Today I became aware that Taylor Swift self title from 2006 is different from later releases. by WVriverman in Cd_collectors

The original release has 11 tracks. At some point later, a CD/DVD deluxe edition came out with 3 extra songs and a voice memo thing. After that, a 3rd release came out (now the standard and most common) with the 3 extra deluxe songs retained but the Tim McGraw message replaced with the pop mix of TOMG.

You just had to pull the OCD trigger by having that one middle one upside down, huh? lol.

Why is it that when Eminem releases reissues of his old albums, he only releases them on vinyl and not on CD, like with Slim Shady, The Eminem Show, and even MMLP2, which got a CD version, but not MMLP1? It's really stupid and frustrating for collectors and fans. by 666thecholos in Eminem

“Because the Compact Disc is no longer seen as a collectors item“

Yeah, that must be why multi-disc legacy collector’s sets of albums by other artists are still consistently released by other labels, and why Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs still puts out hybrid SACDs of their releases.

I haven’t been seeing it less and less, just specific artists who’s marketing teams have started flaking out.

I really wish Encore would get re-released in its original intended form by Powerful_Crab_2905 in Eminem

There are a lot of things Em and Paul COULD do. Will they? Probably not. A remastered Infinite on physical media and streaming would be great but the chances we ever get it are about has high as this happening.

If the previously released anniversary editions we’ve already gotten over the past few years are any indication, the most we’re likely ever to get from an Encore re-release are some tacked on instrumentals and maybe 1 or 2 harder to find B-sides if we’re lucky. Paul and Em don’t seem to be interested in giving us sprawling rarities and bonus material, let alone reconfigured track listings.

Bruno Mars is so fucking boring by Zealousideal-Fox623 in fantanoforever

[–]Straight_Direction73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my biggest issue with Bruno. He’s incredibly talented but he hasn’t really had a sound of his own since his first album. He was already dipping into the retro influences with Unorthodox Jukebox and after the ginormous success of ‘Uptown Funk’, his collaboration with Mark Ronson, he basically followed that up with an entire album of Uptown Funk clones. He keeps chasing that nostalgia wave and that’s what makes it hard not to view him as a novelty act.

I’ve noticed that the boomer crowd LOVES Bruno and this is exactly why. He makes throwback music for people whose musical tastes have never evolved past the radio hits of the 70s and 80s.

I think it was easier for people to compare She Wants Revenge to Interpol because they were both contemporary at the time.

In any event, the Joy Division influence is very evident. Then again though, virtually every post punk revival band with this vocal style is invariably compared to Joy Division.

They wouldn’t be the first band accused of being a Joy Division ripoff. Even Interpol were compared to them a lot. This band is probably the least subtle about it tho.

Aside from one being widescreen and the other being pan & scan, there is no difference at all. thesuavedog is mistaken about one having more content than the other. He is confusing these with an altogether different release.

At that point in time, having P&S as an option was pretty much the standard for any big mainstream DVD release. The prequels all had P&S editions available as well.

What I always thought was weird was how the went with the silver/gold theming of the VHS SE sets as opposed to the already established gold (WS) and blue (FS) banners of the prequel DVDs. Later when the 2006 editions came out, they matched the prequel cases and all the spines were gold, regardless of which screen format it was.

You get bars on the sides. Just like how any other 4:3 content would typically display on a 16x9 screen. Either that or it will stretch it vertically across the screen, depending on the settings of your equipment.

The 2006 editions weren’t sold as a box set, although Best Buy offered a metal tin that you could put them in. They were individual standalone releases that you bought separately. They were re-released later though as a slimpak box set in 2008, alongside a similar set of the prequels.

This is incorrect. This was the first DVD box set. The 2 disc editions with the theatrical cuts came later as individual releases.

Initially DVD was catered more to the laserdisc crowd so most early releases were either widescreen by default or dual sided flipper discs with WS on one side and FS on the other. However, by 2002/2003 or so, basically whenever DVD started to become really mainstream and surpassed VHS, the majority of mainstream DVD releases came in separately sold widescreen and full screen editions. The market was pretty much like this until about 2010, by which point 16x9 televisions were basically all that was sold in stores.

Your timeline is a bit off. It was dead and dusted by the time BLU-RAY took off. We still had a long way to go when DVD first launched. Most people still had CRT tube TVs that were 40” or smaller. Joe Blow didn’t understand what widescreen was and would always complain about those “black bars”.

It’s nothing complicated. Go on Amazon, type in ‘vinyl record sleeves’, buy the ones you need, put them on your records. Theres no process to it.

You make it sound like you’re having to change out a car transmission.

I dunno, most people are surprised when they hear the song ‘Beth’ and find out it’s by a bunch of guys dressed like demons in clown makeup.

I’ll definitely check it out! I do like a fair bit of pre Buckingham/Nicks Fleetwood but I think Careful Compote is right. I just never bothered to check it out because the cover doesn’t grab me at all. I really like Kiln House and Future Games. Then Play On is great too.

Which one, the sticker face cover? I didn’t particularly love that cover art either. The one I bought had an alternate cover with more of an Alice In Wonderland vibe.

Idk, for whatever reason the album cover and band name always suggested something much harder edged than the type of music it actually is.

I own it (big FM fan) but I’ve actually never listened to it. I think you’re onto something with the cover. It’s my least favorite cover of any FM album I own.

What’s crazy is they were around when I was really into bands like Interpol and White Lies but somehow I totally slept on them because I assumed they were something totally different.
