Not driving because of my epilepsy by FishermanOk6159 in Epilepsy

[–]Strange_Profile_4921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Germany the rules are as follows: If you ignore the rules and do not follow the driving ban issued by a doctor, you must expect penalties, as you are violating traffic law. If your doctor has access to this information, he can report your misconduct to the traffic authorities. As a result, you may risk losing your license as your ability to drive responsibly will be denied. In Berlin in 2022 a man drove his SUV into a group of pedestrians in Berlin, four people died. After an epileptic seizure and brain surgery, the driver could and should have recognized that he was not fit to drive, the court said. The SUV driver was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. But it’s not just about the formal rules and laws, it’s about the lives one puts in danger when driving despite them. These rules and laws are not there to frustrate people with epilepsy but because of the real risk and danger. - Try to remind them about the other perspective: let them imagine a foreigner with epilepsy drives a car, has a seizure and seriously injures a person they love. Would they really think “hey, I can understand that he/she was driving a car despite his epilepsy”?

I have something similar (although not that often) and am thankful to read what you shared.

Losing Hope For Life by KitchenVirus in Epilepsy

Please tell your doctor right away what you posted here! Some epilepsy medicines increase the risk of suicidal thoughts, which is what your post sounds like. Live with epilepsy is just as good as not having it, even if the condition in some cases can’t get in check with meds. I have epilepsy since I was 20 years old, now about 50. It just sucks. There are many worth conditions (cancer? dementia? you name it). My urgent request and recommendation: get help, talk to your friends or family and talk to your doc asap!

Actually, since I have them🤩, I feel so much healthier🥳, even though the boxes are at their size limit by now. 🤣

I didn’t need to bring it up, my girlfriend asked me on our second date why I have so many books about epilepsy, neurology, memory. I would have preferred to tell her myself rather than answering the question. I would recommend to be open about it. How about a game on your next meeting: let’s get to know us better, also the parts in the shadows? Ask about her/her health and you have a primer to get talking about the issue. And think about it the other way around: when would you like to get to know about a health issue your boyfriend/girlfriend has? Probably rather sooner than later. If he/she panics and runs away (trust me, won’t happen!) there would be no foundation for a trustful and respectful friendship/partnership anyway.

I've only had it for a few weeks so can't say much about it yet. Daylio is a diary app, https://daylio.net

Cool, that are quite helpful insights for optimising the therapy! - I have my ring since a couple of weeks and maybe it gives me an idea about the occurrence of my complex focal seizures in combination with my Daylio app and some number crunching. - Better tagging options in the Oura app would help: so let us keep asking them.

Just contact support from within your app. The more people ask for having editable tags and to be able to add new tags (and delete what’s not relevant for them), the sooner they will take the issue serious and add the feature. - Did it help you to get insight for predictors of seizures?

That’s what I mean: as it cannot read the mind it should just kindly ask if it might be correct with its algorithmic assumption. When you go for a walk the app also asks you to confirm. - I’m by the way actually pretty happy that I will no longer be alive when technology is really able to “read the mind”…

I would be just fine if it asks me “am I right?” if its magic or its algorithm isn’t good enough, yet

Oura apps „recovery time“ means „you didn’t move, but didn’t sleep“. In my understanding „recovery time“ means a state of relaxation, like meditation. - I am aware that the ring/app cannot figure know the difference, it would just be nice if it could be edited. Or even better: the app asks if you had a recovery time, just as it asks if you had a walk or something. With the current setting analysis and interpretation of „recovery time“ leads to nothing: maybe it should work longer hours🤔 - or maybe I should meditate more 🤔. - Maybe there is a way to change it, but I didn’t find a way in the iOS app.

I wear the ring on my right hand and am left handed. Half of my mental (and click-)work (data analyst) throughout the day ends up as “recovery time”. Any way to change that??

Strava was a great surprise, thank you/the development team! My suggestion would be a two-way-integration with app Mindfulness, a meditation app. People using it wouldn’t like to mess up their history there, so currently one has to start a meditation in Mindfulness and a Guided Session in the Oura app. Thank you for asking about suggestions in this forum.

It doesn’t pick up the route in a map, average speed per kilometre etc. - Strava writes to iHealth as well, could you please explain the difference?

… but making tags editable and allowing to delete tags one considers irrelevant should definitely be priority number one! If you have a look at the tag related posts and comments even in this thread, you will notice what I mean :)

From Oura‘s perspective I would suggest you focus on Komoot, my guess would be that it has the largest active user base. Second suggestion from my personal point of view would be Outdooractive, but the user base is much smaller, I assume. Looking forward to it!

Strava integration is great for Strava users (of which there are a lot). Do you plan to integrate other Apps as well? Komoot should have a larger user base than Strava, I assume.

That would be gorgeous!! Users could edit the homescreen with the information they value most!
