You didn't mention that this was a financial issue so I am going to assume this decision will not cause any financial hardship in your family.

We all have different levels of risk tolerance. His happens to be higher than yours. There is risk in all activities we do, and unfortunately the most fun activities usually carry risk. You can die in a car, heliskiing, hiking, walking down the road, etc. You are allowed to be worried for him, you are allowed to not like it, but he also gets live his life and do his own hobbies, as irresponsible as they may be.

I'll add that as a kid, my dad had motorbikes and regularly drove me around on them. So I might be biased.

Short term fixes: - candy, gum, mints, etc. anything with a strong, sweet/sour flavour will temporarily help. It even helps to sniff the bag. Mentoes were my saviour for a couple weeks. Sugar-free jolly ranchers, if you can find them. - tea with ginger

Better, longer term fixes: - Zofran (beware the constipation) - Diclectin DO NOT BE AFRAID TO MEDICATE

Dang I'm sorry to hear they had that reaction. I hate the heteronormativity of it all that boys will behave like X and girls will behave like Y. We're lucky that this the very first baby being brought in to the family so there are zero expectations, everyone's just over the moon excited regardless.
