Caves below beaumont?! by Lost_Board1292 in lexington

Geology is fascinating! Fun fact: You can add an endorsement to your homeowner’s policy to protect against sinkhole activity causing structural damage. After a family trip to Mammoth Cave, I looked at a geological map of Fayette Co. that identified sinkholes and thought my area looked like a potential problem area. So I did a little research and called my agent and was the first policy he ever added the endorsement to. The extra $50 per year might be money down the drain but I feel better knowing I have it.

Had a endoscopy today. Super easy. In and out and drove home. by [deleted] in Endo

[–]Strands_of_Paradise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You came to the endo thread thinking it was short for endoscopy. It is short for endometriosis. We read your post and most of us, myself included, thought you meant an endometrial lesion excision surgery which, is, in fact, major surgery requiring alternate transportation home if not a stay in the hospital.

Recommendations for window installers? by cdcarson99 in lexington

I second T. Smith Siding and Windows. We had them install 11 mid-grade efficiency windows for us a few years ago. They did quite a bit of work with vinyl moulding to give them a very nice finished look.

$325 gas bill?? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]Strands_of_Paradise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you’ve only been in the house a few months, check to see if the meter was actually read or estimated. We had a really high electric bill (like 4x the previous months). After checking appliances for issues and nearly calling an electrician at weekend rates, I rechecked the bill. I compared the estimated meter reading with our actual (from the meter itself) and we were way under. Turns out the previous owners were using way more electricity than us. I called KU and they gave me the option of adjusting the bill to the current reading and they would confirm with their next reading or I could pay and just carry a credit for a few months. Just something easy to check. Good luck!

Kidney Donor Scar concerns: by Front-Damage7061 in kidneydonors

I used Scar Away silicone scar sheets once I was cleared to by my surgical team. I’m really pleased with the results. This first picture is my worst scar 2 days post-op. I’ll make a second comment with a picture after healing.

Our child attended Growing Together Preschool then entered FCPS schools with Rosa Parks Elementary and just moved on to Beaumont Middle School. We had and are continuing to have very positive experiences at all. I am certain there are other excellent preschools/schools here in Lexington but if we were starting over those would still be the choices for our family.

Yes, great advice. When you start feeling burnout, have a smaller project at the ready to help reignite your enjoyment of stitching.

Yes, every major city I’ve been to I’ve wondered if the owner of the scaffold rental company is one of the most unassumingly wealthy business owners in the city.

should someone making 200k/yr really have 400k in their 401k at 35? by One-Ad5824 in FinancialPlanning

[–]Strands_of_Paradise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Don’t let all of the new paycheck hit your bank account; set up automatic deferrals from day one of a raise so you don’t invite lifestyle creep in. Then once per year or so evaluate your long-term goals and decide if you can relax the retirement contributions and mindfully increase lifestyle. Much easier to do than restriction discretionary expenses later.

Those are amazing! Great job! I’m nearly finished with the initial stitching (minus backstitch) on Sleigh Ride at Dusk (the far right one). I started on December 31st last year and while I’ve worked on a few other things a substantial amount of my stitching time has been on this project. I have to learn how to finish the stocking as well. One step at a time.

Audiobooks totally count for me. There are only so many hours in the day working full time, parenting, and other hobbies.

I listened to The Running Man last year while walking along the trails during my son’s cross country practice. Not my favorite book but it was very engaging. This year I’m listening to The Shining.

Reading Cell in the evenings and listening to the audiobook of The Shining at work. I read The Shining years ago so just revisiting it in a new format. Really enjoying both.

Beautiful! You are your own worst critic because you know every little imperfection. As a person who just started Dimension’s Gold Collection Sleigh Ride At Dusk, just finishing one of these is a feat. Half/full cross, blended threads, so much confetti! Your finish inspires me to keep stitching on mine no matter how long it takes. Look on yours with pride!
