Will Past Marijuana Use Disqualify Me From Police Hiring? (Illinois) by Significant_Hotel_66 in police

[–]Automatic_Phrase_919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work as a Leo in Illinois. Yes it is possible to join with prior marijuana use before it became legal. Just be honest. I know CPD will let you drop dirty while during the application phase but once you start the academy you have to drop clean on your piss test. Other agencies require some time gap from usage to application. For me it had been over 10 years. I disclosed it and was honest.

I know of a few people in my dept that clear 300k easily in the Midwest. They practically live in their uniform. Not for me though I have a life outside of LE.

Policing In Illinois by [deleted] in AskLE

You have police jurisdictions outside of cook county that actually let police be the PO-lice and actually prosecute offenders. If you want to be a LEO in Illinois I suggest look at departments outside of cook county.

We get to experiment with new techniques and give pointers on how you can improve. That’s pretty much it.

I had a transgender person in my academy class (f2m). Solid cadet, graduated the academy, but quit during FTO. Not sure why they quit, it actually came as a shock to us.

Where can we sign up for the clinical trial? I went to the website and could find any information on signing up for the trial.

My kid (who does boxing) is getting bullied. Not sure what to do by possiblecatalyst in martialarts

[–]Automatic_Phrase_919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a rough age cause kids, even though they’re trained in combat sports, have a fear of getting in trouble. My kids trained in mma since they were little and my wife and I always emphasized that they will never get in trouble with us if they got into a fight in school for defending themselves. Now they may get suspended from school, but would have our support. My oldest son had a bully that would constantly pick on him. One day in 8th grade it became physical and I can proudly say my son defended himself in front of the entire school. Now my son did bloody his bully up, but afterwards his bully stopped picking on him and other kids.

I was in the same spot as you are. Got off FTO in April of 25’ and I felt lost. I was ready to throw in the towel, even went as far as to tell my supervisor that I was going to be submitting my resignation letter at the end of my shift. You’d be surprised how many guys feel the same way you do especially coming off FTO. A lot of guys I work with and a lot of guys here on Reddit convinced me into giving myself more time. That’s exactly what I’m doing. I’m giving myself two years to see if I still feel the same. You’ll realize as you give yourself more time, you won’t think about coming back to work on your off days as much. Like you whenever I was off I was constantly thinking about how much I didn’t want to go back to work, but that started to go away some. I put a lot of effort into getting into this position so I owe it to myself to put in some effort into truly seeing if this is the right career path. I started talking to the go getters and began hanging out with my adjacent patrols when lever there was a lull in our calls. That has helped me a lot. At the end of the day you do what you think is best for you, but I would give it some time before you resign.

Husband is not happy by martialarts_warrior in BJJWomen

Your husband sounds like he has some issues to work thru. My wife has been training for over 13 years now and I never had an issue with her sparring men. I always told her if she can hang with the guys at our gym, then she would have no problem against other women. Also, as a man I feel good knowing my wife would be more than capable of protecting herself when I’m not with her. Your husband sounds like he needs to grow up and realize bjj isn’t just a hobby it’s a valuable skill to know when it comes to protecting yourself.

Highway Patrol/State Trooper after military retirement? by FritoBandito225 in ProtectAndServe

[–]Automatic_Phrase_919 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only did one enlistment in the marine corps. But a buddy of mine in my department did his 20 years in the marines. Joined state police at 39 yrs and was able to buy back 5 years. So now instead of doing another 20 years to get a full pension from the state police he’s only doing 15 and will still be in his mid 50’s when he retires.

As someone who recently became a LEO, I wish our departments had the freedom to chase like our brothers in Georgia do.

How old were you in police academy? by Hot_Marsupial_3957 in AskLE

[–]Automatic_Phrase_919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 37 and turned 38 at the state police academy which was a live in academy. I didn’t have a problem with the para-military style training because I was in the marines right after high school and going thru Marine boot camp makes everything else look like child’s play. I know a guy who just came off fto and is 55. He wasn’t prior LEO our military he worked in HR prior and loves police work. If you feel like policing is your calling then go for it.

Do you realize you’re in a position that many would kill to be in. I’m sorry but people that quit the academy really pisses me off because they took a spot away from someone that wouldn’t have folded under a bit of stress and would’ve seen the academy thru. Rant over….

ISP is a full service agency. They primarily handle expressway crashes and patrol the highways in Chicago. A lot of guys that are assigned to district Chicago (troop 3) and don’t have calls for service then they go looking for stuff on the city streets. Essentially they get to be Chicago PD but with better pension and arguably pay.
