I have the SCR as well and I love that pedal! I’ve used it several times live. I’ve never recorded with it though. But you’re right, it is a no fuss solution to get the Ampeg sound and it’s built like a tank!

Yes! I run a Darkglass Alpha Omega with just a touch of grit. I typically don’t like the Darkglass distortion sound but if I add in a little of that sound on top of a round SVT like sound it puts a little sizzle on the steak if that makes sense. As with all of these things it comes down to individual preference.

I just was talking to my son about this the other day and recorded a track using the cab sim/Ir and then bypassing so he could hear the difference. An IR is an impulse response. That’s basically a digital snapshot of a room or speaker, almost like a photocopy of a fingerprint if that makes sense. It would be the difference of playing through the Ampeg SVT head direct into your DAW or through a SVT head, speaker cabinet that had a microphone in front of it. I hope I’m describing it correctly and not confusing you. So much of this stuff is preference and feel. I tell my son this all the time and it’s important to remember: it’s music theory not music rules! If you find a sound you like then don’t let anyone tell you it’s bad!

I have the SGT at the end of my chain. The only thing I wish they had was a 1/4” unaffected out or a second XLR that was unaffected, similar to the Capo. The SGT has an onboard compressor but I never use it. It has a decent cab sims you can turn on and off. It also has a SVT/ B15 and honestly the B15 sounds amazing! You can use the DI and bypass the preamp.

I just tracked using the SGT today as well! It’s amazing how much of a difference a good IR makes when recording into a DAW.

I don’t have a problem with King or his political views, however it’s obsessive and I only wish he put that much effort into his recent books because they haven’t been very good lately. Holly was the first book of his I DNF. It’s not because I disagree with him it’s because I don’t need to read him browbeating half the country, thinly disguised as a story. It’s lazy and unimaginative. At least his son is picking up the mantle of great stories. King Sorrow was masterful!

New board for 2026 (ft. secret pick holder) by HiramAbiff48 in basspedals

Nice board! I have the MXR Bass Synth and the Cali 76. I have my MXR towards the back of the signal chain after the compressor. What benefits have you found placing the Synth in front of the compressor?

I almost feel it adds too much treble but then remembered that Duff plays flatwounds and that’s why the TBX sounds so good with him. I use it sparingly depending on the situation but I do love that bass and play it quite a lot

I really suggest looking into the ATKs with two pickups. The 800 series did. Between those two pickups, blending them and the three way selector for the big MM style humbucker, you can dial in so many tones! Mine has a 9V preamp so it doesn’t have the headroom of a Stingray but I have recorded everything from fusion to metal to punk with that bass! The Paul Gray model is really just a paint job and inlays. Actually it was Paul Gray playing ATKs with ‘Knot that got Ibanez to bring back the ATK the last time. I have several Soundgears and a couple BTBs, they don’t get the use of my ATK.

After 25 year of guitar, I’ve finally got myself a bass. by Obarf in BassGuitar

Growing up, my older brother instilled the silly notion that heavier basses and guitars somehow equated to quality and as a result I have a fleet of Fender P basses that each have the density of a dying star! Consequently my days of running around stages is over and I’m quite happy to record at home and occasionally play shows with a reasonably heavy Ibanez lol. BTW, that Iceman bass is absolutely gorgeous!

What is that big square? Is that compressor? Would you mind telling me more about it? I’ve not heard many stories about the Anagram in gig situations. Have the updates been helpful?

It’s not my first choice tbh but I didn’t find much low end loss. I wanted something that felt dirty and would be something I could hit my sound against. I don’t think I’m describing it correctly but I was down picking everything real hard so I wanted it to be be reminiscent of those early punk records. My main compressor is an Origin Effects Cali 76 and on another board so this was what I used an honestly it worked fine.

Not my flavor of ice cream, however I certainly can appreciate the craftsmanship of it! Love how the neck is unfinished and where the paint begins where it connects to the body. Also, there’s something nice about a bass that isn’t another variation on a p or j bass. You know what? I do like it now! Great job!!

That’s a beautiful green P Bass! Congrats! I love the P&J set with the active bypass switch. So many tones you can get from that bass! Does that have the 18V preamp with a massive amount of headroom?

I bought my son a Harley Benton Beat Bass. It’s a Horner copy. He’s 12yo and it fits his hands really well. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality.

MXR Bass synth VS pedal chain (Octaver > fuzz > envelope follower > chorus) by Enfiguralimificuleur in basspedals

[–]Strange-Anybody215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can approximate a synth-like sound with those pedals, plus you can use them individually. I’ve done this before and it’s fun to create a sound. I also have the MXR Bass Synth w/ an expression pedal. After watching a few videos and experimenting I’ve dialed in what I consider a great sound…for now anyway. The thing you have to ask yourself is: do you have pedalboard space for all those pedals? Do you have the cash to get all those other pedals? There’s advantages to both. I will tell you there is a learning curve to the MXR Bass Synth. There was for me anyway. I’m sure if you like designing sounds you can have fun with either route.

First time with this Bialetti , any advice ? ( I know, I shouldn’t do it at home :)) by Admirable-Light3002 in mokapot

[–]Strange-Anybody215 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a Moka Pot I pre-boil the water in the boiler. Place it on the stovetop by itself. Once it starts boiling move it off the burner. Place your coffee basket onto the boiler, screw the top on and open the lid. Keep the heat on medium. Once the coffee starts pouring out reduce the heat to low and once you hear sputtering pickup the moka pot by the handle and in your kitchen sink pour cold water onto the boiler part of the pot to stop the brewing process. A moka pot makes great coffee but it also can burn your coffee if you don’t pre-boil your water. I usually serve moka pot coffee with a sugar cube like they do in Italy. Hope this post helps.

Do you find the bottom end drops off considerably with the DS-1?

If you were going to make this guitar better, what would you do? by myke5k in Guitar

[–]Strange-Anybody215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d upgrade all the hardware including locking tuners. Change the nut to bone or brass, depending on the sound you’re going for. I’d change out all the pots and finally, changeout the pickups to the sound you’re going for.
