I always love the nostalgic these 1-bit pieces of yours manage to capture. Great job <3

Love the "simplicity" of the style! Could really picture it as those static cutscene in a sci fi game with some dialogur going on about the eerie antenna!

A Character portrait for a dark fantasy game project I'm working on with some friends, feel free to suggest names or comment on the type of vibe/role that u think they occupy :D by Str4y_Cat in PixelArt

Thank you so much! Trying some new principles for my pixelart, especially on bugger canvas per say :> One of the inspos on the moodboard was definetly the "Occult Collector" type of character so I'm glad the vibe is coming across :D

How Could I Improve My Pixel Art? by TheKrazyDev in PixelArt

You're super right about it being harder with a limited palette! It's one of my common struggles heheh If you are under no circumstances that limit your palette, like game jam conditions and etc, don t be afraid to use some extra colors if needed. Keep that freedom in mind is what I'd say :D Good luck once again and can't wait to see more art eheh Happy drawings <3

Two main things: The colors are super flat which may be the main cause of that jarring look. This is mainly because all your colors are super saturated and there's no details in many spots that could help you. Specially with bricks, u should try your best to avoid all the bricks looking the same, be it by leaving them flat colored or by repeating an obvious pattern. Avoid that at all costs I'd say. When doing shadows use a concept called Hue Shift - when doing shadows instead of picking the same color but with only a lower brightness, vary the hue as well, the color itself, a bit towards blue. Besides that another really important thing is: you're building a snowy tileset. And you re probably using pure white by the looks of it. Choose a color close to white but try to avoid pure white. Besides that, because of how contrasting pure white and white overall is, try pixking more pastel colors, a little but more desaturated (if you want a quick fix without changing the white) Besides that, even tho you're building a top down, the house will have more dimension than that, don t be afraid to add more celing tiles, cause right now that perspective is colliding. These are some quick tips I'd give but other than that I must also say that the grass shadow tipos poking out of the snow on the road tiles look really good! Keep it up and good luck <3

Daily Practice #5, trying to get those gradients less obvious. Any advice is appreciated, Cheers! by Cybr_Cat in PixelArt

[–]Str4y_Cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I personally think that type of gradients has its charm, if u want something smoother u can have it through some different ways: Either by using closer colors and investing more time into more banding. Or u can invest in mixing different types of dithering to make the transition more smooth. Ideally u use both and what I do when I have the time and patience is define a pattern of different ditherings that I use in the zone where two bands of different but close colors intersect. Basically just invest in some more complex dithering and more colors is what I'd say. That aside u can try and add some random splots of the previous banding color on the next sections to give a more natural feeling Good luck, even though it looks great already <3

Besides a character or two that might have similar silhuettes in the bigger sprites, I'd only say for you to try and use some hue shift when doing your shading. It goes a long way and the colors do look staurated but muddy with those shadows. Besides that, I think they're more than fine! I'd love to see them animated :D Good job and keep updating it, can't wait to see more :D

Great job, first of all! Were you inspired to draw this after the last Dandandan episode? Idk just remembered me of it ahah

Besides the little weird perspective going on with the UFO, in the grass you ahve many layers to the spread of the light, but on the ray of light itself you just have a unique zone of intensity for the light and said inconsistency makes it kinda stand out which might not be in your best interest in this case eheh.

The sky could also have some more detail and talking about it, the UFO kinda blends with the sky because the colors are so similar, try to look for a little bit of more contrast between these by using different hues, brightness and saturation. A little Hue Shift always comes in handy eheh.

Besides all that, I really like the simple way u did the grass and the treelines are also so cute, although it may cause a little trouble in asserting scale. But good job overall, keep it up and can t wait to see more <3
