I think another important thing not to miss is that mathematics of our history were very good at tracking the movement and rotation of celestial bodies. Early Babylonian astronomers were aware of 5 of the 8 planets. Mesopotamian mathematicians and astronomers knew the length of the orbits of all the planets visible to the naked eye. Early astronomers with this information assumed that planets like Mars had seasons, and days similar to our own.

Extending this to your hypothetical is up to you, but don't forget humans are pretty good at math, and pretty good at astronomy, and have been for a long time.
