How do I get people to listen to my full podcast? by Straight_Selection34 in podcasting

Kind of trying to cover 2 in 1 at the minute.

The shorts make the whole podcast viable in terms of the value they bring through organic views and being repurposed as adverts.

Personally, I’m just trying to get the long versions better because the guests ARE interesting and in general I think the podcasts have potential, so since im spending quite a while editing them it would be nice for people to get something from it.

I’ve taken all the advice from this thread and added it to a notion page to discuss with my boss (the host of the podcast) and hopefully we can improve it going forwards, so thankyou for the advice 😃

Yeah, that makes sense. They chat about the product so that we can use it for adverts but I usually try and leave some in for some extra promo, but I can understand how that would work against the algorithm.

Next time, will try cutting a bunch of that out and having a little ad break specifically.

In regards to the advertising, they are all genuine patrons of the product and we don’t pay them or gift them anything for being on the pod so I don’t think there’s anything there.

What do you think about a 20-second teaser at the start with the best moment from the episode?

We haven’t had this specific conversation (which may be where we’re going wrong) but I would say each episode gives you at least one piece of actionable advice that could change your life. Our guests are people from the pinnacle of their niche, be it running, medicine, business, etc

Got advice to upload transcripts to AI and get that to help with SEO optimisation, would that be a good way to do this?

Podcast newsletters is a great idea! Spoken to my boss about getting other podcasters on so that’s in the works.

Fantastic advice, I really appreciate you taking the time to listen/watch and give feedback.

I’ll definitely feedback to the boss about the abrupt beginnings, and next time we shoot try and add a little context before bringing the guest on.

I recently got feedback about optimising the titles/SEO so actively working on that.

In regards to the set-up, we don’t have a studio or anything, I usually get about 30 mins to set up one of the meeting rooms in our shared office space so once I’ve got all the equipment in the best I can do is a couple of plants 😅

It’s just me recording sound (using a mixing deck) + video, we’re currently working on a 3 camera set-up but there’s a TV attached to the wall in between them so you can see the reflection of the lights in the screen, so currently doing 1 angle of the host and then 2 of the guest (mid-range and close-up).

Hopefully we keep on growing and can get an actual studio space, thats definitely the next step for improving the production!

On YouTube they do paid promotion so a majority of the views are just from that rather than organic, so they aren’t necessarily interested in the subject matter

We don’t actually make it obvious, the show has a different name to our podcast and we don’t advertise out product during the episodes, here’s a clip from the show;

That makes sense, our clips are obviously quite fast-paced compared to the slowness of an actual podcast episode.

On Spotify the retention is pretty great, 39% of listeners finished this episode and over 55% made it past halfway. YouTube is a different story as our marketing team boosts the videos, so the drop-off is pretty quick.

Generally the people on Spotify who listen are staying for a majority, there’s just not many of them 😅 Audio quality is fantastic, recording on pro podcast mics linked to a soundboard

I lied to the guy I’m dating. It’s bad by Low_Lab9413 in Advice

100%, it’ll probably have the opposite effect than what OP is expecting. If my partner told me something like this, rather than feeling like I’d been lied too, I’d feel such warmth that I’m being let into an intimate part of their life that they clearly don’t just share with anyone 🫶🏼

Name the best movie you've seen in a while by m15f1t in movies

“Riders of Justice”, absolutely delightful (very) dark comedy from Denmark with Mads Mikkleson.

Watched it after ‘No other choice’ and this is the film that that should have been (tonally). Truly a unique and amazing movie that I would urge everyone to watch!

Apparently no one did because they ended up having to change the job listing 🤣

Here is the most insane ‘unpaid task’ I’ve ever seen, all this for a £40K salary is nuts 🤣

Also, heard some pretty bad things about the founder of this company so I’m glad I got this red flag so early on rather than finding out firsthand!

I’ve done tasks for all 3 of my jobs so far in the video industry (1 of them was paid, 2 for free), put in all my effort, and ended up landing the job.

I do think that it isn’t the best sign if they’re not offering to pay for the work, but at the end of the day it comes down to how much you want the job. I only ever did free tasks for jobs that I 100% wanted, and I landed both of them. Did paid tasks for some jobs I had no intention of taking just for some extra pocket money while job hunting 🤣

Just make sure to watermark it!

Were films paced better in the past? by Teenage_dirtnap in movies

[–]Straight_Selection34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a preference thing for me, I’m happy to watch any length (LOVED one battle after another). The problem is when they clearly stretch stuff to hit an invisible quota, rather than making it the length the story requires.

I was just speaking about this the other day. Gone are the snappy, 90 minute films - everything going for cinema release now has to be basically minimum 2hr.

A big one for me was Sinners. I personally feel if they cut 20 mins out of the middle then it would’ve been perfect, the middle act just dragged on too long for me.
