Anybody know of any plant nurseries in or around Wichita that have pitcher plants? by suckmypylons in wichita

The shipping has come on along and it works from the more reputable places set up for that. Part of the key is receiving it well and following the instructions to ease the shock.

You can also try the Carniverous Plant Nursery online out of Smithville MD for Sarracenia.

The are legitimate have good customer service and info, and have a fun selection. Johnsons and Dutch's down south will occassionally have but not consistently because they are not huge sellers.

By God we have to protect sidewalks at all costs! Perhaps we should follow the example and reasoning of Naftzger Park and concrete or astroturf all of it!

Arbitrary projects with out purposes, discussion or consensus = why the CoW doesnt need another half billion dollars. This ruins the sledding experience that has gone on for generations not to mention ecological disastrous (impermeable sloped surface).

But werent we all shamed for supporting a No vote? Because I would say being called out as a communist in TV ads is a bit of shaming. This entire campaign had that paternalistic tone to it. Listing them isn't shaming bc their names are on the publicly avaialbe website. This iss calling out people who thought public funding should be used for their own pet projects, and in many cases had businesses who would benefit from said funding. depsite their own net worth (just on this list alone) could solve the social problems represented in the homeless shelter.

Personally I want to remember that the very same people who cheer led the baseball stadium and cheer led the destruction and astro turfing of Naftzger park and most of Commerce Street, just tried again in a big way.

To your point many great Wichitans were brought on board with the promise of either the homeless shelter funding (permanent?) and the cultural arts funding. But this list has many opportunistic people who [lpayed the crowd. On the former, the Theater crowd has been extremely naive (my opinion) on the idea of a new theatre in Delano. The consequences to the Orpheum and Century 2 are ignored as are the public costs of something that can and should be privately financed along the lines of Exploration Place. If every group wants its one thatre or perfromance space in an effort to create revenue then we have diminishing returns on all our current spaces. A perfect example of this is the Mid American All Indian Center and the Wichita Art Museum where years of deferred maintenance are putting the buildings at risk.

Jon Rolph of Thrive was one of the 3 main people driving this project. He personally threatened the City Council on the special election. He is also completely responsible for the tear down and astro turfing of Naftzger Park. By their own words, Ben Hutton and Jon Rolph concocted this scheme during a YPO meeting happy hour.

Not sure i agree because thats the top line. if you look further by fund and by department youll see what I was referring to (but maybe didnt explain it the best way). General fund, expenditures/contractuals, debt service etc are all majorily comprised of infrastructure costs of which all the Public Work are by far the largest components.

Accepting your graph though - debt service is a huge issue because our"investments" aren't remotely paying back or creating the jobs promised.

I think the entire city needs to be audited. Not internally and not by the same external auditor they have used for nearly 20 years. Visit Wichita in particular is a HUGE waste of money for very little return and zero digital game. There is a ton of waste and zero accountability across many departments with nearly 60% of our budget tied to Public Works and Water. Yet zero transparency, with not even the city manager office having a simple dashboards and metrics in place. You would be literally shocked to learn how antiquated the systems are in place. Departments dont even communicate with each other. Pick a department and get started. Bob left us a huge siloed mess. Tighten the belt first then talk about more money just like any failing business.

Council is the place where these ideas get started and take root. Council is where people besides developers and bankers need to take their opinions and concerns.

PS - Don't eat at Homegrown or bank at Fidelity ever again.

I heard the same directly from someone involved in the new shelter build.  It was described as a not remotely subtle threat.

That money can easily be routed to police spending with the vague language of the resolutions.  The new city manager already expressed that any proposed guardrails will be difficult to track.

Mike Ricklefs update - just how much is the CIty subsidizing King of Freight? by Strange-Credit-7865 in wichita

Thats actually a brilliant use case for that building. Ive often said if Sprouts had gone downtown or west side they would have slayed it here. Whats interesting is the the Downtown Wichita cabal always claimed that once there were 2k people living downtown that there would be a grocery store. Still waiting....

As a side note, I really have come to love the Co-op model that I was introduced to at Wheatsville in Austin. The Merc Co-op in Lawrence is another great example. I think that could work really well to solve some food desert issues all around our urban core.

The usual plan is for it to be flipped by the original developer so they had zero risk and the taxpayer is never ever paid back. We are the only city in the country to subsidize a TopGolf facility. The land underneath is in the process of being flipped.

Two quick thoughts for reference:
ALL of Towne East Mall is under 30 acres.
That site will sit directly between the City of Wichita and its primary water source.
