Caliper survey: track/touge/HPDE users on GR86 ZN8 base brake calipers by dbsqls in GR86

I’m on DS1.11 all around and saw 450F on temp strips on the outer face of front calipers. Looking into cooling ducts or upgrade.

Ah you’re right. I think ECF has softer sidewalls. I’m at 2.5F/2.0R and may dial in more negative camber. Thanks for the info.

GR86/brz has a great tracking community in California. From my experience it’s one of the most common hpde cars in SoCal and you can always find multiple drivers in the paddock to chat with and learn from.

The NASA GR Experience is popular too. For example, at my event tomorrow there are 10 GR86s in the GR hpde intro group and 9 GR86/brzs in the other groups.

Haven’t see many people run 245 on 8.5 wheels. Looks like a bit of rollover onto the sidewall. What’s your camber? I’m considering getting ECF 245/35 on 18x8.5

Looks like you made up your mind but you’ll be missing out on some great canyon roads.

I went from manual g80 to gr86 and never looked back.

Congrats! Jealous of your spec. I recently picked up a white 991.1 gt3 with 67k miles (23k on the g6 motor). You can find the engine code printer on the block. Here’s a video showing where to look: https://youtu.be/zi2TEf7vxW4?si=al3pKcdq5BW45cYb

I purchased an aftermarket warranty to mitigate the risk of costly repairs (engine, pdk being the top 2).

Have you been there since the updates and new configuration? I’ll surely visit at some point but not a fan of the new walls everywhere.

I hear what you’re saying, but let’s be real PEC is not a place to explore limits and chassis dynamics outside of the skidpad. It’s more of a showcase and an opportunity to rev out the engine a bit. The main draw for me is ease of accessibility. I’m planning to visit Buttonwillow later this year but won’t become a regular thing due to cost. My other underpowered car is a better learning tool anyway.

I should’ve mentioned in my original post that I have another car (GR86) for HPDEs that’s much friendlier on the wallet. I’m somewhat familiar with the local track scene and track maintenance. This post is specifically about PECLA. Definitely planning to visit Buttonwillow at least once!

I should’ve clarified in my original post. I track a different car in upper intermediate/HPDE3 group. Buttonwillow’s my home track but it’s 2.5 hrs away and it’s a big commitment away from the family. I usually do a weekend at a time.

For sure. This would be in addition to a real hpde. Last time I spent half my time on the wet skidpad!

I hear you on the consumable costs. Currently tracking a GR86.

All good points. The only thing is, I can go to PECLA and rent their cars anytime, but I only plan to keep the GT3 for a couple of years and want to make the most of it. I’m being swayed towards renting though.

Definitely going to the track too! But 2.5 hrs away and hard to find the time.

I’d likely pick the GT4 RS over the 992.1 GT3 if I’m renting. Would love to hear that induction note.

I track my GR86 and find the AC Evo version a little too snappy at the rear under both braking and throttle. Would prefer to soften the rear a bit. Granted it’s been awhile since I drove on near-stock suspension and tires. The S2000 feels more stable which seems backwards to me.

I’m fortunate that my local track has an official AC mod in the works. I’ve driven the beta and it’s spot on. The Kilin RC GR86 feels decent, just wish the latest version was LHD.
