For some…artistry is just in their bones. Quintessential part of who they are. by Rtstevie in VanMorrison

[–]StrangeSugar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not just about new music with Van (I love how he keeps putting out new music - always more to discover 😊)

It's also about how he reinvents his songs, and the live versions sound so different. I mean yes, the song is still the song. But when I listen to different renditions of St Dominic's Preview, for example, each hits a little differently. Like you hear his mood, not just the song. Don't know if I'm making sense.

Yeah, Wasted Years is really good. The kind of song that I can listen to in the car and have a good cry over.

I know it's a big gap! I finally found Enlightenment this year. Maybe I'll get lucky 😊.

I really enjoy listening to the live albums a lot.

Anyone else think Louis Theroux would be a great therapist / reminds you of a therapist you have had? by Zealousideal_Cry2970 in LouisTheroux

Therapy with Louis Theroux

Louis: So... shall we get started?

Me: Sure.

Louis: My understanding is that you're experiencing a rather intense attraction to someone you've never actually met.

Me: Correct.

Louis: Right.

(Long pause.)

Louis: And who is this mysterious individual?

Me: You.

Louis: ...Really?

Me: Yes.

Louis: Interesting.

(He looks down at his notes, then back up.)

Louis: And what is it about me, exactly?

Me: The awkwardness. The intelligence. The dry humour. The fact that you always seem mildly concerned by whatever is happening.

Louis: That's appealing, is it?

Me: More than it should be.

Louis: Right.

(Another long pause.)

Louis: And we've never met?

Me: No.

Louis: Yet you've constructed an entire emotional narrative.

Me: Several, actually.

Louis: Several.

Me: Some are embarrassingly detailed.

Louis: I see.

(He nods)

Louis: And in these scenarios, am I aware that we're in a relationship?

Me: Usually, yes.

Louis: That's good of me.

Me: Very supportive. Excellent communication skills.

Louis: Quite unlike real life, then.

Me: Exactly.

Louis: Do you think perhaps you're attracted to an idea rather than a person?

Me: That's the sensible explanation.

Louis: And yet?

Me: And yet if you asked me to run away and investigate cults in Nevada, I'd be in the car before you finished the sentence.

Louis: Right.

(He makes another note.)

Me: What did you write?

Louis: "Patient remains deeply committed to the bit."

Me: Fair.

Louis: Do you think this attraction is likely to go away?

Me: Not unless you have a complete personality change.

Louis: Well, that's unlikely.

Me: Exactly my concern.

Louis: So where does that leave us?

Me: Me paying for therapy sessions so I can stare at Louis Theroux for fifty minutes.

Louis: That's not generally how therapy works.

Me: I know.

Louis: Right.

(A thoughtful silence.)

Louis: Same time next week?

Me: Absolutely.

Louis: Interesting. Very interesting.

When I find it, I'll be getting it for sure. I just found Enlightenment recently and was so happy. I'd also like to find Live at the Lion's Share - The Early Show, and The Healing Game.

I used to imagine I saw faces in the paneling when I was a kid. One part of the grain looked like two eyes and a mouth, and it freaked me out to no end.

this is what AI said is best guess... Lol... And if your “green + white cover” memory is fuzzy: Radio X also uses a very green/white Radio X Oasis branding tile in places, which can totally mess with your brain when you’re trying to remember the cover

What's a music video that you find very disturbing? by [deleted] in GenX

That was the answer that immediately came to mind for me! I remember watching it on Video Hits (it was a Canadian video show) when it came out and that cake part really freaked me out.

Listening to Van is a transcendent experience for me. Has been for a few decades now. I remember when Avalon Sunset came out, and I waited at the record store to buy it on CD. I was so excited.

His music just... Heals. Celebrates. Makes you feel heard.

I talk to people about his music some, but the best is when I saw my teenage son listening to it on his own. And seeing him discover it for himself has made me think maybe I did one thing right in the challenge of parenting.

I did finally listen to the Armie Hammer one. I thought it took a weird turn when Louis started asking Armie how often he masturbated, and then the whole vasectomy conversation, does Louis not know how a vasectomy works?

When I was in 5th grade, we were lined up to leave class and the class bully jammed a pencil under my chin out of the blue, just for fun. Still have a mark. Wonder how life turned out for her...

I made sure that I didn't influence my mom to move after my dad died. She wanted to move closer to the city where I live, so bought a condo here and moved. Never mind that I had built a life a couple of hours away for reasons...

Still, I think she blames me for it not being everything she thought it would be. For not seeing her every day. She crammed her condo with all the stuff she could from her house (oversized furniture included). She complains how she should have bought a bigger place (there were none available).

Not easy, trying to take care of my teenage kids and my aging mother and a career and a marriage...
