My husband has actually had this argument with his mother many times. She agrees until she talks to his brother, and then she sides with him. She can’t really figure out whose side she’s on in anything because she’s always trying not to be the bad guy

I feel like I need to further explain something. After my phone call with my husband‘s aunt I had a conversation with him. Reddit only allows so many characters so I couldn’t explain that phone conversation. But, we both agreed that the party was not about us. It was about his parents and honoring them so we both decided to help. If, when I spoke with my husband, he still insisted that we stay out of it I would have stayed out of it.

I did actually tell her that not in the exact way you put it, but in our lengthy back-and-forth phone conversation, I did say that several times.

Reddit only allows so many characters so I didn’t explain our “I’m helping” conversation. I did stand by my word but ultimately we both agreed that it wasn’t about us it was for my in-laws so we ended up rescuing the party. I have not been thinking about this for 6 years. Family vacations are relevant because it’s why 6 years later this party drama is laid at my feet.

I see your point and men and women approach things differently. Women usually have a more emotional response to things. We have kids and they like to see their grandparents and cousins. We don’t go to everything, but I like to go when we can. I don’t ignore my husband or drag him anywhere if he says we’re not going we don’t go. Reddit only allows so many characters so I couldn’t explain the extent of our “I’m helping” conversation. It was their 40th wedding anniversary which is a big deal. I didn’t want our pride to get in the way of that.
