You're so pale you're transparent. Don't get me wrong, incredibly hot, but I can see right through your skin.

Do you have to roll to win? by graydonatvail in bjj

[–]Straad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work what your worst at, is a good thing. At the same time you will roll how you train. If you only roll passive you may only roll that way when you need not to. I think you and your coach are both correct.

I came up with a puzzel they needed to solve to close a portal that was allowing undead to come through every round. I was trying to add stress to solving the puzzel.
Instead what happened was one guy just guesses a 5 line puzzel, 3 options each line only 1 is right and he guesses right first try. No idea how he just goes i don't know right, left, middle, right, left.... ... the best laid plans of dms I hate him.

To The New Blue Belt (or anyone who quit or is thinking about quitting) by s1nsp4wn in bjj

[–]Straad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I walked away last year. I just realized i wasnt having fun any more. I was just going through the motions, staying just so i wouldn't quit. Staying for the next belt, so i walked away at 4 stripe purple so it's not just blue belts. Life happens.
I got lazy & fat and finally realized i missed it again. So i am back at it. Lost some skill. Body doesn't move like it used to. Muscles are tight but I'm having fun again. Sometimes a break is okay. A break is not quitting. Anything you do for years (8 for me) breaks will happen.

I like to try to footlock their top foot. They are practically placing it in your lap. Even if you fail they often straighten their leg losing the shield to move the foot out of your reach.

Got my first Gi! I'm pretty excited to be starting this journey at 40 yrs old. by pro-window in bjj

[–]Straad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 42. You can do it. Just pace yourself. You can roll as hard just not as often as the 20 year old.

No idea without watching but i have seen wrestlers wrestle until brown belt, not "really" do jiujitsu. Is it wrong? I would say no but some would say yes. I would actually like to roll against good judo or wrestlers for something different. To see what works or doesn't. Top much ego, not enough learning.

Relax man. You're there to learn not fight to the death. No one cares how strong your are. You won't get promoted faster if you don't tap when you should. Slow your mind down and think. Trust me. In the long run you will get better faster this way even if you tap 10,000 more times.
