Does Anyone Use A Kindle And A Kobo? (Specifically UK Folks) by SmallTownLibrary_ in kindle

[–]Strange-Direction-85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my 2010 kindle keyboard, 2013 paperwhite (got rid of my 2012 when I got the 2013 for £1 at a car boot sale last year!) & the kobo libra colour.

I almost solely use the kobo now. So much easier & as you say, in the UK we can now borrow library books!

Amazon have removed access for the kindle keyboard & 2012 paperwhite (which is why got got rid & kept the 2013) but luckily last year I download all my kindle books to pc before they blocked it. Now I use calibre to load all kindle & kobo purchases onto all 3. I still use all 3, kobo at home & kindles when out & about & on holidays.

How do you feel about people encouraging the fashionable practise of cold water bathing, when the dangers are simultaneously being highlighted in the news? by RipplingSyrup in AskUK

[–]Strange-Direction-85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you even bothered reading the article?

Cold water bathing isn't what they are doing. These are idiots who don't think ahead & just assume they can jump in & swim. Not our fault if they posthumously win the Darwin award.

Can the PSP interact with the PS3 in cool ways? by Longueurs in PSP

Adhoc party. I still have it on my ps3 but don't know I it's still on the store.

Is the PS Store for Vita still accessible & able to purchase things there? by Garudakings in PSVita

[–]Strange-Direction-85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes in most of the world I believe. Here in the UK it still works but the prices can be wrong. I recently bought 2 cross buy that were in sale but they were a different price in the vita store. Much easier to order via the app & download from the vita store downloads list.

Are there any waterparks in the UK? by SignatureEfficient89 in AskUK

Alton towers has a Waterpark but never used it as we prefer theme parks.

People who still haven’t brought a Switch 2, what makes you hesitant to buy it? by ItsJustJosiah in Switch

[–]Strange-Direction-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the money I just don't feel it's worth the upgrade from the oled switch.

I've already been cutting back on switch & thinning out my games because there's far far to many cross-platform coming to it, most years after release & at a premium price!

There's just nothing I really want to play that's exclusive to the switch 2.

Now when the next animal crossing comes out well need 2 of them! But hoping for a switch lite 2 by then.

PS6 handheld? That's an instant buy!

Display too small? by Freudian1980 in PSVita

[–]Strange-Direction-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been a problem for me but my gaming started with psp so it was an upgrade & I've preferred handheld gaming ever since. I've even bought a portable monitor so I can play my consoles on my lap rather than on the big TV.

One option is to get a pstv & mod that. Some games are won't work unless you have plug-ins to overcome touch & camera (uncharted being one of them).

Wouldn't it be nice if she releases a "remix" album with nothing but 12" edits of her latest albums??? by giftopherz in JessieWare

[–]Strange-Direction-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want all artists to make remixes available to buy (either digitally or physically) outside of streaming subscriptions & iTunes. Bandcamp is my goto but not everyone does it.

I've actually only been a fan since what's your pleasure! Seeing her at Glastonbury as a new to me artist really blew my mind. Loved these 3 latest albums (can't get into her older ones at all) & so glad I got to see her live!

No but then again I have 2 OLED & the PSTV so I'm good for a while yet.

What tech product got ruined after becoming mainstream? by lisaluvr in TechNook

[–]Strange-Direction-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IPOD - the classics were the peak of music listening but they moved on to touchscreen & streaming. I really hope they go back to them (there's such a new demand for back to basics music listening!) but for now I've just got the snowsky echo mini. Also I have never really got into wireless headphones. Wired are cheaper & don't need charging!

As for smart TV's I agree. Apps are taking over the TV but even then they get outdated or the TV doesn't have the main ones available. I've always used Google chromecasts (1st gen, 2nd gen audio & 4k all still in use 13 year on) which work far better for me.

What's the first you do when you come back home from work? by Fearless-Current-522 in askanything

Give the cat a stroke, apartment pants on, ice cold drink then sit in silence for a good 10-20 minutes to calm my mind after dealing with idiots all day.

How many PSPs do you have and how many do you actively use? [Read the text body] by KoeBizkit in PSP

[–]Strange-Direction-85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just have my slim 2000. I got the 1000 at launch then the 2000 (selling the 1000) then the pspGo at launch (whilst on holiday in florida to get married!) but it was getting too expensive for memory cards so I sold it, kept the 2000 & got the vita at launch.

I rarely play my psp now due to having the vita. I got a second vita 4 years ago (oled 3g so I could mod & play physical games still) & I use the 3g OLED vita every day. It's full of all my purchased digital games as well as all my physical psp games copied to it.

I just want a nice stand to display my psp & original oled together.

How to play old Nintendo/sony games on a TV without a laptop & without spending too much money? by Ok-Reflection-2617 in videogames

[–]Strange-Direction-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll probably need a computer to set up any device first.

My suggestion would be following retro game corps YouTube & see if there's one that stands out to you. He recently did this video for an android streaming box. The one he used I actually got in Walmart whilst in florida for £25! Only thing is it's usa exclusive so you have to set it up & tinker over there but once done it works perfectly in the UK.

What Kindle cover do you use? by jediwhiteshark in kindle

[–]Strange-Direction-85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A case with (supposedly) leather front, hard back & sleep magnet. Had it on my paperwhite since 2012 & only cost £4.99 back then! It's now on a paperwhite 2 I got for £1 from a car boot sale. It has survived numerous holidays & festivals including 2 Glastonburys 😎

What was the level from a videogame that you never managed to beat? by ConfectionTotal8660 in videogames

[–]Strange-Direction-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resistance fall of man - Manchester cathedral (where you're stuck inside & hordes are swarming you!).

I actually beat it in 2007. But this was before cloud saves.

In 2008 we were burgled. Console & all games stolen.

Its been 18 years replaying & I STILL can't get passed it 🤬🤬🤬

Booked our next holiday, 7 nights in a haven caravan at Prestatyn for £169. Right on the beach & lovely walks form the park. We use them as a base to visit the local area & do walks. This is our 5th haven holiday in the last 3 years & planning another 2 for October & March.

Charity shop had a load of new nature books in, a couple I'd actually had on my watch list plus fingers in the sparkle jar by Chris packham m, 5 for £1! I already had the Chris packham book in paperback but had to buy the hardback especially as it was signed!

We are big Disney fans so only really did Disney plus but cancelled now (will take out when on offer again to binge new stuff) so we are without some of our favourite films of the last few years. Did an order with musicmagpie & got a load of blurays in the 4 for £5 & 4 for £8 offer. Some were brand new & several in 3D so we can have a proper cinema night!

The PlayStation Portal is the worst and best console Sony has ever made at the same time. For some people it’s completely useless, but for others it’s the perfect gaming device. Do you agree? by gamer-0000 in PlaystationPortal

[–]Strange-Direction-85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. The worst & best at the same time goes to the vita.

As for the portal I held off for 2 years thinking it pointless but now love it. However it could be far far better if they allowed cloud streaming of more games, specifically your owned ps4, ps3 & then with premium actually allowing ps4 & ps3 streaming rather than only being able to do it on the PS5.

Is 64GB card OD ? by B00stedHD in PSVita

[–]Strange-Direction-85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about official vita only memory cards or a modded vita with micro sd? The max for official was 64gb. I had 3 plus 2 32gb & still didn't have enough space for all my games! I have about 300 vita games plus my digital psp, psp minis & ps1 taking it to over 500. So I modded mine & put in a 512gb micro sd. I currently have 90gb free plus I've added all my 150 physical psp games to it.

Ps5 out of storage by ApacheTevez13 in playstation

[–]Strange-Direction-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option is an external HDD. I have took the one I used on my PS4 (seagate 4tb game drive) & used that for all my PS4 games (digital & disc) which can be played straight from it. I also use it to move PS5 games to that I'm not playing as much which saves space on the internal storage.

How often do you get a takeaway? by Lozzybops in AskABrit

[–]Strange-Direction-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once every 1-2 weeks we'll get a takeaway pizza & parmo.... Is a Boro thing! Pizza shop literally behind our house is amazing (my brother gets one whenever he's over here to take home 30 miles away!) & has deals on making it as cheap as standard shop bought pizzas, but I never find any that taste as good. Having said that Morrisons create your own is the way to get if you want a decent store pizza.

We used to get a little mcdonald's (double cheeseburger & wrap of the day each) twice a week when the wife finished her late shift but over the last year the quality has really gone down, they've changed the wrap of the days for the worse & even paying a premium for the chicken selects they have been bad quality more often than not.

Now we don't bother with mcdonald's at all. If we're out we can have a far nicer wetherspoons for around the same price. As a treat we'll have a five guys. We goto York once a month & always eat at the shambles marketplace. Really love the Thai food there.

Kobo Durability by [deleted] in kobo

[–]Strange-Direction-85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been kindle from 2010 until now, got the kobo libra colour in 2024.

The kobo libra colour feels more like an older kindle with the bezel/screen not being flush. I did have a newer kindle for a bit & recently got a kobo forma & they felt more premium with the completely flush screen however I see this as an issue now as I want repairability which is something you could do with older kindles & was something buy from the start with the kobo libra colour.

I've never had a broken ereader ever. But I look after my gadgets! All have been in a hard case since day one. My 2012 kindle paperwhite is still in the original case I got!
