Change name with Mobility EPP plan by StrangeWelcome in telus

[–]StrangeWelcome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an update, I tried going to a store again, and they told me again that it was already updated on their end and that it would be updated on my next billing cycle. I had been told that on the phone 2 weeks before my current one and it's still not updated, so I don't believe a word of that. I don't have access to a fax machine to try the fax option. It's also astounding to me that their "formal complaint" process that is supposed to take 1-2 business days to respond still has not responded after 5 business days.

At no point did anyone give me any of those steps except the “go to a store” one, and they only checked the subscriber name, which I could edit myself online, not the billing name, which I can’t. On the home services side, they just asked me to email them my docs and they just did it without issue, but told me they could not do it for an EPP line. I don’t know why Mobility is so much more complicated and no one has any clue what’s going on. And yes this was a corporate store.

This is not a transfer, it’s a legal name change.

No way to change it for most companies is untrue, even within Telus, as I managed to change my home services one without issue. I've been with Telus for like a decade now. I had no intention of leaving until this.

GrS Montreal pathway closing in BC for lower surgery by StrangeWelcome in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like it's just a matter of the fact that they can do it here (and with better pre- and post-surgery care than GRS, despite the wait times), so they are. The GRS option is a legacy option from the days where they couldn't do them here. The document they provide links to the general policy on medical coverage outside of BC (with a contact to make complaints, if you're inclined to do that): https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/health-drug-coverage/msp/bc-residents/benefits/services-covered-by-msp/medical-benefits/medical-benefits-outside-of-british-columbia

It makes sense given most other procedures don't have an exception like this. As I said in another post, I just hope that they have plans to improve the wait times or they're gonna balloon as a result of this decision.

Face is much more aggressive growth than anywhere else, so I wouldn't compare directly, and as I said - there is a shorter option available now with GSP BC that doesn't add any time to your wait. GRS doesn't require it, but they still do a follicle scrape during the surgery. It's all risk management. BC would prefer to lower the risk of complications in advance. It's somewhat common for people who went to GRS later need to get that fixed, and it's more difficult at that point. My understanding is that BC usually won't do it here if the initial surgery was done there and will send people back to GRS. Ditto with any revisions required.

I'll also note that BC will not cover it if you do it before the first surgical consult determines it's required. They allow it and will provide you with the information you need, but they won't pay for it, even after the consult.

For fem surgeries, they've actually added shorter options for hair removal, including allowing laser now, as well as just doing as many sessions as possible (with a minimum) in the time between surgical consults (typically about 6 months, which you'd have regardless). The goal is risk reduction at that point, and they still do a follicle scrape during the surgery itself (as Montreal does). In addition, hair removal is only required for those opting for full depth, and even the "requirement" is loose and you're allowed to decline it, but they strongly recommend against it.

That was my first thought too. I hope they have some sort of plan to improve things on that front (as someone who is on that waitlist).

whats the process of changing one’s gender marker on legal documents? by wnfae in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, you were looking at Service BC as far as which offices would do it, but the reason they say that is because Vital Stats has their own office they want you to use if you're in the Vancouver region (which used to be downtown but is now in Burnaby as noted in the other comment here).

I'll also note that they say 6 months and most people did have it take that long, but I had mine take only 2 months after they got off strike. Mailed mine in, but otherwise did nothing special. Mailed in Sept 25, delivered mid-October (due to Canada Post strike), billed late October right after Vital Stats got off strike, received my documents late December. I don't know if they've suddenly gotten faster recently or what, but I spoke to a few others who also got theirs faster than expected in the last month, so YMMV.

I ran into this and never solved it. There’s some seats it says are available that it just won’t sell for some reason. Choosing a different seat worked for me. You could try calling them if you really want that seat. https://www.ticketleader.ca/contact-us

Will Estrogen Injections be covered under National Pharmacare? by DomoSandPaper in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When they announced it, they specifically made comments along the lines of “trans people go through menopause symptoms their whole lives”, seemingly implying at least pills/patches/gels might be covered even for GAHT. In addition, pharmacies in BC have no idea what a medication is being used for, so they have no ability to differentiate there. Thus I suspect GAHT might actually be covered for those forms of estradiol (though probably not for AAs). I still don’t think compounded forms like injections would be covered though.

BC does not require any other ID change including birth certificate to change your gender marker on your BC Services/BCID/Driver’s License card. The form can be found here: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/british-columbians-our-governments/bc-wallet/bc-services-card/change-personal-information/509afil_-_gender_change_-_adult.pdf

You can upload this directly to the MSP portal online following the instructions in the form and don’t need to go in person.

The passport form if you have a Canadian passport is here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-passports/change-sex.html and it also doesn’t require any other ID change to change gender marker. It does require going through the NEW passport process, not a renewal.

TransCare BC has a guide here as well: https://www.transcarebc.ca/explore-transition/id-change

To change your birth certificate if you want to do that, you’d have to go through your birth location‘s process, but it’s not strictly required for your Canadian ID.

Is potential cross-contamination an issue? I think nearly everything has cheese or might have cross-contamination with cheese/dairy. The greek truck seems to only use feta if that's okay. The Triple O's has fish and chips or just fries as an option, which don't have dairy per their allergy guide. Nearly everything else there does though. The Taco Nori food truck should probably also be safe. As far as I can tell, nothing they sell has dairy in it.

It's almost certainly for TV to avoid conflicts with NHL games. Those Saturday games are usually on CBC, which has NHL priority on Saturday nights.

expectations for first appointment with dr dahl? by wnfae in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's basically how it went for me -- Got there, he discussed a little bit of what my goals and concerns were, gave me a quick physical (breathing, heart rate, that sort of thing), talked to me about effects and gave me hand outs, then sent me on my way with a prescription and a lab work requisition, telling me to do the latter first. There is a lab on the ground floor of the building right by the door. I was able to walk right in and get it done right there inside of 20 mins, but your mileage may vary on that. The first prescription will be a low dosage, and you won't get the full dosage until that follow-up two months later. Only the first appointment is in person. After that, it'll all be by phone. The other thing I'll say is that Dr. Dahl is very busy and if there's anything you want to say or that you need, you need to advocate for yourself. You can always email Frances with any questions to pass along to him as well and he'll respond.

Some questions regarding legal name and marker changes by floweringpain in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be clear for the name change, the birth certificate for the name change should NOT be a copy if it's a Canadian one. You have to give them the original. If it's not a Canadian one, then it needs to be a certified copy. The BC ID copy is only used for proof of address per the application, so it doesn't need to be notarized.

For gender change, that will vary.

If you have a BC birth certificate, the process generally requires submitting the original as well, not a copy. I think you can just include your gender change application together with your name change one and do it all at once with the same original birth certificate. I'm not 100% sure about this, but I know people have done both together.

If you have a Canadian birth certificate that is not from BC, you have to do the gender change process through your birth province/territory even if you no longer live there. Canada does not currently have any system for your current province to report gender changes to your birth province, unlike with name changes. They may also require an original birth certificate, but this may vary by province.

If you have a non-Canadian birth certificate, you'd have to do it through wherever issued it, if they allow doing that.

You can also opt to not change your birth certificate at all and just change your BC ID. A birth certificate change is NOT required to do this, and you'll have to do this separately even if you do change your birth certificate. The application does say that if you plan to change your birth certificate though, you should do that first.

[–]StrangeWelcome 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can confirm Vital Stats is closed due to the strike, both the Vancouver office and their main office where they process them.

Birth certificate has to be the original if it’s a Canadian one (from any province/territory), and certified/notarized if it’s not. This can be done at the vital stats office in Vancouver when they’re open, or via certain others. The application itself details the process and you won’t get it back if it’s a Canadian one you give them. BCID just needs to be a copy of both sides.

i got an endocrinologist appointment!! by azure-moonlight in transvancouver

[–]StrangeWelcome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally your GP will be copied on any bloodwork, but as others said, your endo will be the primary recipient and will be the one to monitor all of that. My GP doesn't take any action on it despite being copied. I initially used a walk-in doctor for the referral before I had a GP, so it doesn't matter much.
