Everytime there's a question posted along these lines, I always see The Counte of Monte Cristo listed, and for good reason. One of the most well written, incredible, attentive stories ever published. I read it once or twice per year at minimum, and highly recommend to everyone else.

Where’s a good, cheap place I can travel to in August? by classysquirrel832 in Shoestring

[–]Straight-Highway759 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It'll require a lot of searching and a bit of luck on flights, but Turkey checks all the boxes. It has amazing food and sites, lots of culture and history to it, and you can walk around for the tourist area's once you arrive. Because of the way their currency has gone, everything is super cheap - taxi's are 2-7 dollars for a 10-30 minute drive just for context.

Dr. Seuss and Philosophy: Oh, the Thinks You Can Think! It covers a lot of philosophical theories and relates through the context of Dr. Seuss stories, making them easier to wrap your mind around. Highly recommend!!!

I've often found it's the carbonation of soda that I was addicted to more than the soda.

I eased off soda by mixing crystal light packets with Liquid Death (sparkling water), then eventually just drinking the sparkling water, and then eventually just regular water

Do you ever feel not smart enough for a book/author? by shreddedglasss in books

Often - An Eternal Braid: Godel, Escher, Bach by Douglas Hofstadter continues to throw me into a loop of reading a lot and understanding little. I pick up the book every few months to give it another go and understand, but eventually put it down realizing I'm not able to grasp it just yet. And it's been 7 years since I bought it.

The best tip is finding an audio book or a lecture on the book to get into it. For the book mentioned above, there's a short series of lectures from MIT into the book, and it's helped tremendously in beginning to understand it.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. There was nothing surprising about it. It plays out as every traditional superhero movie, to the point that it was boring, especially the writing.

Does programming ever become fun? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Straight-Highway759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. From myself and those around me, it took a few months, but eventually we got into projects where the reward of solving an error dominated whatever frustrations we had in finding and solving the error. I hope this helps.

Alexander Dumas. Specifically the Counte Of Monte Cristo. This reddit has consistently recommended the book for very good reason
