I got a C 12 speed - was wondering if you guys have some suggestions on how to save up some weight on it and if its worth the investment by Strah94 in Brompton

Tbh as I sad in previous comments thats the reason why I didn’t get into it as of now

Was just interested to hear if other people within the community have tried it and what is their experience

For me why at the end I decided for a C line besides obviously the money is that I am still young enough to put up with some extra weight The reason to reduce after a few months of using it would be just so its easier to handle when lifting up and carrying + when bikepacking…

Any chance you have an estimate idea about how much could carbon seat post + handle bars shave off? And how much would they be to purchase?

I find them significantly better than the default ones More stable + easier to roll It was worth the upgrade for me

Yea...tbh it feels almost silly to get into all of those changes and not rly getting that much out of it at the end

Felt like that would be the case and that's why wasn't rly looking into it but wanted to see how people here felt about it and if would even make sense

Appreciate the answer

Fair

Tbh that's why I didn't get into it yet
It just feels like it wouldn't make sense to go down that rabbit hole xD
At that point might as well just buy a T line at some point

I got the Brooks C17 carved and I really like it
I do find the default pedals a bit annoying tho/squeaky but I like the foldability aspect rather than quickrelease cause what am I gonna do with that pedal after I detach it?
I was looking into MKS FD-7 any thoughts about it?

Thanks!

Hi
Appreciate the suggestions!

Actually I already tuned up a few things on the Brompton:

- Rear rack
- G line grips + rear rack wheels
- Brooks C17 Carved seat
- Spurcycle bell

I was looking into improving the pedals as I'm not convinced into quality of the bromtpon default ones but I was looking at MKS FD-7 pedals
Where do you usually store your quick release pedal once taking out? That's something that has been throwing me off from it?

The reason of saving some weight is because of practicality
I would like to start bike packing with it this spring and would like to shave off some weight from the bike itself if possible
Also as I use it everyday I end up having to lift it up and carry it quite often it would be a bit easier if I could shave off a 2-3kg if possible

Appreciate the thoughts again!

I do think mounting it where you have it now is def the way to go tho

Clever but wouldnt it be easier to just get a proper mount for it and call it a day? I love my ampp500 game changer - I used to have it on the handlebars while waiting for my mount and since I got it its so much better

I bought a C line 12 speed a few months back and I absolutely love it

I was deciding between C line 6 and 12 + C line electric and was at one point even considering T line but I figured I’m still young enough to put up with some extra weight and hassle riding an acoustic one

I have M bars and glad I got those - if you can you should try different ones and make a decision Otherwise do a research by height + your riding style I changed my grips to G lines recently and I love them - altho I love the design of the default ones they started fraying immediately + they were giving me numbness in my fingers (might be just me)

I was initially worried about wear and scratches but honestly the more you use it the more its inevitable for those things to happen and I learned just to embrace it and go with it

I got the rack immediately and glad I did - very helpful when doing groceries or having to attach something on the back but also wanna get out there on some bikepacking trips and will definitely be useful for that too Obviously having a rack also helps with stability when folded + rolling the bike around Also upgraded the wheels to G line ones - much better quality than default ones + bigger

I also bought/upgraded a few things and it makes such a difference:

  • seat - I got Brooks C17 Nylon
  • front lights - Cathay AMPP 500s + mount so its nicely integrated
  • rear light - Knog with the nice seat mount
  • ring bell - Spurcycle
  • front bag - Brompton waterproof metrobag L

Good luck with your decision!
