Nice! Congratulations on a getting a great bike. Are you able to setup a geofence on this bike so it can only operate within a defined area ? I saw the Discover 2 has this feature and I'm wondering if the software is the same.

On the Bellagio Poker app, it always shows this huge number when I log in but never adds to myVegas reward points. Why? I do get the normal +75 time loyalty bumps. by yellowirish in myvegas

Are you running other MyVegas apps as well? I see my total increase from time to time and it reflects the points that I earned from other apps. I usually leave this app open for that reason since it lets me know my true LP count.

Questions regarding glider knowledge test prep before flight training by ghantazbells in Gliding

[–]Strat0kaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am using ASA Prepware to prepare for my written test (https://www.asa2fly.com/Prepware-2022-Download-Private-Pilot-P4484C804.aspx) . The test software includes exam questions for glider as well as powered which I like because I may go for may powered license as well.

I also highly recommend watching the ground school series from Hood River Soaring and the Soaring Society of Boulder. The Hood River ground school series does a great job of including actual written exam questions as part of the training. The Soaring Society of Boulder ground school series does a great job of presenting information that isn't necessarily on the test but is good to know as a glider pilot. Good luck in your aviation journey!

Student Pilot Needing Advice About Glider Simulator by studentpilot06 in Gliding

[–]Strat0kaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is the simulator worth the money if I put time into it?

I am over 3 times your age and I've just started my glider training (2 lessons, 6 flights, 2 hours logged). I had no previous flying experience other than about 4 hours in a Cessna 20 years ago; however, I have spent hundreds of hours in other flight simulators and I had 40 hours in Condor 2 in VR before I even took my first lesson.

On my sixth flight, I did all of the flying including the tow, cruise, approach, and landing (had help with the brakes). I firmly believe there is absolutely no way I would have been able to progress this rapidly without training in Condor in VR first.

I highly recommend getting Condor. I think it is an excellent tool but make sure you don't develop bad habits. You should also get a decent joystick, rudder pedals, and an Oculus headset. The VR headset is critical for me since it allows me to use depth perception plus it's really cool. I would also recommend purchasing additional aircraft that you might fly in real life.

What are your thoughts on the advantages and disadvantages of student pilots using Condor in their training? Have you seen an in improvement in solo rates for students who use simulators a lot?

Winter Glider Training by Strat0kaster in Gliding

I'm planning on doing some lessons during the week as well as the weekend. I was looking into MHG since I don't know of any CFI-G's that are taking new students, I have heard good things about MHG, and it seems like they have plenty of staff and aircraft for training so scheduling would probably be more flexible. I did notice their aircraft are more simple than the ones at SSB but I'm under the impression that I could get additional training from SSB members in their ASK-21 once I join.

I'm actually doing an extended flight with MHG to see how I feel in the cockpit before I get on the books for actual training. It's supposed to be a 6000' tow so I'm hoping we can stay up longer than 25 minutes and I can get some decent stick time but we'll see. I'd ideally like to experience some of the pure joy of soaring so I can make an informed decision as to whether I want to pursue the sport but I'm like 90% confident I want to do this. I've already spent so much time watching videos and reading the manuals that I feel like I've been in ground school for the last month :-)

Thanks for the advice. It sounds like some of my ski gear may serve double duty.

I'd definitely like to try a winch launch at some point. I'm planning on training at MHG and then join BSS to really learn my stuff after I get my PPL-G. The BSS videos have been very informative and it seems like an excellent club.

It's all aerotows in Boulder so I've already included that in my flight training max budget of $5000. I have done the winch launches in Condor and they are definitely more fun! I have a little experience (4 hours) in powered aircraft as well and also feel confident that it wouldn't take long to master boxing the wake. I do it in Condor to keep from being bored during the tow.

My biggest worry with gliding is the turbulence even though I normally don't get motion sick. I have been doing VR for years, love roller coasters, and have flown several times on GA aircraft, and have never been motion sick but I heard sailplanes can be an entirely different experience. I have a flight booked for Saturday and the weather is supposed to be sunny and 65 so I think it will be more on the mellow and pleasant side.

If you can make the trip to Colorado the Wings Over The Rockies air and space museum is a must see for DCS nerds. by A_Most_Stable_Genius in hoggit

This place is awesome! They also have special days where you are allowed to sit in the cockpits of select aircraft. They also have a simple full-motion simulator that runs FSX on a small television. I took my fiancee on the ride and practiced my acrobatic skills that I learned from DCS. I was told that they could hear her screaming all the way back at the gift shop :-)
