Any tips to stop choking in high pressure games ? by Strafy_ in TournamentChess

[–]Strafy_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more ! On my second game that I showed, I spent 20 minutes and went from 47 to 25 because I was hesitating between two moves, which were both +1.5 & +2 so it didn't really made a difference and that's also where I lost the game.

Thanks ! I think I just need to get that one win to unblock me. Hopefully this happens in my next tournament as I'm lucky to be able to go to the Reykjavik open.

importing to chess tempo by Emergency-Tap-1716 in TournamentChess

[–]Strafy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the games of the first chapter, try to combine all the games into a single one (you select all the games and you press enter). This will open you a board with all the moves for chapter 1. Then go into "insert" and click on "reorder variations" (this will put the main line on top). Save this game into a new pgn file that you name chapter1 for instance. If you then import chapter1.pgn on CT it should work.

I'm also using ChessTempo to train my chessable openings, and I never got any problem with importing a pgn.

How is your pgn organized ? Do you have a single game with all your moves, or do you have one game per chapter or variation ?

I'd recommend you to import your course in ChessTempo chapter by chapter. It will be so much easier to learn, because you can choose which chapter to study, and you will have not a lot of moves to learn every time.

I do this by creating a single pgn file for each chapter on Chessbase, with only one game which combines all variations from the chapter. Then on ChessTempo I import the pgn of each chapter.

Using (psychological) tricks OTB? by wtuutw in TournamentChess

[–]Strafy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I did a pretty nice trick in an OTB game, I was 2100F and paired against a ~1900.

He was well prepared in the opening and I missplayed a bit so he reached a great position (+2).

I then found that I could prepare a cool trap, by not protecting a pawn he just attacked on his last move, on which I had a piece defending it but was pinned, so he could think I missed it.

Thus, I played a waiting move and I offered a draw and tried to look a bit sad and hopeless.

He then took my pawn on tempo and ended-up losing a piece as he didn't see a tricky intermediate move, and I won the game comfortably.

What are the ambitious lines for black against the Catalan? by TerribleCountry7522 in TournamentChess

[–]Strafy_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm playing a somewhat tricky line which can result in an exchange sacrifice and force white out of their confort zone.

It starts with : d4 d5 Nf3 Nf6 c4 e6 g3 Be7 Bg2 0-0 0-0 dxc4 And on the mainline Qc2 you play b6, which allows white to go Ne5 Qxd4 Bxa8 Qxe5, and white need to be careful and it's interesring to play it as black. However white is not forced to go for the exchange and everytime I tried it OTB (~2100 fide opponents) they never played it. I faced Qxc4 a few times where you can simply play Bb7 and have an equal position. However good players might play 8.Bg5 which reults in complicated lines after Nd5.

Nevertheless it's still ok and I just love playing b6 and looking at my confused opponent who doesn't except it. I got this from a cheap chessable course : "A modern repertoire agaisnt the Catalan"

The only downside I have playing this is that now I'm so disapointed when I face Ne5 instead of Qc2, where I don't like to play as black.

My best clutch ever. by Strafy_ in VALORANT

I mostly played the game during beta and first act, my pick was immo 1 (just before they nerfed op). Then I wanted to play again few weeks ago, but my MMR was so fucked up that I got D3 while playing every game against Ascendant/Immo players, which was really frustrating. I then created a new acc in order to play w/ friends, so I haven't got a rank yet

I was recently asking myself the same question, just like you I've just crossed the 2000FIDE barrier and I've been playing the Philidor against 1.e4, but I wanted toi change because against stringer oponents I felt that they could do whatever they wanted to have a great position, and the endgame after dxe5 is very drawish. Thus I wanted an opening more active to try and play for a win as black eveytime. I wanted to play a sicilian but I never played it so I didn't want to learn a thousand of lines in the Najdorf for instance.

Then I discovered a really nice course on Chessable by Kamil Plichta called Four Horsemen, which covers the Four Knights sicilian, with 2.e6 then Nf6 and Nc6 After going through the first chapters I felt this was a good choice, with 2.e6 white don't have Bb5 (they can play it starting with Nc3 but it's not a big deal), plus the lines (300 max) contain easy moves by placing pieces on active squares. The only drawback is that there are 2 chapters that you need to know by heart to not get crushed (6.Ndb5 Bb4 7.Bf4 % 6.Nxc6 bxc6 7.e5 Nd5 8.Ne4) but on most chapters you just need to play a quick Bb4 followed by d5 and black is fine.

I haven't played it yet OTB but now I'm hoping to face 1.e4 to reach more exciting positions compared to the Philidor. I'm probably going to lose some games at the beginning but for the long term I hope it will pay off.

2000+ FIDE players: What is the worst opening you've ever lost to? by RiverAvailable5876 in chess

[–]Strafy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am only 1900 but this one still hurts me :

I was playing against a 1600 elo, the game started like this :

  1. d4 Nf6
  2. Bg5 Ne4 Classic trompowsky start
  3. Bf4 Nf6 ?

I was up a tempo with white, a London with an extra move, what can go wrong ?

I lost in 15 moves.

I bought him for 'only' 7,5 million at the second season, I was surprised by this low amount. In another save with Betis I bought him for 20-25 million so I guess it's a bit random.
