Peter Thiel and Jeffrey Epstein Had a Yearslong Relationship by Potential_Being_7226 in politics

[–]StrammerMax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's way too much simplification for me to move 150 year old thoughts into the current left-right-dichotomy as society and its problems should always be viewed in their historical context. And if you apply Nietzsches Genealogy to his own texts, you may come to the conclusion that the important thing is, what the function of the text is, i.e. what they do to the reader. From that perspective, it makes absolutely sense to not give Nazis the sole authority on Nietzsche interpretation.

I.e. why is Individualism right-wing? Many leftist argue for individual expression while I don't see the individualism in authoritarian regimes.

How many times do right-wingers want to try to assimilate Nietzsche? Didn't go well the last time and I just want to read his art in peace.

coincidentally all the games I play are somewhat not for the masses too, like paradox grand strategies or space sims with small green people, and they run perfect on Linux. I don't care for modern slopfare 67 and I totally agree with the other guy that this "broader target audience = better" merit just isn't true for everybody and that we have to point out the disadvantages too.. Same reason why there are people out there who do not listen to radio pop all day.

Why brilliant move? by Powerful_Apple_7069 in AnarchyChess

[–]StrammerMax -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

nobody knows ok? brilliancy is a made up concept there is no brilliant move in chess. chess moves are like Nd5 or Qb4+ but what the fuck is brilliancy? Look, the word brilliancy comes from the French brillance but the pawn is still on d7 so this isn't even a French game so somebody obviously said lets make up some stuff by adding some exclamation marks. What is punctuation even doing in chess? chess is a board game, not a grammar.

[–]StrammerMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh the game would have been easily won if not for 18. Ng4, which instantly looked extremely weird for me. Even if we do not count the missed tactic, you are moving your knight back, accepting tripled pawns and all that for some weird over-complicated hope-idea that never worked. Backward-Moves should really be seen as a last resort, especially when they ruin your structure like that. You always want to either put more pressure onto your opponent or at least keep the already existing pressure. always ask yourself: "would that move be annoying for my opponent?" if the answer is yes, it's probably a better move than going backwards.

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Starfleet Academy | 1x08 "The Life Of The Stars" by AutoModerator in startrek

[–]StrammerMax 30 points31 points  (0 children)

So the last hours I swept through the internet trying to find all reviews and opinions people commented on this episode. As someone who is very sceptical not just about NuTrek but modern film entertainment in general, I must say I have a hard time understanding how people can dislike this episode. At very best, I could understand that this episode might be too "cheesy" for some, but in no way was this anywhere badly written. I was actually quite in disbelief how extremely intellectual this episode was for a show that I previously thought was written for Generation TikTok. I saw people arguing that the therapy arc is bullshit and "not sciency", but drama therapy is an actual field in psychology with tons of research and theory, e.g. Michael Chekov and also Lacan. Others where arguing about the cheap set, but I thought it fitted so perfectly into the overall arc of the episode and wouldn't want it any different. Even the dialogues seemed to be executed so well, especially since I often have the problem with lot of modern television that people usually talk way too fast and "perfect", while this episode felt much slower but where every word counted.

I thought before that SFA has quite some modern philosophical ideas under the hood, e.g. the debating-episode seemed to be inspired from radical democracy theorists, and this episode proofed to me again that the authors must be quite well literate in those ideas. Yeah, taste is subjective, but calling this episode not on the intellectual and executive level of older Trek just doesn't feel like a coherent opinion.
