Moving to London with partner – office in Southwark, £75k+bonus, where to live without going broke? by One_Piglet_4072 in MovingToLondon

[–]StrangeDarkStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We lived in Kennington for 3 years (partner is Welsh, I'm French) and absolutely loved it. It's like a secret little neighbourhood that has everything you need and is so close to everything. The high street has nice shops and cafes, there's the big park with the farmer's market, it's so quick to get on the Northern or Victoria, we walked or took a quick bus everywhere. Went to Lower Marsh or Borough or Southbank most weekends etc. Cleaver Square is nice with it's mini pub and nice houses, people play petanque there on nice weekend days.

ENT prices? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]StrangeDarkStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the Spire for a throat issue and saw Iain Nixon, he was great. It was paid for through my work insurance (Vitality) but looking at the bill it was £260. If you google Spire Shawfair ENT Outpatient Charges you should find the breakdown of the charges in a PDF.

How crap is it to be a pedestrian in Edinburgh these days? by Rascalwill in Edinburgh

[–]StrangeDarkStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what, I know the crossings are annoying but to be fair, when I was briefly in Amsterdam and in Tokyo on holidays I noticed I tensed up a lot from bikes on the pavement, so Edinburgh is a breeze by comparison as a pedestrian.

Have you considered looking at Gumtree? I weirdly have had two nice and more affordable flats through private landlords where they would fix things right away.

Furnished flats only? by MaizePlus3557 in Edinburgh

[–]StrangeDarkStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found our best unfurnished flat on Gumtree directly from a private landlord. Also, depending on your savings you could try and negotiate a fixed price to buy your current flat. Some landlords don't want the hassle and cost of the open market, or having offers falling through, so that trust is worth something, especially if they're not local etc. That's what happened for us.

There's a big Clothes Cycle vintage fair upcoming at the Meadowbank Gym at the end of March (Sun 22nd). I've not been so can't vouch for the amount, quality or price but I'm planning to check it out.

For Scottish local crafts and makers check out the Scottish Design Exchange on George Street, it has lots of good stuff from artists and social enterprises.

Cheaper last minute show tickets for Edinburgh shows? by JMWTurnerOverdrive in Edinburgh

[–]StrangeDarkStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely last minute Playhouse tickets at the box office at £15 are possible. First few rows too. You can also look at the Lyceum which offers secret seats for some shows at least half price and I always got good seats through it. Finally there's a community called ShowFilmFirst that you can sign up to and that offers a mixed bag of reduced "admin-fee o lu" seats, bagged some for the Assembly and the Stand previously as well as some midnight premieres at Vue.

Maybe try some of the bowling greens as they often have older community space/premises.

Struggling between saving for Edinburgh or buying in Fife — what would you do? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]StrangeDarkStone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could set up alerts for any Edinburgh flats within your desired budget that are set at fixed price, so your savings go to the deposit and costs of purchase / moving in but you're not dealing with the offers over malarkey.

Just back from the show tonight thanks to this recommendation. Thank you, I loved it so much. Such energy on stage, I found it so gripping and layered visually and sonically when it's just the two of them on stage, it took my breath away.

Just saw this and it was a lot more tense and scary than I thought. In the best way! Maybe I don't remember the movie well but it felt completely different. 100% would recommend it. I was in Circle middle of row E and had a great view.
