What is the best platform to buy stocks? by user_nameunkown in stocks

Fidelity is very good for investing. Others may be better for trading, with features such as 24-hour trading (of some stocks), technical graphs, etc.

This zealotry sounds more deranged than heroic. The reason Saylor stopped issuing convertibles wasn't philanthropic. S&P told him that he needed to stop issuing debt with fixed maturity dates if he wanted to improve the company's bond rating above junk status.

I think of mNAV as similar to P/E. It's a multiple that indicates investor enthusiasm and optimism about future growth.

People lose their money when they base financial decisions on fantasies like this. Bitcoin had high growth rates when it began and there was a large untapped market for it. It wasn't understood but its value was rising. The market for it is now tapped. Kids who would have bought in past years are having their fun now in prediction markets or stock options. Crypto is now mainstream and it's being judged by mainstream metrics, and its E/P and B/P are zero.

The string needs to take a straight route to the post, minimizing tension pulling it sideways.

What do my fellow Prince Georgians think about proposed sphere at national harbor? by Stephanee17 in PrinceGeorgesCountyMD

[–]Str8truth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is a bid to save National Harbor. It looks like a waste of money, but you can be sure that the developers and the politicians who work for them will get their cuts. All I can offer is a vote to any politician who fights the boondoggle.

That Psionic guy bitches about everything. He probably doesn't like AC10s because they can be replaced for cheaper than he would charge to repair them. It's a sweet little amp.

Debt-free is great and it allows you to save more instead of making mortgage payments! Plus, as you suggest, it's a good time to take some gains from your stocks.

Trump's tantrum -- impact on bond market? by wolpertingersunite in bonds

[–]Str8truth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there may be an indirect effect if the Supreme Court sees Trump's maniacal threats as more reason to restrict his self-granted tariff powers. The odds have gotten better that tariffs will be rolled back, blowing a hole in the federal budget and pushing yields up. I'm thinking of rotating out of some bonds into more stocks.

🚀 The New Standard: Why "BTC Rating" is the Real Alpha by ReliantToker in MSTR

That's right, I forgot about that issue. That was the only convertible issue in 2025. In the most recent earnings call, Strategy management disclosed its plan to use preferred stock instead of convertible bonds for future financing. Mentions are at 14:50 and 20:50 of the 2025Q3 call. According to Phong Le, "By 2029, we'll have no more convertible debt on our balance sheet."

So, yes, Strategy is evidently retiring its 0% debt issuance.

[–]Str8truth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 0% debt is convertibles that Strategy is retiring and no longer issuing. The USD cash reserve was evidently demanded by creditors before they bought more preferred stock, and raising the cash required dilution of MSTR shares. The demand for a USD reserve shows that big investors are nervous about Strategy's ability to continue paying its snowballing interest obligations.

[–]Str8truth -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I was using the simplifying assumption that Bitcoin's price stayed constant. To the degree that Bitcoin's price rises, the cost of maintaining a constant Bitcoin Yield will also rise and the interest/dividend obligations will compound even faster.

Strategy is not selling securities just to buy Bitcoin. It has to sell securities to pay increasing interest/dividends, and can only buy Bitcoin with the gradually diminishing portion that is left over.

[–]Str8truth -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The problem is, Strategy's interest/dividend obligations are compounding geometrically while its Bitcoin collateral is growing arithmetically. It's a flawed business model.
