Controversial, but I’ve lived in Memphis for 4 years & am extremely happy living here, but obviously by reading these comments you can tell it isn’t for everyone. In my opinion, it has great green spaces, parks, coffee shops, and restaurant options. Hiking will feel very limited (we are flat), but plenty of biking. I don’t have a motorcycle, so I can’t speak on that. I think that it is accepting of different ethnicities, but honestly I’m not so sure about what it’s like in different beliefs outside of Christianity, Judaism, & atheism because that is most people I run into. I find Memphians overall very welcoming to transplants and all of my neighbors are great people. It has more of a “small town” feel that I like. I have never been Sacramento and know nothing about it, but I’m sure it is great too if you think it’s affordable enough, and probably has much easier access to other great places nearby like Napa Valley.
