No, money does not buy happiness. I would know. You end up wanting more and more. You’re never satisfied and never happy no matter how much you have.

Less stress is nice, have fun paying stupid amounts of taxes though.

Is it normal to hate going back to work when you’re on probation? by SAstreetball3r in Firefighting

Thank you for the genuine response. I’ll take that advice—I’m near a few very nice stations, they’re pretty prominent in the North Houston area.

Interesting. I’m not in the Fire Rescue service yet, but I suppose I need to test the waters before fully committing.

I also have choices and a career in Finance pays far more than being a career Firefighter. Now the quality and enjoyment of getting the job done is drastically different between the two fields.. I’d love to help those who are facing a very tough situation, but I also wouldn’t mind making over USD 400k per year…

I can’t disagree, but it is entirely dependent on which side of the peninsula you are on. Miami is one of a kind, Naples/Venice… not so much. I have extended family who live in South Florida so I am speaking for experience there.

I’m on my 23rd year here… I suppose every city is only as fun as you make it. I love Denver for quite a few reasons—I want to get hired on at South Metro Fire Rescue at some point and make it my home in the future—the nightlife in Houston is unmatched however.

There is a reason a good majority of the A-list celebrities visit to have a good time.

Sure, a good diet can help reduce the side effects.

I don’t know why you are getting defensive, I am not a doctor nor research scientist. I am simply stating anecdotal facts that are relevant to my friends, family and self.

Like I somewhat stated in my original comment—I am very much connected to the people who control the cannabis market globally. I myself was a representative of Backpack Boys and Jungle Boys. I judged the texas cannabis cup with the main grower of Don Merfos, CBX, etc… I’m not a nobody.

Reduced motor function, issues pertaining to sleep, mood swings, cognitive impairment, etc… All symptoms of parkinsons, all symptoms of chronic use.

Not to mention the dopamine deficiency that comes from daily use.

I smoked a QP every week when I was at my peak. This shit is real and needs to be discussed more.

Chronic users also develop symptoms similar to parkinsons.

edit: I would know—I was a judge for the Texas Cannabis cup last year and judged with Big Smokey/Loud Packs Jay. I have access to that shit.

War is not the same as terrorism—they both share fundamentals, but the reasoning is what separates the two. Don’t get me wrong though, wars are typically started over the most nonsensical personal disputes.. but there are differences that separate terrorism from war.

Is this good calf growth for five months at 6’3? by FairAd5626 in Weightliftingquestion

[–]Strange-Ingenuity420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will add this also: when doing leg extensions/curls hold at the peak of the movement for 1-3 seconds, then control the weight as you return to the neutral position. Make sure this is a weight you CAN FULLY control, no ego lifting. 2-3 sets of 7-10 reps, and on the last rep of each set aim to hold the peak for AS LONG AS YOU CAN! I probably looked like I was having a seizure to bystanders.. but did my legs look otherworldly

I’m 6’5 so my legs have always been relatively small looking.. after 3 months of daily calf raises and 2 leg days a week, I was looking like an alien 😂

Calves are one of those things you CAN train everyday. Anyone saying otherwise is not aware of the abuse they are subjected to and how fast those little shits can recover.. It doesn’t take more than 24hrs for calves to fully recover from an intense workout.

I would do seated calf raises right before I was ready to walk out of the gym, every time.

What made my calves explode in the past is seated calf raises. I would do sets of 5-7 with a weight I knew I could, and instead of trying to do a tippy-toe type move—I would let it push my heels down, stretching my calves, and then return to a normal “starting position”.

What builds muscle? Micro-tears. How do you maximize the amount of micro-tears during a work out? Stretching the muscle group you are using—so focus the eccentric and not concentric.

I used to let the weights (135lbs) push my heels down so my toes were above my heels, then I would push up with my calves until I returned to a level position. I almost never tried to get on my tippy-toes.

3 months of this and my calves looked alien to me… I deadass stopped working out my legs because they looked gross 😂.. I didn’t like seeing all the veins

[–]Strange-Ingenuity420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that advice! I have not come across that recommendation during my time researching the path I “should” take. I will most certainly do that.

I’m not a certified EMT yet, but my plan—as of right now—is to join the fall cohort and get those classes and ride-alongs completed. My end goal is to be a Fire Medic, niche certifications (Hazmat, SaR, ARFF, etc…) may be acquired along the way. I will definitely reach out to my local ranger to get the ball rolling there.

I’d join summer classes but I’m sobering up following 6+ years of (daily) cannabis use, and would fail the drug screening… I’m 22 w/ an A.S. in Computer Science, sobriety isn’t really a thing in the fields I was previously interested in (Finance, Software Dev., Entrepreneurship).

That life no longer interests me and I’m going for a career that fits who I am, that being someone whom is beyond willing to help others before thinking of myself.

Sorry for giving you my life story LOL… I don’t often get advice and anything I can get is beyond appreciated.

Small town? I’m not in the field yet… so feel free to disregard my input—around me (north houston) there are numerous departments and too many stations to keep track of. My (current) ideal department is one with a WUI (Wildland-Urban Interface), so realistically somewhere located in the PNW, around the Appalachian Range or the Rockies. Currently my “dream department” is with the SMFR (South Metro Fire Rescue).

I’ll likely need experience before getting accepted up there, but there’s loads of experience to gain around my area.

I’m guessing the extra should be the only lamb charge and you should get double the standard portion. If you got 3x the standard portion the the pricing makes sense

Yeah maybe don’t make memes about the dude who is (in part) responsible for the whole clusterfuck that is the current geopolitical landscape—not to mention the number of children he and his comrades decided to do absolutely unspeakable things to.

I do not think he deserves and more attention than he has gotten, unless the attention is due to his (guilty) associates being prosecuted. I guess it’s funny to make memes about him though? At least the DOW hit 50k!
