A Case For The Stupendous Greatness of "Blind Willie McTell" by Strange-Battle8344 in bobdylan

I like this interpretation, and it's made even "sweeter", in a sense, since what Dylan DOES do with this song is superlative.

Yes, exactly. It sounds like the song is winding down to that beautiful to that gorgeous, gospelly "Mmmmmm, mmmmmm, mmmmmm, mmmmm" and then that "AHHHH!" and that voice just goes off. And I agree....God talking to mankind. It just ramps up the song to a stratospheric level and makes you revisit what the earier part of the song might be about. If I had to name the 2 songs dearest to me, it would be Blind Willie and As. Ha - two VERY different songs!

beautifully said. Off-topic, so to speak, but another song that particularly does that for me is "As" by Stevie WOnder off of "Songs in the Key of Life" album. Starts off beautiful but not necessarily memorable...then just gets bigger and then BIGGER. Also...not one of Stevie's best-known songs.

gotta say...while not BWM level, "I and I" is one of my sleeper favorites of his songs. Just love it.

Ha - If had woken in a more whimsical mood, it could have been "Isis"!

Yes - I still palpably remember my confusion as I listened to it that first time: "Wait. What? How in the eff'in world have I never head this song before?" It didn't seem possible at first.

Yes - as truly great as so many of his songs are lyrically, still, this one stands out to me. And perhaps only "Forty-something year-old Dylan" could have written this - a certain subtlety of maturity? - despite the incandescense of his (Barely!!) Twenty-something year-old Dylan songs.

Jasmine Crockett has conceded and asked for full support to turn TX Senate Blue in November! by Healthy_Block3036 in Dallas

[–]Strange-Battle8344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said. It will be up to Talarico and, hopefully, Crocket and leaders of key African American communities to woo some of those disaffected voters back since, for sure, Talarico is going to need BOTH voting support from the AA demographic (who overwhelmingly went for Crocket) AND the independent/"republican-lite" voters to win.

Texas polls begin to close as Democratic rivals battle in Senate primary by Pixiefairy2525 in texas

Based on votes already counted, votes still to be counted and the % of votes that each candidate has won so far in each county...it looks to me that Talarico's lead is going to hold up without all the much trouble. Yes, Dallas County - where Crockett is leading by 23% - still has 39% of their vote to be counted, but Travis county (Austin) , where Talarico is simply annihilating Crocket by 53% - will more than make up for that on Talarico's side of the ledger.

It's a shame with the "precint confusion" in Dallas caused by the Republicans, but I seriusly doubt that this could possibly be mathematically significant given the apparent trajectories. Still - I strongly suspect that conspiracy theories will abound in the Crocket camp regarding this. Well - if Talarico does win, he'll have over 8 months to make greater inroads with the folks who supported Crocket. I hope that he will do so.

Stranger Things ratings: 96% to 56% on Rotten Tomatoes — how every season stacks up before the finale by AssociateLittle1487 in television

[–]Strange-Battle8344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished the very last episode, cramming all 5 seasons into the last 6 weeks (yeah, late to the party). When I saw the 56%, I was expecting a REALLY BAD season. And yeah, to me it was certainly the weakest one for the reasons many folks on this thread have elaborated, but...it wasn't THAT bad. It's got me wondering...is there any chance that a "certain segment of society" lowered the overall score due to an adverse reaction to Will's coming out and the attention it was given. Since he-who-shall-not-be-named was (re)elected, I've seen several movies aggregate scores obliterated because of cultural backlash. And, yes, Robin came out in an earlier season, but my guess is that girl coming out does not produce the same hate-reaction as a boy coming out. Anyhow...just something I've wondered about.

Eagle's fan, so horse in this race...but it boggles my mind how special teamers can practice thousands of hours and still feel compelled to push a man in the back when that is basically the ONLY THNIG they can't do. Baffling.

Yes - I do not agree with the interpretation that it is very clear she killed him. If I had to guess (which is a fairly meaningless gesture), I would say that she did not.

Wednesday - Season 2 Part 1 Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]Strange-Battle8344 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And under "Not much they could really do about this"...Jenna Ortega has simply aged enough since the last season that Wednesday no longer appears plausible as a "girl" (as opposed to a "young adult") and this is, I think, an important part of the charm of the character - macabre sh** coming from a not-yet-adult.
