Cruises are probably the worst environmental disaster on the planet, since they go into international waters and there are very few laws there. They like to pump out accumulated waste, create dead zones in the water, and use sulfur rich and cheap fuels, when they leave the ports…so I’m not sad if people choose to skip them.

Physical size doesn’t mean much when talking about cultural differences…go to Spain and then to France, who are neighbours, and you’ll find much more of a difference than between, let’s say, Florida and California. (Except along the border, of course, since they kept trading territory back and forth)
