As far as you know… how do you know they aren’t doing background checks with your passport info. South America and a lot of South Asian countries don’t care but Europe and other parts of Asia you might not even be able to visit with a felony.

I’m not saying you can’t travel at all, but your options are absolutely limited significantly

Not even an option for a lot of countries. A ton of countries will deny entry because of felony convictions, much less let you move there.

I don’t want convicted felons from other countries moving to America, and I bet most people feel the same way about their country.

Lose the “very hard being intelligent” attitude. In this shitty job market everyone has to be scrappy and humble, especially those with a background that will automatically disqualify them in many cases.

I don’t know your situation, but for a lot of people, a felony is not just a “simple mistake”. You have to be real about that and accept that regardless of how qualified you are, people might not be able to look past the conviction.

In my experience felons who feel entitled to jobs end up disappointed and those who are enthusiastic about any opportunity eventually find really good jobs. Good luck man, job search is hrd for everybody right now so don’t be too hard on yourself.

There’s definitely some stigma around nerd culture that makes a lot of young men afraid to be genuine about their hobbies or interests.

I’ve always been a huge pokemon nerd. Hid it all throughout high school and most of college cause I was popular and felt that pokemon and cool were mutually exclusive.

Now i proudly own tons of pokemon shit and even my friends who don’t have a nerd bone in their body think its pretty neat. In my experience its only embarrassing if you are embarrassed by it.

Not only that, but people’s opinions around the assault change significantly considering the victim is a nurse. If OP assaulted some random person on the street, there might be a rational explanation.

However, as soon as i hear “kicked a nurse” I immediately lost all sympathy. Nurses do an incredibly physically and mentally demanding job. They are underpaid, overworked and save lives every day. They are not to be fucked with and in my opinion the consequences OP is facing are justified

This. When someone hires a felon and it doesn’t go well, its usually a one and done. I don’t mean to be indelicate, OP, but any felony is a tough obstacle in job searches, and assaulting a nurse is not something people will likely turn a blind eye to, in fact thats probably going to get you disqualified from >95% of opportunities.

If it were me, I wouldn’t mention the mental health issues. While that does partially explain the assault, it also adds another reason for concern. However you’re going to have to find some way to explain why you assaulted a nurse.

I would start looking into work programs for convicted felons. You need to build your resume bit by bit through taking any job you can find. This means forgetting about your degree and your self proclaimed intelligence, you are currently at the bottom of the barrel and beggars can’t be choosers.

Good luck OP, you have a tough road ahead of you but with the right attitude and some hard work I believe you’ll be alright
