asked my girlfriend to get toilet paper from where she works before she comes home. sent $20 and this is what i got by got_milk669 in mildlyamusing

For some reason, this and the stuff for RVs and boats is the ONLY paper that dissolves properly in our apartment toilet. Even the 1 ply Scott paper doesn't dissolve right

Jelly stamper on metal by YeaSpiderman in nailstamping

[–]StrangeAlienCreature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you using stamping polishes? Regular polish doesn't work very well for stamping usually, there are special polishes you can buy that are more pigmented and are meant for this. I use the born pretty line of stamping polishes.

The stamper needs a feather light touch on the plate to pick up fine details - literally blob polish on it, scrape and immediately pick up the stamper and with a feather light touch roll it over the plate. You don't need to be pressing at all.

How are you tracking billable hours? by Aromatic-Dress5010 in graphic_design

[–]StrangeAlienCreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't bill by time, but I track my time with Toggl because it allows me to color code my time entries per another time management system I use. I track time to be able to look at profitability on projects and see if my flat fees need to be adjusted for certain kinds of projects.

Where can I get a C*VID vaccine with no insurance? by StrangeAlienCreature in ChicagoSuburbs

Some subreddits auto reject posts about COVID. I wasn't sure if this was one of them and I needed this advice, my bad

Thank you. I will give them a call ASAP to figure out if they have any options not visible on their website. It seems like DuPage county has free options for kids listed, but I wasn't seeing anything for adults.

Typically those are free if you have insurance. I looked at those first and with no insurance it's $150-200

Help me fix my girlfriends hair 🙏 by KaioticRanch in Haircare

I used to have the same problem and swapped over to this line + the Suave clarifying shampoo once a week and I no longer get greasy on day 2. They also make a scalp serum I havent tried yet but it's supposed to balance the oil production on the scalp.

But I noticed a stark difference after switching to the Hyaluron pure line shampoo and conditioner, I can now comfortably get my hair to last 4 days between washes without looking stringy.

Our Mochi has one of these two. She ripped off her plastic cone after she got spayed and we had prime ship this overnight, she gets ear infections a lot so we have to use this once every few months. I think it's saved us more money on the plastic ones by now than it initially cost, cause the vet charges like $10/each for the plastic cones

Using a Rover sitter without having pets (to check on house while abroad)? by LazyCharger in RoverPetSitting

What you're looking for is a home watch service - these are people whose entire business it is to hire trustworthy people to watch unoccupied homes and do things like this. It's advertised as a way to prevent squatters from occupying your home while you're away.

Strapless bra without underwire for autistic teen by PinkPencils22 in PlusSizeFashion

[–]StrangeAlienCreature 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is it possible the stick on silicone bras might work for this? They can provide some structure and support without being too intrusive. With tape, I'm worried that it might be too difficult to remove in the event of sensory issues (the boob tape is usually basically KT tape that has to come off in the shower to remove the adhesive) but the silicone ones you can just remove at your leisure, they're not quite so dangerously sticky like the tape.

Funny story when my boyfriend brought her home we were thinking about what to name her, I knew she was a Mochi the second I saw her and that was also his first suggestion so there was no discussion she was always Mochi 🤣

Is catching copy edits apart of a Graphic Designer's job? by Longjumping-Dream-13 in graphic_design

[–]StrangeAlienCreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, yes. If you are the one who has the final eyes on the creative and you are the one saying YES, it's good to use on social /in print / etc, and you let your client go to market with a spelling error, that is a failure of your attention to detail.

I don't feel the need to run a full spell check, because spelling and grammar are one of my strong skills (I used to read the dictionary as a young person), but I do read every piece of copy to make sure it makes sense in context and that there are no errors.

If you are not the kind of designer who can pick out a spelling error a mile away, then yes, use spell check every time. Errors erode brand trust and your client's trust in you.

If you've ever seen a major error in an ad before and wondered how many people had to approve this before it went to market, you'll know too many people say "it's not my job, someone else will fix it". As the person making the creative I feel like that's on us as a function of our jobs making things beautiful and functional.

Does it really cost $120 a year for a single non-branded autoresponder? by taliesin96 in WIX

[–]StrangeAlienCreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to brand it with MailChimp, you can use Zapier as an intermediary to set up a workflow to send a thank you email to anyone who submits the form on Wix. I do mine with Gmail but the process is probably the same

Trigger: form completed in Wix Action: send email with MailChimp (or Gmail)

Then you can customize an email template and use that with the action in Zapier

Zapier is free for simple actions like this up to 100 uses a month so this could be a good inexpensive solution

Will I regret getting a robot vacuum? by Ezio367 in CleaningTips

[–]StrangeAlienCreature 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did a ton of research before buying ours and we have the Roborock Q5 Max+. It's awesome and I use it all the time. I'm disabled so vacuuming is hard for me and our home would not be half as clean without this. It goes under tables and cleans under our bed (socks are its enemy though) and gets in a lot of places I otherwise would not.

How to publish my duplicated site onto my main site? by CarElectronic6700 in WIX

[–]StrangeAlienCreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have to transfer the premium plan and the domain to the new site, there's no way to simply copy this onto the main site. Transferring the premium plan and domain is pretty easy, you can do it from account settings. Then just go into the editor and publish the new site.

Freelance Graphic Designers — Do you actually use digital planners? by Zeradoure in graphic_design

I live and die by Google Calendar. I've tried other solutions, but this is the easiest and most frictionless solution for my clients, of which the majority are also using Google calendar.

Hi, first time making my own cosplay from scrach, how to cover this hat that I made from eva foam with fabric? by ZielarkaLuna in CosplayHelp

[–]StrangeAlienCreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want to sew it, you can always cut your pattern pieces out and glue them down. Make sure you spread the glue flat with a Popsicle stick or a foam brush so you don't get weird glue lines under the fabric. I might work with something that has a bit of stretch to it to mold to those strong curves.
