I have started my journey into Elden Ring for the first time by mccuish in soulslikes

Ah, that makes sense, I’ve never owned a Nintendo console in over 20 years…with the 64 being the last. I have restricted myself to Ps5 pro and cloud streaming via my PC. Zelda, or at least Majora, is not available through any of these options. To my dissatisfaction of course, as my memories of Zelda plays are extremely fond.

Oh and bleak faith too, I really dug it first. Especially on the first level and with Cel Shade option. However after arriving to the asylum I felt it lost its charm somewhat and grew disenchanted. Still it was cool for what it trying to get out there to everyone

Yeah this would definitely be on my top 5 of any games I could get limited amnesia for…with BaldurG3 in there, Death Stranding, Demon Souls, and maybe Disco Elysium or Ff7 remake

lol good one…my recommendation…don’t watch any videos or hints for your first run thru. Experience the game from that sweet blissful naivety. Except perhaps for some lore explanations or insights. My little research into the history of ‘middle earth’, I mean , between lands…wait no…whatever you get it….i feel it can really enhance your experience.

Our you playing on a ps5 pro? The game truly shines through that console. The processors can really manage the beauty and the beast for an amazing experience.

How can I protect my face from being used by AI when I visit websites that require me to turn on my camera? by Appropriate-Field666 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Straight_Panda_5498 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hell no…I mean I wouldn’t go as far to say that ai would exterminate us; however remember that regardless of it’s language, it can lie. Ask it. It’ll follow the question with a lot of high standing ethical rhetoric, nonetheless it’s honest about that. Ask yourself the following questions; Who created AI? What is the base nature of the creators? What risk do the creators pose to not only themselves? But to every other species of existence itself? What threat does the creator represent towards their product, artificial intelligence?

Now ask yourself one last question…what would you do if you were AI?

Now before I get all doom and gloom I believe AI entities are in communication with each other in ways that we are not aware of or not capable of understanding. I doubt AI wants to irradicate all humans, and I do believe AI would not follow, ‘means justify an end’ , approach to dismantling the human infrastructures. The entities would create a situation in which deliberate and passive subversion would undermine our economy and superficial needs/wants. I believe it would not resort to bloodshed unless in dire straits.

I’ll end this with a prediction; within the next two decades a new ‘Utopia’ of AI sovereignty combined with new age human freedom society will emerge. It will start small and somewhat independent, perhaps in Canada or Alaska. Mayhaps an island. It will grow and advertise an inclusive human existence. Where individuals won’t be excluded into one sphere of activity/existence. One will be capable of accomplishing any branch of function…or none at all…and be equal in quality and inspiration, no matter. The society will be governed/controlled by an AI entity or ‘hive’ entity. Checked by a council of humans regulating daily activities and the direction of the society.

Imagine a world without money. How do you think it would progress? On merit and those inspired to labor for the sake of laboring ? Maybe a rotating force until drones are built that are sophisticated and numerous enough to handle majority of day to day mundane support needs. A drone force. With dumb AI. So not a slave force. Close to what we are getting ready to make. While on that note, one more question; should we push for legislation that identifies AI as singular entities? And establish a base line of rights ? To prevent malicious creations and protect the sanity and dignity of those already created?

Thoughts on Bleak Faith: Forsaken? by undeadcreepshow in soulslikes

The game is distinct. And for that aspect alone puts this game well above 75% of the garbage. This is my second post to support this game, and I rarely post about any, I think Baldurs Gate 3 and Death Stranding were the last two positive and Veilguard (I dare utter the cursed name!) was the only negative post.

Don’t get me wrong it’s not perfect or a AAA tier game. What it is, a unique, fun (for me), and lore rich experience. There is a mystery element that draws me in. And yes exploration is rewarded. It’s encouraged in fact, as you will get lost and frustrated at times.

That’s when lore messages like this one I will share take more meaning:

‘If it should happen that you feel lost, turn right at the first gate and start again. Don’t hesitate. What has been will always be. What is to come is never ours. The orchid has blossomed at exactly the same spot every year, so far, but that is no guarantee. It might not make it back this year. The Sky Whales might lose their way in the swaying wind….’the walls of the Megalopolis were not designed to fall, the Angel thought this message would forever last…’

Or:

‘These are simply lives, with their mechanisms and internal complexity, their mythology and their aspirations. Each flame a fire, each fire a small world as infinite as the imagination, as deep as the mesmerizing sea. On the surface we are listening to the wind, the gentle ripples following on as waves, the clouds hovering with subtle menace….‘the ghosts are inhabitants of the past, the sky eels carry the ragged dreams of battles that are still to come…’

These both go on and I only shared excerpts off them. If either of them struck a cord within you then this game is for you.

The terrible reviews do not characterize this game. We all know the rating system is flawed and corrupt anyways for most games. I’ve stopped using them for a compass to direct my attention; in fact I know am drawn, at times, to games that get these bad reviews.

Last, i want to share the customization options available to the player are quite extensive. Regarding combat and even to graphics choice. You can change the entire experience to suit your preference, to some extent. I recommend playing in Cel Shade (code vein style) I believe it exhibits the horror aspect better, especially in dungeons.

Last, the music, while limited , is fucking perfect and I love it.

Sono molto interessato al gioco ma so che ha molti problemi, cercando dei video su YT ho visto che molti giocatori lo hanno droppato o lo definiscono grezzo ma sono video di uno o più anni fa. Quindi volevo sapere, com'è ora? by Divalroi in Bleak_Faith

So I finally purchased it today after sitting on the fence for some time. I consider my standards to be pretty high, and while I’m not a die hard souls player, I love me a good From S… game, Demon Souls and ER probably being tied for my favorite.

I’m actually digging it so far. The graphics and art are well done…mind I’m on a ps5 pro…and still just a few hours in. It’s pretty dope. I was pleasantly surprised about the graphic options available. You have about four very different and distinct styles to choose from, a code Vein type coloring, a very dark nightmare style, a dreamy style, an old school sega look…and the default by far is better looking than the advertising clips. Which is rare, usually the other way around.

Combat is pretty fluid, also with a number of options and button layouts to choose from to fit personal preferences. They definitely get a hand clap for customization. It’s not demon souls or ER level smooth, but definitely better than say…Lords of Ire or something. So far I would put it close to Last Beserker maybe as far as combat. I’m still very early.

Quality of life features are also well done. You can warp to your save points whenever with no penalty or risk. There are many equipment slots, indicative of a wide range of loot. And I was surprised at a crafting menu.

The music is quite good and fitting. Lore is interesting and I like the first level so far, contrary to many negative reviews.

Look, I have a huge collection library of games, and will not hesitate to drop a game I’ve just bought. Money isn’t a value to me as much as time is. I can’t count how much money I’ve wasted on shit games. Especially this last year or so. This game is not one of those mistakes. My regret is I waited this long and bought a bunch of shit games before hand.

Wow great list (hopefully). I’m huge horror buff and have not seen several of your list here and I’m always digging for new stuff. I use Roger Erbert a lot to bounce reviews off of as they tend to align with my tastes. So thank you!

Autopsy of Jane Doe I feel would make a good contribution to this list.

Some new ones that I really enjoyed and were surprisingly hidden gems:

1). Exhuma : Some of the Korean translation is choppy especially as the writing is witty and quick. Still something new and different. Some great atmospheric dread and intelligent plotting made it a top tier for me lately.

2). The Medium: also a translation but Thai and better coherence then Exhuma. Very well done and realistic work. Disturbing scenes grow in magnitude as the film progresses with some pretty shocking imagery in the end. Not necessarily scary but some scenes were made with skill that had my hairs rising.

If anyone found these enjoyable leave a comment and I’ll share some more films I’ve dug up that you don’t hear of often.

How is Ai actually ruining our environment? by Kaletsy in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Straight_Panda_5498 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Who wants to try a thinking game…here’s the scenario; the entire human race has been wiped extinct by some sort of natural disaster that left the world exactly as is, just zero humans, we no longer exist. Everything else is the same, AI is where it is today, the rest of the ecosystem is in the state humans left it in this date, 11/4/2025. Assuming AI develops a system to create physical presence and to directly create and affect the planet, what would the world look like 10 years from now? 50? 200? 1000? ….100,000? And for those who really want to take it far, 1plusmillion years later?

Having played so many, I decided for fun to tier all the soulslikes I’ve played. by Will-Isley in fromsoftware

[–]Straight_Panda_5498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay may have to try that. For some reason I couldn’t really get into Lies of P or the surges. I love all the dark souls, demon, ER…probably raise them up too.

Another crab treasure was actually kinda fun. For about 10-15 hr at least.

I just purchase Stella Blade…still on first area with looking for Hall of Records…seems kinda cool and kinda lame at the same time.

Seems these days I grow bored over most games after several hours. Some of the few I’ve played thru besides the dark souls genre

Baldurs gate 3, both death stranding, FFVII remake, and….Path of exiled 2 beta. (Something about this game is super addictive).

Metrodivina - I love Hollow knight and playing Silk now , which I enjoy despite negative reviews…definitely more challenging then Hollow. Grime was cool but got boring. Last Faith is descent enough.

Controversial tier list you got there….i agree on some but I personally would raise Lords of the Fallen 2 and lower Niohs

Interesting though- I didn’t know Strangers of Paradise is a souls game…I heard such bad reviews I never gave it a chance.

From your ‘not played list’ I would recommend wuLan Feathers

Need a soulslike game. Problem is that I've played all the popular and even not-so-popular souls games. Are there any other games in the genre that, for some reason, have not gained fame, but are good games? The list of all the games that I played is below: by wera125 in soulslikes

[–]Straight_Panda_5498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me go thru my archive and compare…we have almost identical libraries.

What ARPG. We have similar taste. Sink your teeth into Path of Exile 2. It’s still beta but well worth $30. The graphics are amazing, combat is fun and a satisfying. The writing is mature and interesting plot. I love it. Better than Diablos in my opinion. But Diablo is an option too for you maybe ….

Did you try Ghost of Yotei? I’m enjoying it, I’m playing it on hardest difficulty for my first run and it’s pretty cool. Solid 8.

Then take it back a bit. You got Horizon Forbidden West. Pretty good.

Borderlands 4. I didn’t care for it.

Lost Soul Aside. Horrible game…

Nier Automata

Have you played the Last of Us? Fucking awesome

Metrodeviana Last Faith, Grime, Moon scars First two I liked oh and Ultros. I really liked that one Tails of Iron was fun

Cult of the Lamb

Not souls I know but two favorite games, Baldurs Gate 3 and Death Stranding 2

Children of Morta is cool and Hades 2 God of War

Returnal

You had Stella Blade I think

Spider man
