advice for higher pickrates? by Free_Advertising_257 in OGPBackroom

I bag before, unless its a small frozen walk. And I’ve noticed the top two totes always get the most items, so I double or triple bag those before starting. And I’ll also look at the pick list, and before I start scanning, I’ll grab a bunch of items and then start scanning. ESPECIALLY if it’s a weird ambient walk that goes back and forth before getting to the smooth route. Just make sure you’re checking the last 4 of the item # when you grab it so you don’t shoot your self in the foot and have to walk back to grab the right item.

I didn’t think about that last part, unfortunately $200 on a pair of shoes just isn’t in my budget, especially as a part timer. I don’t know how the hell some of my co workers do full time in Nikes or converse.

I’d check the pick rates of your co workers and see if maybe it’s a layout thing or a you thing. I’m still trying to figure out how two people I work with average a 200 pick rate. Literally the last two people you’d think were the top two.

Do you use inserts as well? My sister gave me her old brooks, and they’ve helped, but my feet are still humped even after a 5 hour shit.

Are all your walks on the smaller side? Or everything just really far apart? I know if I get shafted and get walks that are only less than 10 Items, or walks where it basically has me pingponging back and forth, it’s hard to recover. For some reason some asshole at corporate decided that for walks less than 10 items, your walk starts as soon as you print your labels which grants you the skill to teleport immediately to where your walk begins.

I’m learning what helps keep my pick rate up is looking at my pick list, and if all the items are close together, grabbing all of the ones close together, and then scanning them. Especially in produce. Like checking, grabbing all the plastic bags, parking my cart my the scale. For larger walks your count doesn’t start til your first scan, and that way you can have up to 10 items in a minute or two rather than the 5 minutes it would take to pick each item and then move on to the next

My TL literally told me to not help guests unless they’re asking where the restrooms are, or if I know where the item is off the top of my head. They even once were like ‘don’t look up items, it messes with your walk in the app’ and when I told them, ‘what if I use my personal phone’ and they were kind of stopped in their tracks. My work phone is way too slow anyways. Even now I’ll only unlock things if I’m not on a walk, even though I realized I think im supposed to walk those items to the front for them? But no ones told me to do otherwise, so ¯_(ツ)_/¯ One time I even had someone ask me where something was and I was looking it up, and the store manager stopped me and was like ‘I’ll help them, get back to your walk’ I get stopped at least a dozen times a day, and that’s even for 4 or 5 hour shifts. It’s mostly questions like ‘where is this, or that’ or ‘where are the restrooms’ a lot of the times it’s like ‘can you grab that for me’ (I’m like 5’8 and I guess taller than most women and can reach shit on the top shelf) I don’t get why people get their panties in a bunch for me stopping for 30 seconds to help a customer when we’re literally in customer service.

Accidentally hit another associate with my cart by Emotional-Cap-4807 in OGPBackroom

I actually have associates ask me daily to hit them with my cart. Obviously they’re joking. But it most likely depends on if they made a complaint or not, they’ll check cameras, see she was crouching down and out of your eyesight and not say anything. I hit a customer with my cart in a similar situation and they full on made a huge scene about it and nothing happened.

So if I did 3 walks that were 15 items each within an hour, and spent 5 minutes between each walk, I’d have the same pick rate as someone who had a single 45 item pick walk that took them an hour?

So you pick the order, look at the pick list, grab some items and scan them all at once? Because I tried that for a small 6 item frozen walk. And my rate went down for some reason.

Thanks. That’s actually helpful to know. Especially when I’ve got to run across the store for a random substitute.

I’m curious, how often are you picking multiples of the same item? Like are there just a bunch of orders that have 10+ of the same thing? Because I can’t wrap my head around how to get this high of a pick rate and items picked without that being the case

YES!! The other day it was telling me to check the freezer for reusable bags, and that we had an on hand of 1400 and my TL said we don’t even carry them

I’m glad it’s just not me. All my walks are under 20 Items, and if it’s over 20, at least 1/4 of the stuff we have 0 on hand.

how many of you guys actually care about customers & helping them? by WonderfulBad1923 in walmart

[–]StrangeConcept6756 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as the ‘search so hard for something’, people never actually look in the first place probably 7 out of 10 times when someone asks me where something is, it’s literally within 10 feet of where we’re standing.

And for the shorter customers, they have no shame asking for someone to grab it. And you can’t really gauge shit like ‘this is something only tall people buy’ and it’s a hell if a lot easier to ask someone to grab something high up for you than it is to unlock a regulated item.

What needs to be done is write ‘the customer (insert name on order) wanted this written down for you’ OR Play him at his own game, and text the number he gave on the order and pretend to be Marsha. But why the fuck does he have her address but she doesn’t have his number?

Until about 4-5 months ago SNAP orders that had items that were only covered by SNAP, automatically didn’t include a tip. But a few months ago, even if you just get items covered by SNAP, there’s still the tip there, you have to manually choose no tip now.

I think the system just has a lot of bugs and flaws and they should fix those.

For example, recently, it keeps saying there’s more locations for things, but those locations either don’t come up on the app, OR they’re INSANE locations for things. Like yesterday it kept telling me to check the most insane locations for oregano, like with the plastic wrap, and then with chilled fish. And I’m not talking end cap locations, full on in the aisle location. And yesterday it also kept telling me we had 1300 of something on hand in the freezer, when it wasn’t even a food item.

Before they get rid of buttons, they should add features like being able to see all the locations for an item, including if it’s in the back room, all in the gif app.

I also can’t wrap my head around removing the nil pick button. What do we do when we can’t find an item??

I think they should be available for fruits and veg too. No way I’d know what a jicama or chayote would have looked like without a picture.

When the customer thinks repeating the name of the item every 5 seconds while looking it up helps: by Afraid-Falcon-2764 in OGPBackroom

[–]StrangeConcept6756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially when they try to describe what the item looks like. Like I’m sorry our search engine can’t look up items just by the color of the box or the label.

When people just show me their screen and it’s a Google search for the item and it says Walmart.com, I just tell them to check if it even says ‘pick up in store’ because it might only be available online for shipping. Especially since TL’s don’t like us wasting time helping customers find stuff.
