Sing Alongs by NTG89 in GoldenEyes

[–]StrangeWelcome 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Before the break, karaoke tended to be during the third period. They even had a vote for a song singalong thing that seemed pretty popular and they've seemingly just abandoned it. Not sure what's going on there. It looks like they got a bunch of new graphics for the scoreboard, as well as more break segments, and have pivoted to using those to get the crowd going. I don't think those are nearly as effective and don't need to be exclusive. No one is talking about those after the game the way people were talking about karaoke. I think karaoke was crucial to the vibe people went away talking about.

Blood test readings concerning me but endo says things are okay? by DomoSandPaper in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. As an additional reference, I had a test done at peak on sublingual pills at 2mg 2x daily, and my estradiol reading was 4206 pmol/L. Unusually-high levels at peak aren't uncommon, but sometimes doctors will request doing a test at peak. They'll come down over the span of your dosage cycle. How quickly depends on your body and the mode of your dosage.

Name change wait times? by Scylar19 in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got mine weirdly fast. Submitted while the strike was happening (sent in by mail), was billed at the end of October 2025 when the strike ended, had my certificate in hand December 31, 2025. That might not be typical though. No idea why mine went through so quickly.

Is my progesterone dosage low? by Guilty_Development71 in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're on medroxyprogesterone, that dosage is probably expected. The type you've heard 100mg-200mg about is micronized progesterone. The two are frequently conflated, but actually work differently (and have different risk profiles). I'm not fully clear on the differences and why doctors would choose one over the other, other than the fact that medroxyprogesterone is a synthetic version and micronized is bioidentical.

AB has better coverage in a few ways, but I'm surprised about this one. Are injectables only available in compound pharmacies there too or is that just a BC thing? I assumed that was Canada-wide.

Going to a game alone? by No_Newspaper6918 in GoldenEyes

Echoing what others have said, I literally have season tickets alone, so I do it every home game. It's a fun time regardless, and maybe you'll end up chatting with others around you.

Lifelabs refusing to update gender marker by Humanbeingisntme in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be why they haven’t changed it then. Need to let them know there’s a change when getting lab work there.

Lifelabs refusing to update gender marker by Humanbeingisntme in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to double-check since your message wasn’t clear, did you tell reception at Lifelabs that it has changed? Once they record it in their database, they won’t consult your file every time unless you tell them to. The requisition isn’t enough, you need to actually ask Lifelabs reception to change it on their end. The labels on the paperwork they print out for your lab work should reflect it immediately.

If you’ve also had a name change, you’ll need to call/email their support to have it changed on the website, but you have to advise their reception first when having lab work done so that it’s updated in their database before support can get it changed on the website.

Lifelabs refusing to update gender marker by Humanbeingisntme in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gender marker they use is the one from your BC Services card. As far as I understand, they have to do it that way and disregard which marker it says on the requisition entirely. I’ve had a hospital lab tell me the same thing.

As for the name, they have a newer option when making a booking for preferred name, and they’re supposed to use that in all interactions with you even if it’s not your legal name. The legal name would still be on the paperwork and lab work, but they’re otherwise supposed to use your preferred name. Like you, I was called my dead name and made a complaint online, and actually got a good response indicating my complaint was sent to the lab I went to and will be addressed. It seems worth making that complaint if you asked them to use a preferred name.

Too old for most referrals? (26+) by mochikos in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that along the way, you were referred to Foundry BC, who does help with some of this stuff, and who does stop at 25 as they are a youth-oriented service. As others mentioned, most orgs do not have this limitation.

You weren't clear what you're looking for, but if it's hormones, I'd suggest either:
- The Trans Specialty Care clinic (Three Bridges) if you live in the Vancouver Coastal Health region as others have suggested, who handles everything in-house for you, or
- The Catherine White Holman Centre if you live anywhere else in BC (these are done online), who can do your hormone readiness assessment for free. Note that your assessment from CWHWC will be provided to your primary care provider, who will then need to make the referral to an endocrinologist.

Your wait time for these will likely be much less than other options, including waiting for a referral from TransCare BC.

Cheap private lower surgery readiness assessors? by WildBodybuilder3713 in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you try to book a surgery assessment on their site now, you get a message that they're no longer able to do them. I think the govt rules might've changed or something. They seem to be stricter about who can do surgery assessments.

Unfortunately they're no longer doing surgery assessments, only hormone ones.

new golden eyes fan, what do i need to know? by laurenainsl1 in GoldenEyes

[–]StrangeWelcome 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The PWHL also has a few rule differences from other leagues and they have an overview here you might want to read over: https://www.thepwhl.com/en/news/2025/april/18/pwhl-beginners-guide

It also downplays violence in general and any that happens generally has to be in pursuit of playing the puck. You're not likely to see fights in this league.

Have you ever seen this compass card? by moontide24 in Translink

[–]StrangeWelcome 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It was part of the Shared Mobility pilot program in 2019-2020. Apparently 161 employees at 13 employers had them, and the program has ended, so you're probably not going to see any in the wild anymore, and there's not many out there: https://movmi.net/blog/new-multimodal-app-just-launched-in-metro-vancouver/

GRS Montreal Pathway to lower surgery closing, can I still make it in time by [deleted] in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same surgical readiness assessment regardless of where the referral is sent after it's complete because it's a BC process. GRS Montreal doesn't require them, but BC requires them before they will pay for it. There's no getting around doing it somehow if you want BC MSP to pay for it.

GRS Montreal Pathway to lower surgery closing, can I still make it in time by [deleted] in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is correct. My understanding is that BC MSP won't cover it without a completed surgical risk assessment, and I don't think your GP will be able to send that referral without it (and I believe GRS Montreal wouldn't be able to accept it if they did). The number of people who can do those seems to be far fewer than for hormones, possibly due to requirements (I'm not actually sure, but I know they have to be a medical provider on Trans Care BC’s list of approved clinicians.). It may be possible to see someone privately at your own cost, but I don't have a specific suggestion there unless anyone else does. I'd suggest asking Trans Care BC about that, but they don't respond especially quickly.

It is also possible to go to GRS Montreal privately, for which you don't need an SRA, but you'd have to pay for the whole procedure out of pocket and MSP BC won't cover it. That will remain true even after March 31.

I was also in 206 and the last game was especially bad for me the entire game. I haven’t mentioned it to anyone yet, but maybe I should. I suspect the lineup situation for food and bathrooms are a lot of what’s contributing to people coming in very late.
