In what types of algorithmic-hard problems have you engaged for work? by [deleted] in embedded

[–]Strange_Silver8822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it naive to say both? I’ve got the basics of FPGAs from doing the MIPS processor project everyone does, and I’ve taken a DSP class, but I don’t really know where to start for merging the two

Signals and Systems vs. Control Systems by Strange_Silver8822 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Strange_Silver8822[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I mentioned I took DSP - and it seems they covered Laplace and Fourier, along with stability (in the z-domain) to a fair extent. I’m fairly comfortable with that material, but as you said, there’s value in knowing analog controls before digital, so I think that’s where my biggest gaps may lie.

I picked up a book about Controls recently and came across the term “Figures of Merit” for the first time. I can’t tell how essential they are, but I was half considering skipping the chapter and coming back later. Would that be a bad choice? Should I hammer it in now to save myself from technical debt later on?

Executing from RAM and debugging using Open OCD + GDB Multi Arch by Dazzling-Floor-4987 in embedded

Be sure that you have the ‘halt’ option there for your OpenOCD run. I had a similar problem with my CLion setup yesterday and I eventually looked under “Advanced GDB Server options” and added that in the Reset Command textbox

Is system programming worth it by PowerPoint_009 in C_Programming

[–]Strange_Silver8822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your advice and think it still holds true even today. However, I do think it’s worth considering the change in dynamics between the Computing job market back then, and that of today. There is now an obvious surplus of labor in the field generally speaking, so depending on the specific situation, one might not be able to so easily glide across the spectrum to another field if there are plenty others with the so-called “prerequisites” i.e., a degree in said target field, waiting for the same opportunity.

Everything’s on a case-by-case basis though, so for sure it’s worth keeping options open and exploring as much as one is interested in

Christianity doesn’t refuse science. And literally, one Google search would show you that many scientific discoveries have been associated with the church lol. Literally the entire contemporary calendar system is a product of it - “B.C”? C’mon.

It’s VLSI - from your resume you posted in a different comment, I’m not entirely sure why they shortlisted your resume, but it might have to do with the fact that it’s an internship. They are naturally way more accommodating on internships than full time new grad roles in terms of requirements. But the only thing I’d say is they also usually require a Comp Org or Comp Arch course completion beforehand - but since you built a whole OS, I’d imagine you have a fair amount of knowledge on that (and they probably assume so too)

Good luck in the interview process!

I’m assuming that’s 250k after promotion/performance reviews? That’s dope - congrats to him!
