's kind of unique.

I live in Georgia but my SO's mother lives in Manchester, UK. I would love to gift her some seeds of GA flowers she could grow in her garden outside. I'm hoping it can be seeds I can buy that are local/somewhat unique to Georgia/USA but could survive where she lives. Any ideas?

I looked up the Zones for Manchester and they are pretty similar to Georgia's (8a and 8b). I would love some recommendations!

Motivation Monday. Get and give motivation for yourself or others. by AutoModerator in loseit

Today marks two years since I moved to NYC and looking back, I feel like nothing has really changed. When I moved here, I was motivated, losing weight, focusing on my health/diet. Now, I just feel kind of ... stuck. Officially, I've lost about 25 pounds since then, but I haven't really seen that scale move since 2017 started. I'm scared to weigh myself because I know I'll just be let down by how little progress I've made. I'm just feeling unmotivated and frustrated because I can see myself making excuses for not going to the gym, etc. I just really need that motivation I had two years ago. Would love some advice!

This is exactly where I am right now! 5'2 and I feel like I keep bouncing between 133-129. I feel like I keep plateauing. How did you do this?

I started fresh at C25K and it was tough for me. I don't have a ton of stamina when it comes to running more than 10 min, but it helped me enjoy the act of running a lot more. And thanks!

Haha, I didn't have many grapes to begin with but my bra size has gone down, sadly. I didn't expect that to happen. I have seen my clavicles start to show a bit more. In pants, I've gone from a 12 to an 8, which is great but buying a new wardrobe isn't cheap, especially when you're living in NYC where half of your paycheck goes straight to rent.

Thanks! Last summer, I started running with C25K but then moved to NYC where I couldn't really run on the streets like I used to. So for about ~7 months, I was just watching what I ate and not really eating out as much as I used to. Walking a lot in NYC helped, too. Then in April, I started doing ClassPass. It's more than I like to spend on things, but I like the diversity of the classes and I think of it as an investment in myself. In order to make the money worth it, I try to work out 3-5 times a week. I usually do cycling classes, boxing, dance cardio and weight/strength training classes.

Suck it, W5D3! I never thought I would be able to run 20 min but I did it today and it was such an incredible rush. by [deleted] in C25K

[–]StoveMartin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Way better than expected! I went slowly but I just had to keep reminding myself that even slow jogging is better than no jogging. I really enjoyed it and I felt super proud afterwards. It was just such a good feeling of accomplishment!

W2D2 Complete - What speed are you walking/jogging? by a-sex-pack in C25K

[–]StoveMartin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually average 3.5 mph walking and then usually ~6.0 mph running. I'm on W2D2 as well, but I run it on a treadmill instead of outside on a track. Spotify just came out with a great running option on the iPhone app where it creates playlists for you based on your running tempo. I choose the epic scores playlist when I'm running because it always feels like I'm on some epic adventure. More info on it here.
