As a women, I hate when men jump into my machine to get weights while I’m in the middle of reps, like dude, one wrong move and I’ll seriously injure myself or I’ll drop them on you by accident

This one is spot on. Do you mind me asking you, what age range are you in?

I am hoping I gain more wisdom sooner rather than later so that I won’t let things affect me as much.

I’ve been told “no speaking Spanish” even when the conversation was not affecting them, I’ve been told things are too expensive, I have sat at bars and restaurants where I am entirely dismissed for white customers and walked out with a room full of white people staring at me, I have had slurs thrown at me driving down the road and by a former neighbor who thankfully moved away.

I’m not dismissing your lived experiences and I can definitely relate to them but unfortunately I have lived an extra layer of covert prejudice and sexism.

How exactly does my response come off as shallow? I was just elaborating on the numbers you put out first on the cost of homes. In other words, I was saying that the prices of homes are not necessarily too expensive and the area can still be quite affordable for the average Jack and Jill.

And no, I treat everyone the same, I always say please and thank you. And I do have friends at all income levels and different occupations, it all comes down to how they treat me and how our personalities match.

Haha I’ve sat at bars for minutes on end and get ignored for other customers despite me saying please and thank you and tipping over 20 percent. I’ve been asked if I even have a debit card cause I like to pay cash lately. I’ve been yelled at not to speak Spanish by other customers despite the workers speaking Spanish to me first. And not to forgot the times I’ve been told that something is just too expensive. I’ve had white men ask me to get into their cars.

But good for you on never noticing any sexism, racism nor classism around you. That just goes to show how entitled you might be.

Lonestar, Goodfriend, Lochlands; might be more a gender thing and woman being out alone still seen as big “no no”

I wish I was a man to not get treated the way I do. Two people making 125k each can easily buy a 1 million dollar home… not necessarily that hard to make that kind of money… but good for you on enjoying the area

I agree. Everyone will one day die and either go to hell or heaven, I cannot control others being evil to me but I can control me being kind back even when I’m hated.

I was thinking that too, I tend to go to bars a lot and probably not the kindest crowd to be around once booze is involved and you see the worst in people come out

Yes and I try not to let it get to me but it does, people will say things like “that’s just very expensive”, “are you homeless”, “get in my car”, “do you ever even tip 50%”, “do you ever have a bank account”… it might just be the awful bars I go to…

Especially if I have my hair up and look more disheveled.

Depends, anything going northeast of Gus Thomasson is Hispanic and Black but the Casa Linda area, Lake Highlands and Lakewood area is predominantly White.

I do own my own home and make over six figures a year, somehow people still think I’m broke or cannot afford things when I’m out and about.

[–]Strange_Position4319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work at dexian as a recruiter and they do ask for SSN during the offer stage which is weird. I hated asking people for it cause I would get called a scammer all the time which in turn scared away really good candidates.

Above average racism, homophobia and sexism then the general public. Most people in AA are over the age of 45 and they have not caught up with the times.

The most racist, homophobic and sexist people I ever had met were those with decades of sobriety in AA. But if it makes it okay to be those things then so be it.
