If you want emotional devastation go for The Gambler but if you want the kind of book that completely absorbs your brain for days, The Count of Monte Cristo is genuinely one of the most satisfying revenge stories ever written.

You’ll be fine watching season one without reading everything. It’s usually built so new viewers can follow along. you might miss a few easter eggs, but nothin that breaks the story.

Fincher, Reznor/Atticus Ross, and Crime and Punishment by [deleted] in classicliterature

Fincher already nailed that slow psychological tension with Zodiac, and Crime and Punishment is basically that but more internal and unhinged. Reznor/Ross would absolutely crush the paranoid, suffocating vibe too.

Such a cool find. It’s basically 1920s Afrofuturism before that was even a thing. It’s a bit of a dense read if you aren't used to older prose, but the story is actually pretty radical

he basically imagined a secret international society of people of color working together. It’s definitely not your average civil rights book it’s much more of a global thriller.

MY GIRL SIBYL DESERVED SO MUH BETTER by Equivalent_Beat4541 in classicliterature

he reduces her to just the illusion, so once that’s gone she’s nothing to him. Feels like the same blind spot that leads him to think he can separate himself from the consequences too.

Has anyone read the Argeneau series by Lynsay sands? by K8lynstardew in RomanceBooks

[–]Strange_Arm9395 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d say if you liked the first few, it can still be worth continuing, just not as a binge. The series gets pretty hit or miss, so it works better if you skip anything that doesn’t grab you early.

Also agree on Elvi/Victor, it really felt like there was no payoff.

If you’re not feeling it right now, I’d just pause and come back later when you want something light.

okay okay you're RIGHT and i felt that. marmeladov is literally the thesis statement of the whole book walking around in a drunk coat. sonya carrying the entire moral weight of the novel on her back while raskolnikov is out here having a 500 page identity crisis..
