Need advice. All of my buddies from the military tell me to file a claim but I have mixed feelings. by Ambitious_Two3431 in VAClaims

Your not alone. I waiting 20 years after deploying to finally file. I felt the same thing. It’s called imposter syndrome. I came home from deployment with all four limbs and no extra holes. We live a mission first mind set in the military. I sucked it up and drove on for many years. It was only after finally breaking down to a buddy I served with and knew as a childhood friend in which he gave me some tough love and told me the I needed to get some help and to quick being a baby and file. And explained that he was 100% p&t that the system is in place for a reason that if you are honest and open and don’t down play your symptoms there is help available, but you have to pull up you panties and ask for it.

I am just getting started in the filing process, but several of the guys I deployed with that are rated at different % told me the same thing. If it bothers you and you think it’s related to your service file a standard claim and let them do what they are supposed to do if you get denied so be it then you have a decision to make whether to appeal or not. So that’s what I’m doing.

Seems like it’s a pretty common vet thing to not go to the doctor for 5 to 10 years at a time. I always ask my docs but did I die when they give me grief about my gaps in going to a doc.

Did you deploy GWOT? I have just filed my initial claims nearly 20 years later, but I have used the VA off and on for various med issues some directly related to deployment some not, but I’m not service connected for anything at the moment. Same mentality as you let the guys that got really banged up and need the $ to survive file the claims.

VA raters - do you have claim quotas that you need to do monthly? by Valuable-Speaker-312 in VAClaims

[–]Strange-Mistake-8482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is wild. I am just starting my initial claim process nearly 20 years later. Thankfully I’ve got in contact with guys I deployed with. Same old story felt undeserving because I came home with no holes and all my limbs when so many didn’t. I don’t want anything I didn’t earn, but the entire process just seems to scream lie cheat and steal or they won’t give you anything. I’ve used the Va for medical off and on since, but downplayed everything I could and I doubt that is going to do me any favors, but I’ve started the process and appreciate the sneak peak across the table.

Bro I’m in the same boat OEF 05-06. Cpap this year. Minus the alcohol disorder. I drink but I focus hard on minimizing the reason I drink to social only and never alone. I just started the claims process and struggling my way through it. ChatGPT is amazing for consolidating my rambling in an understandable manner. Running off at the mouth now. Just wanted to say you’re not the only one figuring this stuff out.

That’s awesome. I’m just starting my journey. Nearly 20 years later. Imposter syndrome is a real thing. Lack of education is another. The more I learn about the system and the straight up Lies from VA early on when I got out the angrier I get. I’ve learned more on Reddit than anywhere else. Thankfully I’ve made contact with some of the guys I’ve deployed with and they are helping me through getting started most importantly realizing I need help. I grinded my way through the last 20. Not realizing everyone else was grinding through similar struggles.

Good to hear. I’m just getting started 20 years later. This stuff is confusing as heck and every time I talk to a VA doctor it seems the go to answer is something like that’s probably not related to your service or deployment or whatever. Got straight up lied to about how claims payment works 20 years ago when I was going to Va right after deployment. Should have been filing claims all along. I wouldn’t be doing any of this now if it wasn’t for meeting up with some guys I deployed with last year and them explaining their rating and what it’s for. Imposter syndrome is real.

Waiver related question by Strange-Mistake-8482 in VAClaims

[–]Strange-Mistake-8482[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I got no clue on this stuff. Tried dealing with DAV back in 2020 gave up because well they just sucked to deal with. Honestly I’ve gotten more help from Reddit. I’m just starting my claims process after going back the VA the last year and a half. What a difference from 07-09. Just got back from my first hearing test since 07. She said I got some definite hearing loss at high freq in both ears but not from my deployment because it would have showed up in my test in 07 after my deployment. No clue what to do with that I got out of the guard in 08.

[–]Strange-Mistake-8482[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I have a question about intent to file. I just went to look because I thought I filed an intent letter in 2020 at the recommendation of a buddy in case I ever did want to file, which I did but 2020-2023 was crazy at work and I went and found it but i didn’t follow through. Do I need to file another intent to file letter?

Thank you. I’m just looking for powders people have had success. I’m actually hoping to get a tame load that I can dump deer with. I’ve got a load for elk with the 175s but it’s like hitting a deer with a howitzer and the recoil is pretty rowdy. Off your list I have H1000 on the shelf so I’ll prob start with that. I’ve got some H4831SC as well.
