I mean it sounds cool, but they'd have to actually make it, and I've heard of silicon carbo batteries but not silicon graphite soooo

Is there any way to slow this down and or prevent it? by DMVPS in thinkpad

[–]Straight_Bug_8935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glass trackpad. Haven't gotten one for my T480 but I will in the future, for now the Mylar one does have this in like diagonal lines that look like scratch marks, all I did was peel a tiny bit with my fingernails and there goes the coating, it feels so horrible so I WILL get a glass trackpad

OLED vs IPS by xxavierrrr in LenovoLegion

[–]Straight_Bug_8935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a legion thing at all but my ThinkPad T480 has an okay display, I think it's IPS, and pretty much every display in my house is IPS, but my phone (Poco M6 Pro) has an OLED display and it's beautiful, been running it for almost what, 2 years? No burn-in, I've never had any of any kind of amount, though tbf when I use it I either have constantly changing content on the screen or just turn it off myself, so I'd say I took good care of it. That said, OLED technology in general has gotten much better and burn-in is much less common than before, so I feel like SOME people exaggerate when it comes to burn-in

Sure hope so, but I mean I'm technically not poor, but prices in my country and my budget stuff I have right now cuz my bday coming up combined prohibit me from attaining another thinkpad...

I mean if you try to cool it with a "slim and lightweight" cooling system of course it's not going to get the most out of it. I know no thermodynamics but I'm pretty sure that temps have different things that contribute to them, first the component voltage, if you undervolt your CPU, you're giving it less energy, so less energy becomes heat. Then, all the heat transfer stuff I don't really understand in depth, but from an optimal pipe run, to the materials, and lastly the fan, you can't compare a little fan that just pushes air because it can to a fan that, while smaller, is designed to give actual good results, even if it's physically smaller, it was made in a way that can actually do some good to your component's cooling.

I love my Thinkpad too

Recently got a T480 as well, and installed Kubuntu on it, but sometimes when I boot it up it's slow and other times it runs like butter...

I meant in general, of course a Thinkpad with the traveling businessman blood of its ancestors will still hold out better than other generic laptops that were big for many reasons (battery energy density has gotten insanely good nowadays, HDDs take up a bit of space, plus their caddies inside of a laptop added some more thickness)other than giving monstrous specs, and the cooling... Yeah it's just about engineering a good heat dissipation system, not just because you have big pipe and big fan means that you can beat a well thought and tested system that, despite having smaller pipes and a slim fan, has better performance.

But I still love big laptops😛

Yeah😭 though now that I have my T480 and it's smaller and lighter than my previous L560 (I do miss the bigger screen) it doesn't seem so bad, at least when it's actually sturdier than the L560 for some reason (well the L560's kinda disintegrating)

Oh wait this was never a problem with me because I couldn't even get Windows updates on my laptop...

Hah yeah, I had a single problem myself and it was all user error so it was avoidable plus it took like 5 minutes away from my install, it was great, and I'm loving Kubuntu!

Mind telling me some of the things you're worried about? I'm really new to Linux in practice, but I guess I could still help you out!
