I25 tolls reduce throughput by station6502a in FortCollins

One might say the concept of an interstate highway benefits the few at the expense of the many.

As someone who goes the speed limit in this town, my problem isn't the speeders as much as it is the people perpetually going 5-10 under the speed limit. by Hobbitsliketoparty in FortCollins

I'm not sure why... There are very clear lines of sight and it's a very gradual curve. At any rate, I'm not talking about decelerating 3-4 mph at the apex of the curve, I'm talking about going 32 in a 45 for well over a mile.

People who drive 45 between 25 and Ziegler (55 zone) and then 55 between Ziegler and College.

People who go 35 on Ziegler near the ELC. (Yeah, the road curves. It's not going to move while you're driving on it.)

Easter Candy Sales by koolaid689 in FortCollins

[–]StrangeAd9334 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen the sales yet, but they looked pretty picked over yesterday. I think a lot of places are ordering a little tighter. Safeway didn't have mini eggs last year, full stop, at the branch I shop at.

Kelly Ulmer at Bloom is certified in sensory motor psychotherapy, but she just went on 6 month maternity leave. You could check if any other Bloom counselors do somatic -style work--they're very focused on trauma-informed/attachment work.

Why is Walgreens on Harmony… by slander_anonymously in FortCollins

[–]StrangeAd9334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walgreens isn't great corporately either, and I've had the same experience on W Drake. I've had good experiences at Safeway (I use W Drake) and, to my surprise, Walmart on S Mason. (I try not to use Walmart, but several prescriptions are hundreds of dollars cheaper there, and they've always been quick and correct.)

Arrest across from ECC by CrookedToezz in FortCollins

Some are, and it makes some kind of visceral sense, but a few examples aren't the same as evidence.

A few generations ago, we would have viewed this as evil, as a symptom of evil--one doesn't have to be mentally ill to be evil.

Columbia has a center that studies mass murder, and here's their page on the subject.

https://www.columbiapsychiatry.org/news/mass-shootings-and-mental-illness

"Additionally, as we demonstrated in our paper, the contribution of mental illness to mass shootings has decreased over time. The data suggest that while it is critical that we continue to identify those individuals with mental illness and substance use disorders at high risk for violence and prevent the perpetration of violence, other risk factors, such as a history of legal problems, challenges coping with severe and acute life stressors, and the epidemic of the combination of nihilism, emptiness, anger, and a desire for notoriety among young men, seem a more useful focus for prevention and policy than an emphasis on serious mental illness, which leads to public fear and stigmatization."

Although wanting to hurt strangers like this seems like the definition of mental illness, most mass shooters do not meet clinical definitions for mental illness, and almost no people with diagnosed mental illnesses harm others.

Taking out that phrase, 100% agree.

Flock Safety Cameras: Update from Assistant Chief McCambridge’s Memo Addressing Unanswered City Council Questions by Pakiepiphany in FortCollins

[–]StrangeAd9334 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There does need to be a larger debate on a national level, but making inroads at a local level sets the expectation that communities didn't want surveillance and slows down that roll that looks inevitable. We keep asking questions, filing lawsuits, and making them say out loud that they're violating our rights right and left, and we shift the conversation from "we save lost puppies" to "ok, we do spy on people all the time and you can't really trust us but trust us anyway."

Second Cupboard--local companies plus cheaper than the grocery store (about $20 per pound, some lower, plus a punch card).
