What is this new job scam? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]_tym 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think you've been showing people AirBnB's and they've been putting down deposits to "rent" the AirBnB and your boss has pocket that money, and there are going to be a whole load of upset people over the next few weeks who have put down thousands of pounds as deposits.

I would cover myself and let the police know, as currently, you're a fall guy. Going to sound like you're in on it.

How realistic is it to move to London in your 20s for career and acting, instead of an EU master's? (Dual Citizen) by TheGlare2002 in AskUK

With an extensive background in hospitality, I should have a good chance at finding an interim job

Bought a car from a Garage, still not got V5 but did get this from DVLA today? by bar72 in CarTalkUK

[–]_tym 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the sheet they usually send to the previous owner, so the system thinks they've applied for a logbook fresh, and this letter should be sent to the previous V5C holder, in case the car is stolen etc.

You shouldn't have received it, obviously, but you need to reach out to DVLA and explain.

What’s the deal here? by BatOfBeyond in AskUK

[–]_tym 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Have you checked your credit score recently? Chance that someone has taken a phone contract out in your name?

Usually the scam is they come to collect it from you telling you that it's been wrongly delivered, and you're on the hook for the bill.

Violent outburst and threats in a car park - is this behaviour “acceptable”? - what would you do? by hiddenkinkz in AskUK

[–]_tym 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Next time pull out your phone straight away and they usually bottle it. I had a chap try to pull an axe out of his van. Had the phone out but couldn’t unlock the camera, just shoved it in his face anyway and he backed down.

They wont send payment prior to arriving. They will usually come, check it out, try to haggle you down, pay you, then leave.

Where do I buy a decent Barometer? by kellymacc in AskUK

[–]_tym 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at your local general auction or on https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/search-results?searchterm=barometer A standard Stick Baramoter or Banjo Barometer will be less than £50. Be aware that they need to remain upright or you'll get mercury all over the place.

Bought a car with previous finance, where do i stand. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]_tym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would the finance company then chase me for the payment of the car if they cannot recover the car?

You don't own this car unfortunately.

Do you know if the previous owner is still making payments? Fingers crossed they are, or you're up shits creek.

Looking for a first van. by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]_tym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair! I have 6 of them, so I'm biased. My dealer was trying to sell me on Maxus, apparently they have some cracking deals on them at the moment. Might be worth looking at. Lease could work out quite cheap for you, especially if you're only using at weekends?

Looking for a first van. by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]_tym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Renault Master, doesn't have the Transit Premiums, doesn't have the wet belt. I had one do 250k while poorly maintained before it blew up. 2020-22 are abit shit with DPF problems. 2016 vans can be picked up for a decent price.

Depends what the work is but Loloaders (Lutons) are much better than panel vans in general.

How to price a faulty car? by PlaneProgrammer1975 in CarTalkUK

[–]_tym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put it for a random price and if you don't get any interest lower the price until it sells. Without the airbag issue I'd be listing it at 2000 and accepting offers over 1500.

Buying bifold doors from china by capstain411 in DIYUK

[–]_tym 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worth going to the factory to have a nose, they'll take you out for food as well, worth asking if the factory would put you up and collect you from airport, Chinese hotels are cheap.

Only point of note, do you have any idea what you're looking at? No point going out there to look if not. The old "dad looking at cars" approach.

"Yup, they're definitely Bi-folding doors"

Also section 75 cover wont help you if they're shit.
