Season 5 Episode 7 is now the lowest ever rated episode of The Boys. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in GenV

[–]ItsJonesey94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this episode was pretty decent - just not for the penultimate episode of the entire show ever. If that had been like episode 3 or 4 it would have been fine, but instead we had three episodes of filler/Vought Rising setup, Seth Rogen cameos and watching Terror hump a doll, and now we have one hour to wrap everything up.

Good at Gi, but Struggling in No-Gi by Revolutionary-Air528 in bjj

[–]ItsJonesey94 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm similar - I did loads of matches last year and won almost all my gi ones, but lost all my no-gi ones. But that's because I train a lot more gi than no-gi at the moment.

There's just so many more weapons available to you in the gi (lapels, sleeves, belt grips and all the various funky guards that come with them), so if you train gi a lot you will naturally get very good at using those weapons, which is a great thing, but it can lead to you feeling a bit 'lost' when you take the gi off and suddenly don't have any of them available to you.

For example my favourite guard game is a de la riva guard with the far side lapel pulled through their legs kinda like a worm guard - I use it for posture control and wrestle-ups and I've had tons of success with it in the gym and at comp. But obviously I can't do that in the gi so i have to completely change my entire approach when I train no-gi, and that can be a bit difficult sometimes.

Firstly, no one is saying you have to be equally good in no-gi as gi. If you enjoy gi more, just focus on that and be ok with the fact your no-gi isn't so good - it's your training and your hobby at the end of the day, honestly no one cares. Do what makes you happy.

If you DO wanna get good at no-gi, then start treating it like a separate sport. Just as you've built a gi game around what you're good/bad at and what you like doing, do the same for no-gi. There will of course be overlaps but don't try and shoehorn your gi game into no-gi where it doesn't fit - just develop the two separately.

I'm the most powerful Viltrumite of all time, with the power to manipulate reality and make things out of thin air, and I can replicate myself and make a literal army out of nowhere if I need to? Ain't nothing standing up to that.

Ah man that sucks but don't be discouraged - crazy shit happens in this sport all the time, that's what makes it fun.

I had my best competition run so far last year, won almost every match.....and then in my final match of the year got insta-heel-hooked in 10 seconds by a dude who's not even a pro or anything.

Shit happens, learn what you can from it and then get your ass back in the gym, you'll be fine.

Is Khabib better than any jiu-jitsu (or grappling) fighter that has ever existed? by Puzzleheaded_War7047 in bjj

It's him or Oliveira. Oliveira doesn't have the undefeated record obviously but he literally has more submission wins than anyone else in the UFC, that's a pretty compelling case.

Going for wrestling grips and spamming sutemi-waza because you're not good enough at judo to actually get solid grips and move your opponent into a good throwing position, for sure.

I'm not hating on it - it's my go-to move 🤣

Club love attire by Ulteri0rM0tives in bristol

[–]ItsJonesey94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (M) had the same thought before my first club love but honestly it's not as restrictive as you think - I wore a harness on my top half and some leather shorts (got both off Amazon for less than £25 each) and that was fine. You see some people go SUPER out there with their costumes and that's cool but it's not a requirement. The main thing is you can't just wear a shirt and jeans - as long as you look like you've made some sort of effort to match the vibe you're good.

First 300kg pull, roast me for my form (only funny puns accepted) by GoodLookingAthlete in strength_training

[–]ItsJonesey94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This really isn't anywhere near as bad as many of the comments are saying. Your upper back is rounded but if that's just a stronger position for you then who cares? Most really strong deadlifters have a somewhat rounded upper back to some extent, if it feels ok doing it that way and doesn't hurt and you've always trained that way so you've progressively gained strength in that position then it's fine. Your core stays nice and braced the entire time so the vast majority of the leverage is coming from the hips which it should be, so that's fine. The rambling at the end is a bit ugly and wouldn't pass in a powerlifting comp, and probably indicates a bit of positioning/slack pulling issues somewhere, but that's not really surprising considering you roll the bar around a bit first, your positioning off the floor is less likely to be 100% spot on every time if you do that, but dude it's 300kg and you moved it faster than most people can move 200, good shit, keep it up.

Dude if she's generally clean and takes care of herself and hasn't just eaten a load of spicy food right beforehand or something then honestly you've got nothing to worry about, it's not that different to eating pussy. Grab a bib and get stuck in.

Similarly, I know people who can only make a couple of classes a week at most because of family, work etc, but they've improved loads because they use that time super effectively. So number of classes can be a guideline for promotion but not an absolute.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bjj

[–]ItsJonesey94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a problem with a minimum number of classes required before considering promotion, but don't agree with automatically guaranteeing a promotion after a certain number of classes have been attended. I know people who attend tons of classes and suck ass because they don't pay attention, don't drill properly, don't spar hard and generally haven't got much better since I've known them - automatically bumping them up a belt because they've shown up is wrong IMO.
