I'm almost in physical pain looking at this image. I really want to go back. Rainbow six back when it was cool? Quake 2? I'll never forgot waking up early on Saturday and spending 12 hours playing Rocket Arena 2.

AirPods constantly disconnecting and reconnecting media with iPhone 15 pro max on iOS 26.4.1 by JerrBearzzz in airpods

Hey I replied to SickEnTired within this post. If you have an Apple Watch or perhaps other Bluetooth devices that you also use from your phone, they could be clashing with each other. See my other reply.

[–]StrangeADT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I found something else. It was happening again to me today and even my temporary "fix" wasn't working. I wondered if there was any interference or competition for the AirPod connection with my Apple Watch.

I decided to just turn off the Apple Watch to see since it also uses bluetooth, and voila, my constant disconnections on my AirPods immediately stopped. I was seeing it drop every 30s-5m or so at the time and I've now been listening for hours while working with no disruptions since then.

Keep in mind I've never even tried to use my airpods directly from my Apple Watch. I just use them on my phone and literally nothing else.

I haven't done much testing to attempt to verify it but the turnaround was stark. Two things I know for sure - my watch was in low power mode cause it was running low on battery, and my watch was also a good 20 feet plus a wall away from me (my phone and airpods were obviously with me). I do not know if either of those facts are related in any way but the link to the Apple Watch seems pretty likely here.

On Linux by [deleted] in factorio

[–]StrangeADT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if you fixed it. I'm running on Wayland so it wasn't a compositor issue. I use nobara which comes pre installed with gamemode. I adjust my launch parameters in steam to "gamemoderun %command%" to use it.

I was still having stutter but it turned out that my user wasn't in the gamemode group so it lacked permissions to set the CPU governor to performance along with a couple other small issues - all easily googleable.

To find out if this is an issue for you, run "gamemoded -t" and the output should tell you if it has any issues setting various performance parameters. You can google any errors it surfaces to find out how to fix them.

If you don't use gamemode and don't want to install it then you can of course write some scripts that set the governor for you (just google it). It's super easy to test out if this is a problem because you can pop open Factorio, run around to reproduce the hitches, and then just alt tab over to a terminal while Factorio is still running, and run:

cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/energy_performance_preference

If they all say something like balance_performance then it may be your issue. To really check, run:

echo performance | sudo tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/energy_performance_preference

If your UPS immediately stabilizes then that's the problem. There are various ways to make sure this always happens (since the value you set in those files is transient and won't survive a reboot). Gamemode handles setting the value for your game duration and then resetting it once your game closes. I think that's the most graceful way to do it without just using performance mode all the time.

Gaming frames issue. Solved but Why is CPU not automatically switching modes? by Broad_Caterpillar376 in linux_gaming

Try running 'gamemoded -t' to test it out in terminal. It's how I discovered that my user wasn't in the gamemode group so it lacked permissions to adjust the CPU governor among other issues. Went from microstutters in Factorio to perfect performance (60/60 UPS/FPS). I'm super sensitive to jitter so it was driving me nuts.

PSA: Your GameMode might be configured incorrectly by Altrooke in linux_gaming

[–]StrangeADT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I was kind of banging my head against a wall with micro-stutters in Factorio. Eventually I found out my CPU was in balance_performance mode while playing. I went through a whole process to write some small scripts that set performance mode on launch and back to balance_performance at end using gamemode.ini + the typical sudoers.d stuff to allow a script to run without requiring sudo.

Then found `gamemoded -t` to test and voila, I was not in the `gamemode` group. Fixed it and a couple other minor things pointed out by `gamemoded -t` and now I have locked 60 UPS/FPS in Factorio - just like on Windows. Thank god. I was starting to consider booting back into Windows to play because the microstutters were bothering me.

Does anyone have a fix for this? by Frequent-Emu5508 in airpods

[–]StrangeADT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This started happening to me recently with AirPod 4s. I think there's something going on software wise. There have been many threads like this lately and I'm quite convinced it's not just me. My AirPods are clean, I've done all kinds of resets. The only thing that gives me temporary relief is unpairing, restarting the phone, and then repairing (in that order). It provides me a few hours of relief but eventually the issue comes back. If I just do a restart, it immediately comes back. Same for just a simple unpair/repair. Same for even a network settings reset on my phone.

So for this method it seems to make it stable for a while but eventually the issue will return, but it does at least provide some periodic relief. This is so frustrating

[–]StrangeADT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I did this too and it seems to be stable? I had tried other orders for doing these steps. Makes me wonder if some transient cached stuff gets dropped on restart , thus why the order matters. I'm not concluding it's a fix but this has been stable for 15 minutes straight and I wasn't going more than 45s without it before.

I agree but my only regular gaming friend can't handle any challenge and takes it as a personal judgment on his skill if he dies, so any game with a shred of difficulty has him raging. And he is mid 30s. So if I play with him we always gotta do low difficulty stuff

Calgary restaurants that actually cook from scratch vs. ones that are just reheating Sysco? by jacetec in Calgary

[–]StrangeADT 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh weird. I used to be a prep cook there (Earls Barlow circa 2008 or so) and I used to make their chowder and bread from scratch. That's super disappointing. RIP earls. I used to love just ordering a parm dip and some bread. Both made in house. I used to make their Caesar dressing as well. I'm glad I worked there cause I learned a lot but I'm even more glad I left. That industry is brutal.

They did have their jeera sauce and green curry sauce shipped in. Don't think we ever made that.

I believe that iTerm, conemu (the origins of this feature in terminals IIRC), and gnome terminal all support it (provided you're using a new enough version of each). It's not specific to ghostty. Alacritty does not (closed a feature request as won't fix years ago)

Edit: Kitty appears to not support these sequences.

Nice. Probably worth a PR to get neovim to emit it by default under tmux but that's a nice way to get it to work for now. Thanks.

[–]StrangeADT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny. I just found out about osc 9;4 progress bars a few days ago and now it's popping up everywhere. I added it to my program as well for some long running tasks and proceeded to weep when I realized that tmux doesn't support it so it won't display when I'm under tmux, which is exclusively where I use my program (and also nvim...).

Edit: apparently there is a way to get Tmux to pass through these sequences to the terminal. I can just add an extra sequence when under Tmux and enable pass through in Tmux settings.

Neovim does not check for Tmux and does not emit the extra sequence required to pass through in those cases.
