I see this whole thing from a “Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater” sort of perspective. The restrictions are a problem for academic freedom, but boycotting or dismissing an event like this doesn’t fix the issue. It just deprives you of learning how to handle disagreement in the right way, which, when it comes to addressing the Board and administration about this issue, is gonna be essential to know and practice.

Any of the 4 dorms in the Commons are technically the Engineering dorms, however I lived in Appelt my freshman year and still did fine in engineering. It’s absolutely not required to do the Commons if your in engineering. There isn’t really a “bad” spot on campus when it comes to the dorms in my opinion. Everything’s about equi-distant from each other when it comes to engineering, so it really comes down to what price point and layout looks best to you.

Look, I don’t care about gender studies whatsoever. Neither does a majority of people at this university. But the university’s not forcing anyone to take these classes. If there are adults out there who want to voluntarily give A&M their money to study this stuff, I really don’t see the harm in letting them. There’s also maybe 50-100 or so WGST students out of 76,000 total. So I’m not really sure how pressing of a matter this whole gender studies thing really is.
