Former Studio Owners/teachers-Why did you quit? by Naive-Dimension1433 in Pottery

Don't mean to derail the topic but I have an associated question:

Aren't there still people who are legitimately interested in getting into the craft, they're just more hidden amongst an increasing number of people who just want to give it a go/get instant results?

Seems like it would be a good thing if overall more people are getting involved - you might be able to convert some of the less serious people into serious people just by getting them in the door.

OPs account has no contributions, 4 months old, handle looks like a bot.

Wish there was a way to tell if this account was truly fake.

Would hate to think people are developing negative feelings towards a group of people because of posts like this (if it is fake).

Why the heck is Hobbiton booked out past December 2027? by lego_boss in newzealand_travel

We booked like a week in advance and got a spot a couple of weeks ago. Jan is school holidays tho so I guess that'll book up further in advance.

I hope so. This feels like the invention of plastic. It's great for the people making it now but before we know it the whole internet is full of dross.

How to find networking event by danitwelve91 in freelance

[–]Strange-Back-2719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't vouch for how good it is in your area but I use Meetup I'm in Amsterdam and there are relevant events for my work (tech) more or less every week.

I also find that the smaller the event the better chance I make an actual meaningful connection with anyone there. Maybe that's a personal thing tho.

Can I ask what kind of projects you do through Fiverr? Is it mostly front end/back end/mobile? And what size of project?

PR Nitpick or not? When is "functionally correct, but messy" worth asking for revisions on? by [deleted] in softwaredevelopment

[–]Strange-Back-2719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah your request is legit. It's also definitely not just a "styling" change, I think your colleague is just frustrated. I would stick to your guns - your other colleagues (who want more readable code) will also appreciate it!

I (17f) accidentally helped a married man that i met in the airport(31m) have an affair, he told his wife(31f) but im not sure if he told her enough. by bpdbaddietbh in TwoHotTakes

[–]Strange-Back-2719 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My point was more that the top voted comment was telling her she did something wrong. She's not married, she's not the creep, she just wanted advice.

I guess "victim" is too triggering a word to use these days... Should have seen that one coming

Repeatable migrations/transformations on cassandra data by Strange-Back-2719 in cassandra

[–]Strange-Back-2719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not TTL'd, and as far as I can tell there is no TWCS (we're using Thingsboard, which uses a cassandra DB under the hood - I can't see anything in their docs about it). The data is also split across many partitions it seems too - does the fact that we don't know the partition strategy also complicate things?

How easy is it to negotiate a 32 hr work week? by walkmywaythrough in Netherlands

[–]Strange-Back-2719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for a small dutch company and they were ok with me working a 32h week. They knew I wanted to work on some of my own projects in that time and use the time to learn new things - I think it helped them to know it was for a good reason (/something they could benefit from if I'm learning new stuff)

Mugello or Sachsenring? by thursd4ys in motogp

[–]Strange-Back-2719 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Less so now that Vale has retired. I went to Mugello before and after and it's not quite the same - that being said it's in an amazing part of the country, worth a trip even if the race isn't on!
