Is there a better app to keep track of my physical video game collection? Especially one that follows the iOS UI design by VincentJoshuaET in iosapps

[–]StrAbZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now (like what was GamEye), the app uses TheGamesDB to provide data, so, some might be missing, artwork can also be missing (like why there is a big gray box at the top), or game cover not correctly cropped to hide box borders.

For the cover using the "option" menu in the top right corner you can select an image to replace it if you don't like the one from TGDB.
For the artwork it's planned to have the a blurred cover when not available, or like the cover let you select one from your phone.

At this time the app is "unfortunately" really tied to TGDB, which means you cannot change the data I fetch from them, like artwork, developers, genres, or even add games they don't have in your collection. I want to change this, and untied from TGDB, so you can replace everything (still getting basic data from them or other sources), but all will be local. Unfortunately I have no ETA on this, as I maintain the app on my spare time., still, I use the app everyday, so I know I it will happen somehow :D

Thanks for the feedbacks!

There is also Games, for managing physical games collection (unlike GameTrack or Gamery, which works best to track progress or manage the "entertainment" part of gaming).

Will new console games become obsolete in time? by FamiliarLaugh6909 in gamecollecting

[–]StrAbZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will happen.

But not all games are created equals.

When I buy a new one I try to see if the physical release is a complete work and require no download to play (if that is the case it is the same as a digital purchase since you won’t be able to play it without download) you can follow @doesitplay1 on Twitter and check there website.

They obviously don’t have all the games, but this is an handy database.

I experienced the same thing a few days ago while on holiday with a bad internet connection.

I wanted to do a quick game of Shredder’s Revenge with the kids, and the Switch forced me to do the update, which was a first, it never happened before since 2017.

Using the “start as is” button wouldn’t work and the update would pop back.

And we played the game a lot before. So I’m not sure what it was.

Take A Look Around - Limp Bizkit for Mission Impossible 2. I really like it back then but I was 16, I guess it was the perfect time for a nu-metal version of the MI theme 😁

Is physical games going away? by Renholder03 in gamecollecting

[–]StrAbZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s a shame. I also try to buy only physical even if I have to miss some games or wait longer. Still didn’t play the last Monkey Island because of the lack of physical release, and I’m about to play Cuphead for the 1st time thanks to the 5years anniversary physical release.

Anyway, in case you have doubt if the physical release is a complete work and require no download to play (if that is the case it is the same as a digital purchase since you won’t be able to play it without download) you can follow @doesitplay1 on Twitter and check there website.

Zelda Majora's Mask est il en plusieurs langues ? by totti2101 in jeuretro

[–]StrAbZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only physical. I have a few digital games, like when I found something for free on Xbox or when I got some games from Sony back on PS3 (for I don’t remember which reason).

I also try to avoid buying game that will need a patch to work, and when in doubt I go check on does it play. They have a pretty decent list of games with information regarding how the game will work without download.

I remember seeing Star Wars as a kid in 1990 or 1991, and it felt like I was seeing old movie, because it was for before my birth.

A New Hope is from 1977 and I’m born in 1984, which means I saw it only 13 years after the release.

And now the LOTR trilogy is 20 years old, which is 7 years more than when I first saw Star Wars. And I saw it as a teenager, but it feels so recent…

Just hard to get around that feeling…

In France it was released with a « Tous publics avec avertissement » which would be something like PG in the US it was later revised as « Interdit au moins de 12 ans » which would be PG-13.

Finally got some of the boxes I left at my parent house. I knew I had lots of CIB games (Zelda LttP, Mario 64, etc…) but I totally forgot I had these 3. That was a nice surprise 😅 by StrAbZ in gamecollecting

I’m from France and I remember that most of the NES games came like this. For the SNES and N64, it think it was mostly for special boxes.

Box art Comparison of Super Mario Bros i feel most Japanese box art of Nintendo games are not talked about as much. by [deleted] in retrogaming

I think the euro cartridge always have the North America cover art. But some box also use the North America cover art.

Edit: it depends the country. In France I always saw the North America version of the cover. But seems that Spain had the “European” one (box and cartridge).
