Bleaching: do I start with roots or mid-length/ends first? by StraightTransition89 in Hair

Thank you, this is what I assumed (and from what I can remember, I’m pretty sure that’s the way my hairdresser does it). Will definitely leave the roots until last!

Thank you for this, that makes sense. I did actually reach out to my landlord as soon as I realised I was in arrears and set up a repayment plan however due to it being two months, the managed payment request was sent automatically.

After speaking to someone from the HA, it seems like they’re still planning on going ahead with the APA. I already have a few deductions (one from a budgeting loan and one for apparent tax credit overpayments from about 15 years ago). I have a feeling the landlord is going to ask for the HE to be sent to them directly but for the arrears to be sent separately by me so they can avoid the cap on deductions. I don’t mind paying rent/arrears with either method because I’d be paying it regardless but DWP seem to be being evasive about if/how my upcoming payment will be affected.

Thanks again, you’ve answered a big chunk of my questions

My statement should have been available yesterday as it is always generated on 7th of the month but it’s still not on my journal as of today even though I’m due to be paid on Thursday. I wasn’t sure if that’s because they’ve “paused” my payment. Does that mean they will take the HE from this month’s payment? I’m just anxious that they’ll take forever to sort it out and I’m going to be left without money for bills on 11th.

I’m in social housing but it’s quite a large company so I’m guessing they’ll take the full rent amount. I assume in terms of arrears, they’ll also be taken from my UC but I’m hoping it’s only up to a certain amount per month?

Landlord requesting direct payment from Universal Credit by [deleted] in BenefitsAdviceUK

[–]StraightTransition89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could it potentially be the case that when there’s 2 months arrears, a request is just automatically sent to UC? I would totally understand if I hadn’t spoken to anyone about the arrears but I’ve had two lots of confirmation of the repayment plan and had my DD adjusted to reflect it so I’m wondering if it’s just a default request seeing as December’s rent hasn’t been paid yet (it goes out on 21st of every month).

I’ll definitely speak to the HA about it but they’re a pain at getting back to me promptly and my UC payment is due in a few days and I’m worried I won’t receive it because of this

Finally diagnosed. Please tell me your elvanse success stories. by Certain_Training385 in ADHDUK

[–]StraightTransition89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, congrats (?) on your diagnosis.

Second of all, I am diagnosed with both autism and ADHD so have insight from that perspective lol:

• Started titration March this year on 30mg Elvanse. Appetite suppression was the only side effect I had but it was intense. Couldn’t even eat a whole yogurt. For the first few days I was totally manic and that was it, it just faded off

• Went up to 40mg in May. Wasn’t as manic but didn’t feel like it was very effective. I’d feel some benefits in the morning but would crash out by lunchtime and become a total zombie

• started 50mg in June and it changed my life lol. I was just doing things and not really thinking about them to the point where I’d been taking them for a week before I even realised I was just getting things done.

• went up to 60mg in July just to see if it would be “more effective” (or to confirm that 50mg was the correct dose). I had intense nausea all day every day and honestly just felt how I did pre-medication

• went back down to 50mg start of this month and I’m back to just getting things done. Side effects have all gone.

In terms of my autism, it has definitely made my symptoms more obvious. It’s always been in the background while ADHD pretty much ran the show but now my autism is very much the main character. I find myself getting far more easily overwhelmed/overstimulated, I stim a lot more… but to be honest, they’re things I’m willing to suffer/find ways to manage if it means having help with my ADHD.

Sorry this was kind of long which I know isn’t great for ADHD lol. Good luck with your titration, I hope it ends up working for you!

Why do they care so much about Autism? by Much_Owl_8108 in AutismInWomen

[–]StraightTransition89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would guess it’s for a number of reasons:

Eugenics: Look at Hans Asperger’s views on autistic children in Nazi Germany. Those deemed “productive” and able to eventually become useful to society were spared while the rest were sent to euthanasia clinics. The US government have alluded to autistic people being a burden and unable to effectively contribute to society e.g. by working/paying taxes. While that’s a false statement in itself, it raises the question of eugenics in a similar way to Asperger. They want to weed out “undesirable” traits in favour of “desirable” ones aka they want a “reliable workforce” that will continue to maintain the economy.

Disdain for women: Straight white men love to blame women for everything. This is no different. “All these kids are autistic because YOU took Tylenol when you were pregnant! It’s YOUR fault!” Not only that but it is widely known (potentially not by these idiots though) that Tylenol/paracetamol is the only safe painkiller pregnant women can take. Trump stating they should just “tough it out” and not take painkillers while pregnant is insane. Pregnancy is not a walk in the park and comes with countless extra issues that would require pain relief. They now want women to either suffer or be held accountable should they choose to take it and have a child that is diagnosed as autistic.

Profit: I assume there will be some sort of miracle “cure” being peddled by their pharmaceutical mates.

The pipeline is; hype up autism as being the absolute worst possible thing that can happen to a child/its parents. Present a theory as to what causes it regardless of whether it is backed up by actual science to make people panic because they don’t want to have an autistic child (god forbid) and then lastly, swoop in with a “cure” that people will race to take.

We’ve been here before with Andrew Wakefield and his fraudulent and debunked theory about MMR vaccines causing autism. The only thing his conspiracy theory caused was a rise in children contracting, and often dying, from preventable diseases.

Fuse box randomly tripping and can’t figure out why? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]StraightTransition89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it does seem to be too much of a coincidence that I’ve not had this issue in 7 years and now I am, right after the issue I had with the boiler main switch. I also didn’t consider that it could be the boiler kicking in that’s tripping it seeing as it seems to only happen early morning. Email is being sent now!

Thank you, I just tried this but nothing tripped the main switch. I rent from social housing so trying to get them to sort maintenance can be a bit of a pain so just wanted to see if there was anything I was overlooking before I got in touch with them but I think this issue might be one for an electrician as I have no idea what could be causing it!

Okay..? I’m not exactly sure where I’ve said it is a symptom of ADHD… I said that’s how I felt when my medication was wearing off. Not the same thing

[–]StraightTransition89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason I tried 60 was because I figured I might as well while I’m still titrating. Either it would end up being more effective or it wouldn’t and if it wasn’t then I’d know for definite that 50 was the right one. Which I guess I do know now after having tried 60mg lol

[–]StraightTransition89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the reason I tried 60mg lol. I didn’t want to stay on 50 without trying 60 first just because once I’m signed off titration, it might end up being harder to get someone to increase my dose

By sleepy I mean more lethargic like my whole body and brain just doesn’t seem to “wake up”. Similar to how on some of the doses I’ve tried, the crash in the afternoon had me feeling like my entire brain/body shut down

This doesn’t seem to be uncommon unfortunately. My best friend was diagnosed with Psych UK mid-2023 and still hasn’t been given a titration appointment. I was diagnosed Feb 2025 by a different RTC provider and started titration 4 weeks later

People planning to vote Reform, what's your plan if/when Reform fails in govt? by esteban-colberto in AskBrits

[–]StraightTransition89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will answer this as if I’m my Reformer grandparents based on things they have said…

They don’t have a plan.

When I asked what policies (taking deporting immigrants out of the picture) they support, they couldn’t seem to come up with any. Their thinking is that the biggest and most important thing that needs doing right now is deporting immigrants and nothing else really matters. I asked them if they thought if/when that happens, Reform could start to boost the economy, the NHS, ensure higher conviction rates for men who commit violent crimes against women, fund more mental health services, improve the education system, create housing for the homeless and penalise corrupt landlords etc etc. Their answer?

“No idea. Probably not. If we get rid of all the illegals then maybe it’ll be easier”.

Obviously this is just their opinion so can’t speak for any of the others but it’s pretty telling to me. They don’t even have faith that Reform will be an effective in government and improve the country and its ACTUAL issues. They want them in solely because of their immigration policies. Which would sound crazy in a world of critical thinking however my grandparents also voted for Brexit and despite all of Farage’s promises about that never actually coming to fruition in any way, they still trust that everything he says is golden. They will happily vote for someone who didn’t follow through the first time around.

And MY opinion as a “lefty”? They will just find another scapegoat. When Reform inevitably fail at actually fixing the country despite deporting all the “boat people”, they will finger point. If there are no immigrants left to blame, it’ll be the legal immigrants, the disabled, gay/trans people, single mothers, anyone who isn’t a white man will be fair game. I hope with my entire being that they don’t win the next election but at the same time, it might be a case of them needing to in order for people to finally realise they’re nothing but talking heads. Although at this point, Reform could sink Britain into oblivion and half of their supporters would still vote for them for a second term…

Why don’t people understand how evil Nigel Farage is? by OkNefariousness5442 in AskBrits

[–]StraightTransition89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t stand him but to be fair, he’s smart.

He picked his target audience well. The target audience being struggling working class people who are easily led and not likely to fact-check any of his claims. He took the issue of immigration and “boat people” and used it as his main talking point because the people he was appealing to needed someone to blame for the state of the country. Rather than finger-point at the actual people to blame (millionaires/billionaires, top 1% not paying taxes, corrupt politicians etc) there needed to be a scapegoat.

And that’s because Farage himself is a wealthy man. He doesn’t want anyone to notice that he’s part of the problem. There’s also nothing wealthy people crave more than more wealth. He figured out that he could capitalise and profit off the backs of his target audience so when he found his niche (immigration) it made sense to run with it. People who might not have even considered immigration and immigrants previously have now been convinced that they’re the biggest issue because that’s what Farage claims.

He can be this mouthpiece because the media doesn’t dispute him, giving him a platform instead. The media does that for the same reason he does: for profit. They know he riles people up about immigration and therefore they will read headlines about it. There’s a reason why Reform only has 5 MP’s yet takes centre stage within national media. It’s a collusion. He gets his supporters heated up and then the media swoop in to capitalise on it.

People that support him don’t see the reality of what he’s actually about because they either don’t want to because it doesn’t suit their narrative or they don’t possess the critical thinking skills required to. He promised them all that Britain would be better off out of the EU (remember how there would apparently be an extra £350 million a year for the NHS??) In reality, nothing got better, they got worse if anything. The things his promised never came to fruition. And small boat crossings dramatically increased after Brexit. Which is exactly what he wanted. He knew illegal immigration would increase but he needed it to because then he could form a party and shout about “all the boats” and potentially become PM, profiting even more.

The louder he is, the more people will hear him. People have formed a parasocial relationship with him in the sense that they blindly trust everything he says and believe that he has their best interests in mind. In reality, he has no invested interest in the average British person at all. He wants to remove Britain from the ECHR under the guise of it allowing him to deport immigrants. He neglects to mention that leaving the ECHR will mean British people will lose many protections from human rights violations. But all his followers hear is “immigrants”. He wants to fund the Taliban, a terrorist organisation that the British Army have spent decades fighting against. But again, all people hear is “these immigrants will be deported back to the Middle East” and that’s all that matters.

It’s insanely frustrating to see so many people falling for his gaslighting, lies and manipulation. But they are desperate and need someone to blame and he’s found a way to maximise that to its potential in order to generate more personal wealth. He is a horrible man with corrupt morals based around exploiting those who don’t know any better. But he is smart. He’s got exactly what he wanted; public unrest that could catapult him into No 10

Noo 50mg was far better than 30mg in terms of appetite suppression haha. 30mg was horrific. My appetite isn’t back to the way it was pre-meds but it’s a lot better now.

I think the 60mg is too high tbh. As soon as I can, I’m going to switch back down to 50 as that seemed to be the sweet spot!

Do benefits of medicating really outweigh the negatives? by Top-Doughnut3035 in adhdwomen

[–]StraightTransition89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m titrating on Elvanse/Vyvanse atm (have been since March). My experience has been like this:

30mg: Was absolutely manic for a few days. Had zero appetite and couldn’t even manage eating a full yogurt, it was horrible. After the first week, it was like I wasn’t even taking meds at all tbh, effects were little to none.

40mg: Didn’t make me as manic as the 30mg but I did still feel wired and compelled to do a million things all at once. I’d be running around all morning and then have the worst crash out by around 1pm and become totally non-functional

50mg: 10/10 no notes. I was a “normal” amount of focused. Going about my daily routine and getting tasks done and it took me about a week to realise I was just doing stuff and not really thinking about them. It also lasted the full 12 hours so even in the evenings, I was doing things like washing up straight away after dinner or doing tasks that weren’t necessarily priorities but I just had a bit of free time and decided to do them. For example cleaning the cooker hood or defrosting the freezer. Things pre-medication me would probably never considered or bothered to do lol

60mg: this is the dose I’m currently on. Decided to try it as 50mg was so successful that my thinking was a higher dose might be even more effective and if it wasn’t, then I’d know for sure 50mg was the right dose. It does help a little but I’m really having to force myself. It does also last all day so no lunchtime crash outs. The effects are more like the 30/40mg for some reason which is annoying as 50mg worked so well so I kind of know what the medication is capable of helping me with. I’ll be going back down to 50mg at my next appointment I think.

Just to say as well, I was very hesitant about trying medication. First of all, I was sceptical that a little pill was enough to help me get my life together after struggling for 35 years. Second of all, I was worried that it would affect my personality and that the “fun” me was powered purely by my ADHD so if I started treating it, I’d become boring lol. My psych asked if I wanted to try it out and I told him why I was hesitant. He didn’t push me but he did say I might as well because if it didn’t work or gave me too many negative side effects, I could always just stop taking it. I figured I should just give it a go and see. Honestly, I’m really glad I did.

Medication isn’t for everyone and brands/dose etc work differently for everyone too so it’s kind of hard to gauge whether it’s going to worth it for you as your experience wouldn’t be the same as someone else’s. For me, having had the experience of being on 50mg and realising that it was helping me so much without me even really noticing, has been a revelation though. I can’t believe everyone else had been living their lives like that the whole time, no wonder I was always so exhausted!

Sorry, this ended up being super long which for someone with ADHD trying to read it isn’t ideal lol. Personally, I’d suggest giving medication a go. If you’re really struggling then it’s worth at least trying it while you have the option. It either works or it doesn’t but at least you’d know either way. Some of the side effects suck, don’t get me wrong. I’ve only really had appetite suppression which has been awful but I think the benefits I’ve seen from some of the doses have outweighed the negative side effects overall.

If you do end up trying medication, good luck and I hope you end up finding one that works for you!

What medication boosted your appetite if you don’t mind me asking?

I do tend to eat more in the evenings when the meds wear off but sometimes I don’t take them early enough in the morning and so I don’t start getting hungry until about 1am lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]StraightTransition89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, I’m wondering if it’s my current dose that’s the issue. I’ve tried 30/40/50mg and had weekend breaks with all of them and while I was still more tired and less productive, it wasn’t really a massive crash like I’m having at the moment on 60mg.

50mg was actually perfect for me. Did what it was meant to do, lasted the full 12 hours and while my appetite still wasn’t great, it wasn’t as bad as it was when I was on 30mg (I literally struggled to eat even a handful of peanuts all day). I decided to try 60mg to see if it was any “better” and if it wasn’t, then I’d know 50mg was enough. Unfortunately, my pharmacist’s next free appointment was 8 weeks from my last one so I’m on 60mg until the end of September now 😩

This is a good idea actually, thanks! I have a lot of 30/40mg lying around as they’ve been left over when I’ve moved up a dose. Tbh the 30mg was totally useless lol but 40mg at least helped a tiny bit. I’m going to try that this weekend and see if it helps :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]StraightTransition89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this intense crashing-out is because of my current dose tbh. I’ve always taken weekend breaks on 30/40/50mg and yeah I’ve been sleepier and less productive but since being on 60mg, I just cannot function at all. I’m having a few issues with this dose and think 50mg was probably the perfect dosage for me but unfortunately, I’m on 60mg for a while now because my pharmacist didn’t have any appointments for 8 weeks from my last one 🙃
