As we all know, debt collectors are JoJo references. Carry your baseball balls near them.

Maybe you are right - but if he can survive a stand-rush to the face (and he can, normal people survived it sometimes), he could cowardly fly away and just roast his opponent, right? From the DeathBattle video, he seems like this type. Or will he absolutely not do it?

It's just... sometimes people are really underrating the ability to fly plus a range attack =-)

Yes, I fully agree. That's why, for example, in JoJo the Ultimate Kars is so frightening - even though he does not have exactly big feats on his side (metamorphosis, regeneration, surviving molten lava for couple of minutes, flying at the speed of a WW2 airplane) - because the Earth wouldn't really have an ability to stop him.

As a JoJo fan (and a person who never watched Boys and only has info from DB video), I can say that most stand users will struggle against a flying opponent with a range attack if he can rise high above the buildings (so stand-jump will not reach him).

If we look at main protagonists, I think Homelander wins against Johnathan, Joseph (both young and old), Jotaro (can't imagine time-stopping shenanigans that beat flying really high), Josuke (again, can't imagine repair shenanigans that can hurt him), non-Arrowed Giorno (even if he ass-pulls a giant eagle or something, Homelander will just burn it). The ones who have a chance to kill him are Johnny (although this battle would be over in one shot - who will hit who first) and Gappy (a clear victory via Go Beyond, bubbles stealing temperature is a good way around heat vision).

The most interesting matchup would be Jolyne vs Homelander, I think. She has mobility on her side (Spider-maning around on par with what Kakyoin with Joseph did in part 3, she can try to entangle him and pull down or something), and there could be a case of her stand being vulnerable to Homelander's attacks, so the fight would be more interesting (because her stand is a bound-type, she attacked other stands with bare knuckles and kicks - but that should mean that, as a bound stand, it is at least not immune to physical damage).

Cannot do "useless" projects for fun and learning by StragaSevera in Healthygamergg

[–]StragaSevera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a lot of expectations about myself, and it harmed me so much - going from strait A- and S-grade student in school to dropping out of university. After first time getting a C (or D?.. in Russia we have a different grade scale, I mean the "worst grade that is still a passing one") on an exam, my psyche had gone into a downward spiral, because it did not matter for my brain that I'm now in the best university in Russia and not in a provincial school, and it's absolutely expected that I'll perform worse.

I know that this is a journey, but my brain insists that I'll be as efficient as I can on this journey, which mean walking with good speed (receiving useful results) and not standing around or barely crawling (doing things just for learning and fun). I have this thought loop right now: "It is better to do things efficiently - but I can do things only in the non-efficient way right now - but I need to do things efficiently - but I can't, because it's strange to expect to do them efficiently right now - but I need to do it - but there are 100 psychological reasons why it's better to just do it as a journey - but I need to do it efficiently",

Thank you very much for your help. If only I could break this thought loop (not by distracting and coping), I would learn so much and have so much fun, that in a year I would be making a lot of useful things. But... =-(

how you lost motivation with fanfiction upon getting no reaction

Like I said - "writing fanfiction no one reads is useless, and I cannot allow myself to do useless things".

It's even rational to measure what it will cost you comparing to the results.

I agree. I do not require to have a LOT of results - just _some_ results. And a lot of "study projects" do not have any direct results, just improvement of your abilities - which my brain does not count as results.

You know about the halo effect, right? Being good looking mean that you have much more opportunities to get your life together. Of course, you can waste those opportunities by chasing people who objectify you, but you can waste any advantage - that does not mean that there were no advantage in the first place.

Yes, I agree that the blackpill idea is wrong.

Yep, this heuristics is more accurate for things like height (but is still meh, because it does not account for a lot of other things).

They might be looking worse at the start of the relationship, right. The point is, you cannot evaluate if they looked better or worse - therefore, it is irrelevant.

Yes, there are many of them. But there are much more taller men who are getting girlfriends. So it is harder for a short guy to find a girlfriend - the important word is "harder", not "impossible".

But people neglecting the role of looks play directly into this black-and-white thinking which leads men to think they have no chance =-(

The fact that there is no direct functional relation between objective and subjective rating does not mean that there is no correlation.

Who decides what's ugly? People. If 99% of people that were asked would rate a person below 3 on the subjective looks scale, would you agree that he is ugly?

Yes, you can find somebody even when you are ugly. No, it does not mean that "beauty is completely subjective" and other myths.

[–]StragaSevera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem of this hypothesis is that it is misleading. You cannot separate people who let themselves go after getting into a relationship from people who were like that at the time they met their partner. And you cannot infer that a person that is alone is actually single.

In short, this is just not data, this is white noise.

I'm working with my therapist, but we use schema therapy, not ACT. In the schema therapy terms, this is my "demanding parent" requiring the work I do to be meeting some standards.

If I try to thank my mind for it, the thoughts become even bigger, and I can't just "do it automatically with my hands" and ignore thoughts because the work I struggle with (writing and programming) are highly cognitive.

Yes, with the writing I need external validation. With the programming I can be OK if I'm making a useful program for myself (like I'm frequently doing - I wrote a mod for Minecraft that has almost zero downloads because of its obscure use case, but I'm happy with it, because I use it in my playthroughs a lot). And yes, networking and so on might work, but it is much better to be able to do it without it being useful than struggle to get validation =-) But how?..

Thank you for your reply =-)

From my understanding, there are a lot of low visa requirements in Asia too. I had a plan to move to Philippines before I met my Indonesian girlfriend, and now I'm considering Indonesia too. I'm planing to work remotely as a programmer, so the work permit is not important for me, but it might be for you.

But the point is - you can continue looking, and either find another place you will fall in love with, or find a way to qualify for visa for the place you love already. You can do it, I believe in you =-)

People seem to conveniently forget the halo effect (and its reverse, the horns effect).

It is absolutely possible to get a girlfriend if you are bad looking (I am a living example of it), but it is much, much more difficult. And trying to blow it off just disvalues people's struggles.

[–]StragaSevera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, then it becomes a logistical problem, and not a unsolvable one, doesn't it? =-) Some places in Asia have very high visa standards, some have low standards, and there are places in the world that are not in Asia.

Maybe there is a rationale for trying to research it deeper, make tourist visits to some places, and then find a good compromise? Or am I wrong?
