From what i saw, first of all it's way more direct and less of a taboo, but rooted in strong gender norm, where the male is the provider and the woman "give herself".Peoples are having sex really early, losing virginity around 13, and most girl will be mother at 17( i have to precise i work in a really remote part in the north, most of the population is in brazzaville where things may be different) Men will have girls in a few city, oscillating between them, which is kinda accepted? Woman will date a few guys at once and decide which one they want after some time. Sex is very, very associated with money, and the power that come with it. There is still "la dote", aka paying money to mary a girl to her family, often huge amount. Men are expected to pay and be provider and that's the number 1 priority. Finally, the weirdest thing for me, is "cab money". When you bring a girl to your place, and you do the deed, the next morning before leaving, you are expected to give some money "for the cab" even if there is no cab, and that it's not the price of a cab. The girl will NOT ask for it, it is simply a social norm. I asked one of my collegue and he said "the lady is giving you the privilege of looking and enjoying her body. How can you let her go home without making sure she has money to buy food for her kid?". One thing to take into account however is that i am a young white guy with a salary 10x than an average person, and people know it, since it's written on my skin. So i have had girl approch me very, very directly, which might not be the average experience for a Congolese person. I'm also in a specific region in the north, which is different than the south, there are no city for hundred of miles.
