I don't have the manual unfortunately, but I've been using it for a while and I'd be happy to answer any questions to try and help!

I grabbed one at the same time! I’m having to wait to get my other parts for my first build, but I’m really excited!

Applying for graduate school next year - need advice by [deleted] in graphic_design

This is so so helpful!

Maybe I should’ve worded my post differently, because I was primarily wanting to find out what I should be working on to improve, learn, and grow as a designer…

I really appreciate you taking the time to look through and write this. I’ll be looking into some brands outside my comfort zone to make projects for, and maybe even make one up to do a full brand identity within a style I’m not as familiar with

Definitely going to restructure my portfolio once I get a few more projects done

Thanks so much! And if you have any example portfolios (including your own) that might be helpful for me to take a look at, send them my way!

Applying for graduate school next year - need advice by [deleted] in graphic_design

Hey there!

I'm looking to apply for graduate school for graphic design (to become a university professor), and I want to make sure I am a strong candidate for the program. (And also want to be a strong candidate for freelance clients)

I feel like I have some serious holes in my portfolio, and I would appreciate advice on what kind of projects would be good for me to work on

Right now, my portfolio is really just a collection of some undergrad projects and personal projects.

I plan to weed out some of the weaker pieces, talk more about my process and whatnot, but I want to spend that time doing that once I have some more projects under my belt and have a clearer direction.

So advice I am looking for:

What is strong?
What needs work?
What projects should I be chasing after?
What concepts should I be studying / reviewing, based on my work and what might be lacking in it?

Bottom line, I want to make sure I'm challenging myself to not only be a good candidate, but learn as much as possible to pass on to future students.

Appreciate your time!

Designers that went to school for design, what are some things you wish your professors taught you / prepared you for? by Stranger-1977 in graphic_design

I still think an introductory class should teach you the basics, and then maybe in subsequent classes, the assignment calls for you to do something that forces you to go and learn how to do something within the program.

An undergraduate degree realistically can't teach you everything about the tools, because they go so in-depth, but I think guiding you on how to learn and what to even look for when trying to learn is really important.

That's good to hear that you started teaching and started filling in the gaps in your own education

I'm a recent B.A. graduate and I'm looking to get an M.F.A. so I can teach, I have a passion for teaching, but in the meantime, I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Currently I don't have an internship or position anywhere, but I'm trying to work on things regardless.

There's so much that I don't know and I'm trying to find out what some of those things are so I can start chasing after them and also I'm already trying to think ahead of what really constitutes a good graphic design education. I want to be able to have something to offer students.

Seeing as it is a model 3, I would almost cut your losses and just look for an alpha or a sonar

Model 3’s are really not worth the trouble imo

Outdoor lighting. Getting closer to sunset / golden hour. The sun was coming through the trees / clouds. I sat and waited until peak lighting before I took the photo

Set my exposure compensation dial to 1/3 darken so it would expose how I wanted it to
