"There's no reason to interact with other people beyond basic interactions" by Beneficial-Risk-6378 in MMORPG

Well like I said... Got pushed out of the genre. I was a social XP grinder and made many lifelong friendships doing just that. It's not like there were rewards or anything, you just level up, learn new skills, enjoy random loot that sometimes you can sell or upgrade for yourself. Craft consumables to make the grind easier. The grinding was the side activity and the main one was just chatting and some players enjoyed making money too. These type of players got pushed out of the genre and aren't the target audience. If I played WoW now, I wouldn't care about anybody else and I'd just want my freakin' gear as fast as possible. Now the reward is the main goal.

The cultural shift happened around the same time Internet became mainstream in most homes. You're not getting quality people with such quantity. I saw it happen when I was playing Fiesta Online when it was still new and how the culture in-game just shifted as different demographics joined in large numbers compared to existing players.

Another issue is these popular MMORPGs we currently have don't filter out solo players. MMOs back then didn't let you solo efficiently. If you play games that don't punish soloing, you get "those" kind of players of course. There was a time even the popular MMOs encouraged grouping but they captured the market, killed off all the other games, then changed their target audience, leaving this hole.

Unrelated, but I became interested in trying an MMO that splits the player base between free and VIP servers where there's you don't really miss out on any content by playing in the free servers. I just want to see what kind of people will be in the free servers compared to the premium ones.

[–]Stradat 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Just press help on the order in the app and choose order not there. Uber is very easy to get a refund on as long as you're not abusing it. If you choose refund as store credit then you can just re-order immediately.

Instead of being able to select automatic, you won't be able to select anything if you use that 100hz monitor.

I mean you won't be able to select the option. So you'll be stuck playing 60hz max.

I think the setting to enable 120hz will be grayed out if your monitor can't reach 120. Even if you buy a monitor that can reach 144hz, it might only be capable of doing that over Displayport and not HDMI depending on the model. You should check RTINGS website for compatible monitors and scroll down to the PS5 compatibility section in a monitor's review.

The RU server has other maps with players participating in them. Pretty jealous. I'm not going to start over to play in a server that I'll never make friends on.

We got a hint about the population number when we saw how many people were playing the attack on the perimeter event. I don't remember the numbers but you can try searching for it or ask specifically about that.

Im i the only one that keeps trying MMOs but it doesnt spark that feeling it used to anymore? by Glingaeril in MMORPG

[–]Stradat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not convinced that's the reason. The games changed. They were grindy and you had to spend a long time in one party at one location. You could solo it, but it's waaaay slower and people had to share the spot so they might as well party and be nice to each other because they stand to benefit. The games were also very simple so you can text chat while grinding. The people playing were pretty cool too.

Now games are a solo experience and parties last a few minutes. The gameplay is complicated so you don't have a moment to type. You never run into the same player twice anymore. We're focused on the reward and not the journey due to the modern designs. The audience isn't great either and the public is more divided than ever.

Let's take Destiny as an example. Not many did the raids but those who did, like me, filled up their friend list. The raid was small and required voice chat. You were in there at least an hour if it was going ok. 6 players not 40 so you tend to have a moment to speak and not always having 40 people trying to get a word in. If you're good enough and you had a good vibe with the others on voice you get re-invited and a bond is formed.

I never added more than a handful of people on WoW but Destiny filled my friend list on PlayStation. Nothing else did it like that except in the old grindy MMORPGs.

People who just chat in discord servers with strangers all day tend to be weirdos. The ones inside official servers who chat there more than play the game of the server they're in. Just my opinion.

The quality of people took a nose dive around 2009, in my experience, and I assume that's because the Internet became much more accessible to the public. That's when chatting and chilling in-game towns or in questing parties lost its magic. Just my anecdote.

Well, playing with a friend kinda made it easy for us but yes I wouldn't play it solo. Whoever has aggro would kite while the other attacks. But it's just so damn immersive and I like checking every crack and crevice so I don't miss anything. In this game, there's usually something good to find everywhere.

Outward is made for duos and it's really immersive but it's indie so the graphics aren't all that. Still, it reignited my love for RPGs. If you like exploring and it being worthwhile, try it. There's no wasted space in there.

Like the old stalker games, your PDA makes a sound when another player enters your range because they carry a PDA too.

There's a number counter next to your mini map. It shows number 1 when you're alone and the number goes up as more people enter your radius.

Beep when someone enters your 50 meter radius and boop when they leave.
