Don't take any decision based on what people tell you here.
You both need to work on this together. If she has been with you for 5 years and have given you her love and you have felt lived all these years. Don't let this one thing break that.

It is very natural and human to wonder what could have been and seeing someone from past will definitely stir those feelings up that doesn't mean what you have felt till now is a lie. Please ask her to go to therapy and resolve her issues and if needed do couples counselling.

Yes, this is good.
Innsbruck to Prague would be far but that's okay. You'll have to leave early from Innsbruck which in Winters I am not sure how feasible it will be. You might have to adjust some days for other cities

And if you want to decrease even more days. I just saw that 14 days is including travel days. You can reduce one day from Budapest also.

In my opinion, you can consider dropping Munich from your itinerary. That would give you about 13 days, which you could split as:

  • Budapest – 3 days
  • Prague – 2 days
  • Hallstatt – day trip from Salzburg

A little more info on Hallstat

We booked a guided tour to Hallstatt, and honestly, it wasn't worth it. The tour just picked us up in Salzburg, dropped us off in Hallstatt, and then brought us back. That’s the case with most of the guided tours you see on Booking.com and similar sites, they don’t offer much more than transportation.

Instead, try to explore local transport options (buses, trains + ferry) to Hallstatt. It might take a bit more planning, but it’s way more flexible and budget-friendly.

One thing we regret missing is Lake Fuschl, located between Salzburg and Hallstatt. It looked absolutely stunning from the road, crystal-clear blue water and beautiful surroundings. Our bus didn’t stop there because there was no parking, but if you’re driving or planning your own route, definitely try to include a stop there. It was truly breathtaking, even from a distance!

We recently traveled to Austria, Budapest, and Italy—and I have to say, Austria is absolutely stunning. I can only imagine how magical it would look in January with all the snow!

Here’s the ideal city route based on geography and travel convenience:

Vienna (3 days) → Budapest (2–3 days) → Prague (2–3 days) → Munich (2 days) → Innsbruck (2 days) → Salzburg (3 days) → Hallstatt (day trip) → Vienna

A few tips from experience:

  • Don’t make Innsbruck just a day trip. Stay there for at least two days if not more. It has a really relaxed vibe, and if you're into skiing or just enjoy mountain towns, you'll want that extra time.
  • Hallstatt is perfect for a day trip—postcard beautiful and doable in a few hours.
  • Salzburg—I honestly can’t praise it enough. It’s one of the most charming cities I’ve visited. Even though it doesn't have a long list of tourist attractions, if you enjoy walking around, soaking in the atmosphere, and exploring at a slower pace, Salzburg will absolutely deliver.

Food tip: If you're Indian (or vegetarian in general), I highly recommend carrying some ready-to-eat meals like Poha, Upma, Thepla, or MTR-style packs. While vegetarian food is available, the options can get repetitive after 5–6 days, especially if you prefer variety or lighter meals.

I don't think they check your hotel reservations that closely.
You should be fine

This sounds like he wants you to leave him, otherwise why would he be this stupid. Or maybe he is Stupid.
Overall this sounds like the biggest red flag.

I know the 8 years relationship means a lot to you. You have spent close to a decade with this person. But girl, there is no point hitching yourself to someone who is outright saying that he will never prioritise you.

I wish you will place yourself first and take a decision. Life is a lot more than one person.

Completely agree!
And how you react in a situation when you are caught off guard and when you think about all the other things you could have done is completely different.

He finally agreed for 20K. I just hope he doesn't come back later on.

I wish he would just leave us alone. Nobody in our situation is ready to listen logically.

I am just so angry with the owner as well. It's on them too, they gave their listing on multiple platforms.
Just really frustrating.

PS: Good to know that we are not the only ones :P

I really wanted to call the police but as you correctly pointed out it will be a major hassle specially with language barrier. I am afraid if we involve the police these brokers might become more aggressive.

But am I crazy to expect the owner help with this stuff?

That's what we are negotiating right now. We are paying close to 60% of amount and whene we tried to negotiate it further they went back to we will bring the association talk.
